Former Baptist pastor/Arkansas governor/Republican presidential candidate-turned-FOX News host/web entrepreneur/children's video producer Mike Huckabee has a new release out as part of his Learn Our History DVD collection for kids. This latest cartoon teaches young kids about 9/11.
No. You didn't misread that. This is a preview of a new cartoon (available as a DVD or online stream) for kids from Learn Our History, a company co-founded by Huckabee that makes questionably accurate historical educational videos for kids, about 9/11 (just in time for the 10-year memorial).
I'm going to stop right there, except to say Lawrence is going to talk a little more about this in the Rewrite on tonight's edition of The Last Word.

Somebody had to do it...
But it makes 10 years feel pretty short....
and glorifies somebody that kinda ignored Afghanistan and admitted it (don't even mention the other guy).... ask the soldiers about it...
On the show tonight there was a clip of Huckabee explaining why he wanted to make the 9/11 cartoon. He basically said that kids don't know history anymore. I agree. That is because money being taken away from education is causing us to cut history classes. Why history? Because it isn't covered by a standardized No Child Left Behind test, so it is less of a priority to teach. Instead of making shabby cartoons, lets try properly funding our schools, including our history and civics classes, so that students can learn about actual history.
Huckabee is the worst kind of slime, he spreads lies and hate, while pretending to be a Godly person, he is only in it for himself. And I get sick to death every night when the "Obamacare" commercial comes on...why does MSNBC run this hateful thing?
Huckabee makes me feel ashamed to call myself an American! But since I'm not going anywhere, I suggest that HE go somewhere....maybe back under the rock from which he just crawled.
Actually, pointing out that the attack was done for the sake of Islam is very important. If Columbus did his work for the sake of Christianity, then of course that is important... children should be explicitly told that belief in mythology is wrong, and especially that belief in such a horrible mythology as Islam is wrong.
-the video is perverted by conservative tribalism, sure, but pointing out the primary role of Islamic mythology in 9/11 is not taboo; this tendency to believe it's taboo to critique evidence-free belief in horrible fiction stories is bad & it's a shame O'Donnell has been infected.
From what I've seen, this is a cartoonish oversimplification of the events of 9/11. I guess I shouldn't expect more. It is an actual cartoon. Sadly, though, this is supposed to be educational... sigh.
I dont expect less from the pastor but I am really upset about Adrianna Huffington. Her constant bashing of the president since shortly after he was elected (it almost seems personal) I feel has caused alot of damage and assisted in getting the current bunch of arch conservatives in office.
she basically says the president has done nothing, even though there is a long list of accomplishments. I as a RN for one regard getting rid of pre-existing conditions in healthcare as one of the top achievements of all time. i hate the debt ceiling deal but what is someone supposed to do ,let the world economy go under; and you know this current crop of extremists would have let it happen. It is bad enough they seem to be ruining the country without the progressive side laying the groundwork so that more of these nuts are in office maybe even the presidency. I am not saying no one should say anything about the pres but she never has a good thing to say about Obama and its been going on for a long time. Anne O'Neil
I totally agree. I changed the channel after just a couple of minutes of listening to her arrogance. When I was sure her segment was through, it was back to Lawrence. I also think the Huffington Post with it's overblown headlines has definitely jumped the shark. Glad I'm not the only one who has had enough with her constant criticism - which contributes nothing to the national conversation.
Well, thenks to some members of congress, Obama has done nothing, and now those same congressmen are trying to point out the lack of accomplishment while ignoring the fact they caused it rather than Obama.
anne, i agree, i never listen to arianna anymore. i am a registered nurse also, and getting rid of the pre-existing condition in regard to health insurance is one of the best achievements. i also heard bill oreilly complaining about birth control for women along with breast exams that will now be free for women. you probably saw this also, a republican was complaining about how having free birth control was going to cut down on population growth. he said that only 2.5 children were being produced per woman.
in biblical days women were thought of as cattle, nothing more. they were there to have children for their "husband", and they had many wives. this republicans comments are very reminiscent of the days when women were kept at home, barefoot and pregnant. he sounded very nostalgic for those days.
viagra is covered by insurance, but birth control pills are not. i find that unbelievably unfair, but not surprising, since it is still a white mans hypocritical world.
