@SpeakerBoehner & These Republicans disrespect THIS President because he BLACK PERIOD,
How silly. Our President has been a very divisive leader because of hasty judgements, a commitment to class warfare and radical left wing policies PERIOD
Him being black has nothing to do with it. Frankly, I'm getting kind of tired of those old, worn out statements.
not silly at all... so-called loyal patriots care nothing about americans HC, Energy and Education... Divisive President, not. Try Nixon, Bush2, second god TP idol - Reagan. We are reliving pre-civil war highly polarized environment, almost over the same issues.
I totally agree Spooney35. Their bigotry and racism really shows clearly. They don't care about the American people. All they care about is themselves and their wealthy corporate buddies. Well, the laughs on them. Lawrence O'Donnel just had a segment with Allan Lichtman (The Keys to the Whitehouse) who says according to these "keys" President Obama will win re-election.
Uninformed, are you? It was a Republican President that made the hasty judgement to bomb Iraq, without any proof of WMDs, give tax cuts to the wealthiest, and started the jobs' downward slide with a free market policy that made huge profits for corporations, almost knocked out the middle class, while forgetting the poor -- all class warfare par excellence.
I agree with you Spooney35
Short of hearing the Republican presidential candidates were lining up to jump off a bridge into Vermont's flood waters, I could care less what any of them have to say. I think a debate of greedy, racist, hating Republicants is useless anyway and have no intention of watching any of their debates. Our President pushing a JOBS plan is way more important to me.
If politics is involved, then Obama should go on TV the night after the debate so he can show just how do nothing Republicants really are. Better to be able to rebutt all they had to say the night after, than to share the night. So because politically it would be better to wait a night, I think Obama chose the night for another reason - like 25 million people out of work!
Boehner has a proven track record of being the worst Speaker of the House in history. He wants to allow the debate so Republicants can repuke their useless soundbites again to the American public. Hopefully, some pundit will ask what they think of Cantor's statement about funding FEMA with other cuts when the East Coast is drowning. Might as well show their lack of caring for fellow Americans suffering once again like their lack of interest in JOBS.
@Ellen-4004328; how "silly" can you be?? "Hasty judgments"? It was Bush's "hasty judgment" that put us in Iraq on a lie; you sound foolish. If Obama did as he did in Lybia, y'all want to cry "hasty", when he tries to wait for a world consensus like Egypt, you say he's "running late on a statement". The man can't win with you haters.
@Bob-314823; As tired as you are of "those old, worn out statements", we are tired of you folks who always want to cry, "You all always pull the 'race card'!" when it's pointed out; *hint* we couldn't pull it if it wasn't still firmly in the deck (yes, even in 2011). NO OTHER PRESIDENT has had to jump through the kind of hoops Obama has just trying to 'get along'! Examples: 1) is Christian or Muslim? 2) does he have a valid AMERICAN birth certificate? 3) what is he doing having a "gangsta rapper" at a White House event? And those are just to name a few. It's really "tiresome" to us want to try to play so blind that you can't see this blatant racism, it's so transparent!
Cheryl I don't hate dear. Each of our Presidents serve at a time when they're needed. Our country needed Bush. He kicked butt in Iraq and helped open the mid east for peace. I think President Obama is doing the best he can to handle the fires in the mid east. He's been successful in keeping close to the Bush Doctrine. Im pretty sure you did a lot of hating during the Bush years, and hate doesn't really help matters. It's Obama's domestic policies that are so screwed up.
Kicked butt in Iraq? What are you doing for koolaid? 8 years later we are still there. Yes we destroyed their organized military swiftly and over threw their government with absolutely no clue what to do afterwards leaving a power vacuum that led to years of death and destruction. Kicked butt? Nuts. (WW2 reference, always liked that answer.)
His being black has a lot to do with it. The republicans never asked Clinton to prove he was born in America. They fight him tooth and nail over everything. They try to blame him for the problems that their own party causes, and I could go on.
