Speaking at an event in New York today, former President Bill Clinton said he "got tickled by watching Governor Perry announce" his candidacy. He joked, "He's a good looking rascal."
Clinton pointed out the irony of Perry running for the nation's highest public office while railing against the feds on his tea party platform to downsize government.
"He's saying 'Oh, I'm going to Washington to make sure that the federal government stays as far away from you as possible — while I ride on Air Force One and that Marine One helicopter and go to Camp David and travel around the world and have a good time.' I mean, this is crazy."
We'll take a closer look at Perry's record tonight on the show with Last Word guest host Chris Hayes.

Is Lawrence back??? Love Chris Hayes but Lawrence, yours is the show I wait for every night.
Just read your tweet. I am so sorry to hear about your mother. May you find Peace.
OMG, not another Texan who knows how to cheer, no idea about governing. We will all be in the pits while he rides herd over us and takes away our mainstream of life. This man talks the good talk, but I have a sister who lives in Texas and she thought GW did Texas bad, he was good compared to this guy. Is this what we as Americans want? I sure do hope not. Another FAKE Christian, lies thru his teeth, and will drag this country farther into the ditch. Hang on Folks this is going to get ugly. PAY ATTENTION.
After the Bush ordeal at least 50% of the poplation is so broke that's the only thing they can pay is ATTENTION. Now thhe trick is too get them to the ballot box
Texas, the cloning capitol of the world,if you get my drift.
he could be george w. bush's twin/clone.
Rick Perry -- $18,000,000,000 Texas deficit this year. Wha...?, don't spend all the money? Huh?!
Damn, but I like Bill Clinton. He's Robert Reich, with height.
Now that's a badge of honor. A tall, angry America hater.
Thank you, Bill!! I forgot what sanity sounded like. Obama is sane but does not seem to express his opinions any more.
No, it's not like King Obuma gives daily teleprompted lectures or anything.
A lib-fest. Just when you thought it couldn't get any uglier.
This is msnbc.
To stupidhumanetwork: I agree. Damn, I can't help myself, I still like Clinton. And he's doing humanitarian work, amongst other things, which I do not see George Bush Junior doing. Ah-hem...
he's cleaning up after his dog.
My condolences on the loss of your Mom Lawrence. God Bless!!!
OMG! I didn't think it could get any worse but four more years of what we have now will be worse than Jimmy Carter. I'm not sure if I want any of them, but I would take anyone over what we have now. Which is BHO, a FAKE Christian or FAKE Muslim? If BHO is not lying through his teeth, he is sure lying out his.... To get further into the proverbial ditch we'll need a back-hoe. It's already ugly, or haven't you been PAYING ATTENTION!!
If the question was asked, were you better off under either Carter or Clinton compared to Bush, I think one star and nmbg woould be surprised with the answer but now these two twerps thinks Obama should have reversed in two years withoiout help from Congress what it took Bush 7 years to do.
The unemployment rate is high because of failed policies. It's not the Republicans that are at fault. Obama had complete control, much like a dictatorship, from the first day he was in office having complete control of both houses, making the Republicans insignificant in decisions made by the White House. The Democrats had control of Congress since 2006 and complete control of both houses by 2007. George Bush was insignificant as a president, not only because he just wasn't a good president in his policies, but the country was challenged by the Democrat Congress starting 2006 and both houses made the rules in 2007 with the Democrat majority awarded to them. Holding majority of both houses in 2007 gave the Democrats the ability to do whatever they wanted until the Republicans took the House January 1, 2011 and gained a little power, but not enough to have the final decision to make the policies of this country. It's now August 2011. The Republicans have a little power since January 2011 with Congress majority, Senate majority controlled by Democrats and White House controlled by a Democrat president. Comparing this to a poker hand, the Democrats had one ace during 2006 / Republicans had two aces. During 2007 the Democrats held two aces / Republicans held one ace. Obama was elected and gave the Democrats 3 aces / Republican zero aces. Up until January 2011 the Republicans were insignificant in policy decisions and then they obtained one ace / Democrats two aces. Democrats still run the show. So, we can't blame the Republicans for the failed policies of the Democrats, since the Republicans had no real power to control the government since 2006 and 2007.. They could scream, jump up and down or whatever they decided to do, but it was the Democrats that had the final say in policy decisions. Remember when Congress was taken from the Democrats during the last election. That was the people speaking out loudly, "We're tired of these failed policies". Are things better for you now than they were in 2005? Well, you can't blame the Republicans, because the Democrats have had control of the policies of this government totally since 2007 up until January 2011. This is a shortcut, much like CPR. You can't stop. You have to hope and pray that the liberals get it. I mean it's the truth, history can't deny it.
i am sorry, sixpick, if you think i am picking on you. but your whitewashed analogy above is sickening.
did you live in this country when President Obama first took office? during the first 6 years of W. bush's dictatorship, did you also consider that for what it was, a dictatorship?
listen the republicans have not been insignificant in their obstructionist role in congress. i just can't believe that (you) people don't see this. as grover norquist has said, he is making it impossible for a democratic president to govern.
i just love your one sided view that the republicans are not responsible for the economy. the republican party has used the FILIBUSTER as a way to stop this president from doing anything. the first two years of President Obama's presidency should be called "filibustered by the republicans". don't tell me the republicans were insignificant when they stoop to dirty tricks. i just love your white washed version of how President Obama's "dictatorship" and the democratic control of congress are at fault in all of this.
are you honestly saying that bush's iraqi war and tax cuts for the rich had absolutely nothing to do with how we got where we are today? two wars, a prescription drug program all NOT paid for. you are telling us that none of that added to the debt? you think it took only 4 years to get to this mess? you think that as soon as president Obama took office, that things suddenly fell apart?
you know what i think? you are a plant here from fox news. a bagger republican trying to sound reasonable by giving w. bush a little of the blame, but basically blaming democrats for everything.
you are telling us your version of the truth, as you see it. fortunately you are not the only blogger here, because most of us do not see things the way you are spinning it.
thank god the republicans do not have ALL the power. their stupid pledges and their anger about a (black) democratic president have motivated them enough.
I agree with you, Johnny.
Dear Lawrence, please accept our sincerest sympathies at the loss of your mother.
After listening and watching Republicans in Iowa, I think I've figured out how the GOP plans to get around increased Medicare costs. Just feed Americans the kind of food they were hawking at the Fair, and eradicate all efforts to regulate corporate pollution of our planet...why, all the elderly will die off quickly and our children and others will be so poisoned and toxified, they'll never reach retirement age!!! How creative. And since Gays will also be affected, Fundamentalist concern about that issue will be resolved, as well. The GOP base is levitating with excitement, which will ast until the Tea Party sheeple begin to realize that they will be victims, too.