Just watched the huckabee history cartoon. Huckabee forgot to include the part where Obama caught Osama
But he DID include a picture of Sadaam Hussein, insinuating that he was a part of alQueada. As if.
rcsnsprks lets get this right Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11. They went to war for oil only. In which all the oil company got part of the oil.
Holier-than-thou, Religious profiteering is a shock? Isn't that how the right wing social conservatives (aka televangelists) make their money anyway? You know, "God will save me because I am a true Christian since I take the bible literally and everyone else is a barbarian, tax-raising infidel non-believer that will burn in hell.... " Oh wait...Social engineer radicals, radical muslim fundamentalists, Republican extortionists lines get soooo blurry..
The lines are not so blurry, if you don't think what they want you to think you are a heretic.
See? Very simple.
This video has NOTHING to do with history, and Mike Huckabee should be ashamed to be part of demonizing the tens of thousands of peaceful, law-abiding, tax-paying, and otherwise "normal" Muslims who are part of our great American community. I frankly don't know why ANYONE would vote for a Republican in 2012. While I realize that neither Democrats nor Republicans are the result of a "virgin birth," Republicans have CLEARLY shown themselves to be bought-and-paid-for by corporate interests in our nation, and have become dangerously radical. Obama's speech in Chicago this evening was a call for ALL Americans to vote for a visionary and constructive Congress in 2012. All that the Republicans seem to have to offer is an agenda that will continue to spread fear about our neighbors, as well as continue to cripple the middle class, increase poverty... while rewarding the most wealthy individuals and corporations.
I am disgusted by Lawrences position that the teaching of history should be left up to schools! Bu****it! I want my kids to have lots of points of view, what are we afraid of? That we can't instill goodness in our own kids?!?! Are we are so fu**ing lazy that we feel we have to leave it all up to the school system? We're fearful of allowing other viewpoints to be expressed? We have lost our way then if that is what its come to. And while we're on the subject of losing our way, what about the fact that our civil rights are being subjugated exponentially by our current administration? What happened to our "great leaders" position that warrant-less wiretaps were a bridge too far? READ:
And this one:
Start connecting the dots people
A quote from LearnOurHistory.com:
"... our children's classes and learning materials are often filled with misrepresentations, including historical inaccuracies, personal biases and political correctness.
With this knowledge, we set out to create the most experiential history product ever - one that would make it easy and fun for kids to understand American history, while remaining true to the facts and free from distorted messages that dilute the significance of our nation's most important stories.
The first result of our hard work is the "Learn Our History: TimeCycle Academy" series ..."
Isn't it ironic that Huckabee cites historical inaccuracies and personal biases as his motivation for developing his true and undistorted material. The really scary thing about this is that there are Americans who blindly hang on this man's every word ... and their children will be spood-fed this slop. Ugh!
Actually, only three videos in the series are available - 9/11, Origins of WWII, and Reagan Revolution. 'Origins of WWII' depicts a couple of skinheads accosting the children. Of course, the skinhead subculture originated in the 60s, not the 40s. 'Reagan Revolution' depicts a knife-wielding minority amid graffiti and devastation to exemplify the condition of America when Reagan took office. It also mentions Islamic Fundamentalists in the first 30 seconds of the video.
It's a good thing I can watch these videos! I must have been brain-washed by my lower-middle-class public school education because I lived through these events and just can't believe the inaccuracy of my memories!
I also believe the cartoon is insulting to young peoples intelligence.
Just watched this and am deeply disturbed. This has NOTHING to do with the responsible reporting of history, and also reflects the fact that Republicans, like Huckabee, lack access to competent and creative animation professionals. But the message... Huckabee is continuing to promote the politics of "fear" (and milenialist theology) and attempting to extend this disgusting and fear-based worldview to our children. This is offensive on so many levels, but mostly to the thousands of responsible, law-abiding, and tax-paying Muslims who are part of our culture and community. Obama's speech in Chicago this evening was a call for ALL Americans to vote for a visionary and constructive Congress in 2012 — as well as Obama. All that the Republicans seem to have to offer is an agenda that will continue to promote fear and division, cripple the middle class, increase the number of folks living in poverty... while rewarding the most wealthy individuals and corporations.