Sorry, Ellen and Bob but Spoony35 is right as much as I'd hate to admit it. If you listen to any of the house members they speak on how much President Obama is hated by the GOP. Why do they hate him? As a person he has done nothing to them, and policy alone is know reason to hate. Disagree of course but why is the word hate even entering the equation? Because you have never had to endure or face racism does not mean it does not exist. When caucasions begin to face that racism still exists the sooner we will be able to deal with what is true. You can't speak to something you can not or will not face. Especially when you don't have to deal with that kind of hatred. I personally believe he has been shaken by it, and will not openly speak about it himself. But just by his demeanor you can see he is trying to rise above it because he never anticipated being treated so badly by those he had walked the halls of congress with. He's been called a liar twice by the GOP in public not behind closed doors. How many Presidents do you remember that ever happening to? NONE. When you lack respect for someone as they do they can't help themselves.
it's the color of his skin. no republican can be seen to be giving into obama on anything.
You just hate white people. This is no story. Obama made a request, Boehner suggested an alternative, Obama accepted. MSNBC sensationalized the story, idiots like you took the bait.
it's the color of his skin period. i'm black and i'm feeling it.
I am not black, but you would have to be blind and deaf not to know that the republicants have been raising the racist flag from the very beginning of Obama's presidency.
thank you i dont what else it takes for all of
thank you for seeing it...what else does it takes for all of AMERICA TO....
I am not black, but see the racism from boenher and his cronies everyday. What they seem to not understand, is that he is as much white as he is black. Either way it shouldnt matter. He has my vote. I would never vote for a repub.
I often ask people who are trashing Obama which part of him they hate - the white or the black. They usually just give me that goat look and call me a liberal.
Yes, I'm a liberal on some things, moderate on others and some things I'm more conservative than Repukes. My conservative side would end the wars and cut the Defense Budget because both cost us too much. My moderate side would require fairness in the tax code and force the elite to pay their fair share of taxes. And my liberal side would fund education and childhood programs with plenty of money so they would have every chance to grow up and be productive workers.
This was clearly no coincidence. Obama Administration should have thought this through more carefully. If Progressive heavy Dem party hadn't wasted so many years focused on Healthcare monster and making themselves enemy of business, a joint session probably wouldn't have been necessary.
Ms.Redleaf, if I remember both sides of the aisle voted to enter Iraq. WMD's may not have been found but that does not mean they did not exist. I'm thrilled President Obama has continued the important work of fighting terrorism around the world, thrilled with his increased use of drones to knock down these savages, and thrilled he ordered the killing of enemy number one. I'm quite sure one day when desperate, head in the sand Progressives stop trying to rewrite history about the incredible chance at freedom the Middle East now has in it's grasp, you'll thank President Bush. GW, unfortunately tried to please liberals with his policies and yes that hurt our economy, but Progressives and Democrats have as much responsibility forcing banks to lend to unreliable people and pretending the housing bubble wasn't there. They saw that train wreck and looked forward to blaming Republicans. Progressive laden Democrat party paid a heavy price for ignoring the jobs crisis, and they deserve it. I still support my President and hope he will follow reason and not the Progressive playbook
"Forcing banks to lend to unreliable people.." What total BS. It always amuses me when I read the right wing talking point that poor people caused the economic crisis. Yes, Ellen. Those irresponsible poor people with their refrigerators and indoor bathrooms. As if banksters and Wall Street were the victims of the poor. It's not the poor who made out like bandits. You have only to look at the numerous pie charts floating around the internet to see how much of the wealth of this nation is held by so few. And it ain't the poor. Why don't you go chat with people who write your talking points instead of polluting this site with your canned right wing talking points. It's getting old.
I support our President - but - his timing for a speech before congress was awful. The Republicans have a dog and pony show that night - scheduled well in advance. President Obama should have let them have their spotlight, then addressed the nation the next day. It would have taken away any arrows the Republicans might have had for his Jobs Plan.
His arrogance won't let him stay out of the spotlight.
BALONEY!! Jobs and the economy is in an emergency situation, and of much more importance than a Republifool "dog & pony" show! THEY'VE been the ones crying (and John Boehner with real tears, LOL), "Obama has no jobs plan", and "Obama needs to produce a jobs plan"; now he comes with one, they want to blithely say, "wait 'til tomorrow", than getting right to work on one. It's obviously a slap in the face...
The bottom line is OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, and his request to hold a joint session of Congress should be respected. PERIOD. The Republifools have shown from day one that they don't intend to cooperate with President Obama on ANYTHING (including those ideas/bills that THEY themselves started out supporting)! This just another instance; the "shot across the bow", letting him know what to expect when they report back to work.
If jobs and the economy were such an emergency, why wasn't our President focused on solutions when the crisis hit? Think about that for a minute. He all but dog cussed private industry and job creators for two years on top of the regulations he heaped on. He kept jobs out of the Gulf and continues today. Instead of getting angry about what's in the past, try to look at the good solutions each party has.
The Gulf is choking from the worst oil spill in our brief history. As a Gulf Coast resident, I say SCREW Big Oil and until BP pays out the remaining 80% of the promised restoration funds, I say SCREW AGAIN & AGAIN! Some of you Poster Children are absolutely CLUELESS! Let them come frackin' on YOUR back door, introduce toxins and dangerous levels of pressure and see how YOU feel about your precious landscape! Oh, and you'll get paid UPFRONT for your troubles. . .THEN, your house will either implode or blow up and/or your ground water will be forever toxic. Worry about yourself and LEAVE THE GOOD PEOPLE OF THE GULF OUT OF YOUR OPINES!
While we do have a major lack of jobs problem, we have an even more serious environmental one. However because of corporate driven, republican rhetoric people don't see this at the severity that it is. At the rate we are going this planet will no longer be suitable for human, and probably all life in less than 100 years. I don't care what other scientists say, this problem is much more serious than anyone will admit.
I have to say I agree,,,, This whole jobs thing isn't starting out on a good foot., is it.?? His constant pandering to anyone who doesn't like him doesn't make him look "Adult" to me.
I'm white and feeling it also!
I'm white and I agree. It's obvious disrespect for the President. I was once a Republican but no more. I'm ashamed that our govt. reps. have fallen so low. BTW, if there ever was ugliness, it's from the hateful speech Rush Limbaugh spits out.
Rush Limbaugh needs to take an overdose of the prescription medicine he's addicted to and make the world a better place
Face it, 21st century America is racist. 21st Century! Amazing. Sad.
Say a lie enough times and people will believe it is so.
Not everyone. Some have heard so many lies they don't believe anything any more.
PETE, We the People have a jobs/natural disaster/economy crisis. Some may be losing their very lives. We the People need to hear from our President like yesterday but our congress was on vacay for 5wks. NOw that they are back to their 3 day work wks We demand they work!
The Pres and the Dems have had almost 3 years to put forth a plan. Why have we not heard from them before now?
YEah right Bob, there were plans put out in the house, watered down, and yet each time they began to address it was another bunch of fear mongering and stirring from the GOTP. Diversion all the way. The DEMS Never had a super majority EVERY thing was filibustered and promoted as unamerican, you saw it too. Remember? Its all the same act.
But I do agree that the DEMS should have called their tactics out as loudly as the GOP presented them. We will just agree to disagree now, until the next election.
Hey Bob...I suppose the republicans were doing everything they could to create jobs while they were busy blaming the current administration for all the problems THEY have caused?
Another Washington pissing contest. There's a shock. For Congress to decline to allow a POTUS to address a joint session when asked to do so would be an unprecedented, flagrant act of discourtesy, but the Republicans kicked that concept to the curb years ago. In fairness, however, there's no way Obama didn't know their so-called "debate" was scheduled that same night, so he's basically stuck his jaw out and dared them to take a swing at him. Extremely childish behavior on both sides, IMHO.
If Bush had pulled a stunt like this in 2003, what do you think the Dems would have said?
It is being reported by several that the speaker already agreed in private to the date and them publicly used the letter to embarrass the President. Boehner obviously didn't realize the date was same as debate.
Speaker was notified in private first and agreed to it.
Reported by who? The liberal press, like MSNBC?
If the Fairness Doctrine were still in tact, there would be no Liberal Press.
I'm 65 and have followed politics since President Eisenhower was elected and I've never seen such total disrespect for potus. I predict a total remodeling of President Obamas office because the room is not pure anymore since President Obama has occupied it.
Hey Roland, are you sayingthat the office "WAS PURE" with the likes of the "WHITE TRASH" Richard Nixson, Ronald Reagan, Papa & Baby Bush, Lyndon B. Johnson....O'yes, can't forget, Bubba- William Clinton......and this is what you call "PURE" !!!! Yeah right.......
Clearly yet another Washington pissing contest. For Congress to decline to allow a sitting president to address a joint session when requested to do so would be an unprecedented, flagrant act of discourtesy, but the Republicans kicked that concept to the curb some time ago. On the other hand, in fairness, there's no way Obama didn't know that was the night their so-called "debate" is scheduled, so he's basically stuck his jaw out and dared them to take a swing. It's extremely petulant, childish behavior on both sides.
Divisive? Hogwash! (Oh, by the way, there is class warfare - against the poor and middle class)
This is not a color issue. Its is a PARTY issue. These men & women have absolutely no conscience. He is OUR PRESIDENT weather they like it or not. He should be allowed the floor when he asks for it and the dog and pony show will still go on. GGGrrrrr
Ellen
You must have some really good health care coverage. But sadly there people that do not have that luxury of being able to afford health care let alone going to see a doctor. Also most people if you go with private insurance can not get coverage if they have a preexisting health issue. I know because I am one of those that do have preexisting health issues and I can't get health insurance. Did you know that I a person gets ill and they have to be out of work they can lose their job? That is what Obama is trying to stop. He is trying to make it fair for everyone and not those that can afford to spend a couple of nights in the hospital and not lose their jobs.
Actually Chris, I have no healthcare insurance I pay privately and pray for good health. If i had paid for health insurance over the years, I couldn't have made it. I hope we can find a way to keep many of the good parts of Obamacare. I totally agree health insurance is a huge problem, but forcing all Americans to buy insurance simply because we live and breathe is outrageous and un American and possibly unconstitutional. If President Obama had focused on solutions and good ideas from reasonable Republicans, instead of greedy Progressives his party might have avoided unprecedented losses in 2010. Just one of the many unintended consequences of a 2000 plus page nightmare of a bill that Speaker Pelosi said we needed to pass to see what's in it. They are utterly absurd and interested only in growing government and the welfare state.
The Health care issue is not going to get decided soon. Not a big enough mess yet to overcome the money interest. And I am not dissing the money interest at all. There are more then legitimate concerns about how any health care reform will play out. This is people's lively hoods and lives at stake. Whatever the final answer is, it will not be pretty.
How long till we hit 100 million Americans without health insurance who use the emergency room as their primary health care and that burden falls on the system? I just picked that number, but there will be a breaking point.
All I can say is there will be no "fair" way to resolve it. Decisions forced by necessity are always messy.
@Ellen
You know...you really need to slow down before you begin to type this stuff. The solutions and "good ideas from reasonable Republicans" that you're mentioning here included the mandate that was added to the healthcare legislation. It was not a progressive idea...it was, like so many other tidbits in initiatives by this administration and the Dems, originally a Republican concept. Back during the Clinton administration, Individual mandates were one of the sticking points in negotiations with Republicans. The courts have struck down the individual mandate within the last couple of weeks and actually...it's been a hilarious ride with the current GOP members of Congress. The 2010 elections were what they were, even based in untruths that the people in states like Wisconsin didn't fully recognize. I blame that on Dems as well as the GOP. It's something that all of us, even you will have to suffer through and learn from...until 2012.
Now, shall we go on to the prescription drug bill and tax cut that was passed in the middle of the night during the last administration? Quit being a patsy and find these things out for yourself. Good luck to you, because I do believe you deserve more.
The GOP has moved this debate THREE times already. Looks, to me, like THEY are the ones who are attempting to upstage the president. [Insert profanity and name-calling here]

I'm not that sure about the politics - I need to learn a little more about it. But as an Obama supporter I have to say that I don't CARE if his speech is at the same time as the debate because I wouldn't be watching the debate in a million years.
BUT - if Bush had done this while Obama was debating, I'd have been furious and accused him of trying to upstage the debate.
I'm surprised at it frankly, so there must be a lot I don't know about it.
It`s time the President get tough with the GOP, if it mean calling out Mr. Boehner and the rest of the GOP to the back of the White House and settle this BS of who`s in charge.
It`s time the President take Mr. Boehner and the rest of the GOP out back of the White House and show them who is the President and the Leader of this country and this BS will stop.