I hope school district administrators do not allow this to be used as a history lesson - it is so much more complicated than what Huckabee portrayed here -
it is not surpriing that a Republican would try to exploit these events for profit -
3 weeks before the attacks, G.H.W.Bush is slinging dead branches on his hillbilly ranch in the @!$%# kicker home state of Texas, and sends everyone a $360 check. On the day of the attacks, G.H.W.Bush is reading Ba Ba Black Sheep to a bunch of little children in Florida. Thanks to G.H.W.Bush, the U.S. was attacked. The Republican's imbecile savior, G.H.W.Bush should be lobotomized.
hey flex, not that it matters, but bush was reading, "my pet goat".
What a disgrace this nonsense is if this is supposed to teach children history I suppose this is how the so called Tea Party learned American History I hope they are his only customers To disgrace the people who died in those airplanes and on the ground And also the men and women who died in these two wars and he calls himself a former Church Leader that I am glad he is not any more I hope he spends all this money before he goes to HELL because he will not need it there Everything is free
Oh, for the love of -- what the in the name of unholy Hell was that?! I actually sat and watched that thing! 1:48 of my life was sucked away by sheer idiocy. I could feel my brain cells being drained away into the abyss of Republican nonsense. So, thank you Mr. Huckabee for taking a man who had a I.Q. of 160 (by old testing standards) and turn him into a blithering idiot that now has the I.Q. of a @!$%#in' ice cube! Wait -- if I bash my head against the wall, maybe -- just maybe -- I'll get my intelligence back. Hold on a moment... Okay, I'm back. It took a few good hits (and man do I have a massive headache now), but I think I recovered my lost brain cells. To think that it takes bashing my head into a wall (which now has a large, gaping hole in it, dammit) to recover intelligence after watching 1:48 of right-wing, badly animated, Huckabee bull@!$%#!"Learn Our History" -- HA! "Learn Our History", my backside! All right, I'm done with my rant. Wait, one last thing, and this is for Lawrence O'Donnell. Please, oh please, never show this or any of Huckabee's other "cartoon" atrocities, it may induce suicidal tendencies the next time instead of just sucking away intellect.
Yep another worthless ass bible thumper thinks he knows everything. And still don't know anything. He is like ALL TV bible thumper making money off the backs of people. But this takes the cake old huck making money from 9/11 where thousands of people died. Some well say others has done it. Yes they did but they LIE about it like old huck has done. The only people will buy is REPUBLICANS/TEA PARTY NUT JOBS OUT THERE. HELL i bet George W. Bush buys a copy of it.
Not surprising that a guy who takes his history lessons from David Barton is "huckstering" propaganda. (Should gross about $20 if he buys one himself).
Just want to add that it's always great to see the Reverend Barry Lynn on the show.
This video teaches Mistakory - not History. The video itself is obviously offensive... But I find it even more offensive that when the video "teaches" children we killed Osama - Obama or his presidency isn't mentioned AT ALL. What follows instead is a vision of Bush speaking to the crowds after the fall of the World Trade Center Buildings. Seriously Mike?
I wonder how Christ would have told children about this tragic story while standing on the mountain before them. Think he might do it the same way, Rev. Mike? Seriously. Think that question through very carefully. Because I think I read a different Bible than you do.
the religious right thinks (or they KNOW) that the bible gives them cover. there are those on the right (rusty, huckabee, barton, and others) who believe that Eccl. 10:2, "the heart of the right inclines to the right, while the fool to the left", really means this: "the heart of the wise inclines to the republican party, and the fool to the democratic party".
of course we know that this is modern usage, giving the baggers and the republicans cover for their lies and manipulations. this justifies, to them, that as long as their intentions are good, it doesn't matter how they go about getting what they want, what they think is right.
it is impossible to even have a debate with someone who believes this, because they are immovable, they have the almighty god on their side, they believe they are the chosen few.
this is why glenn beck and the republicans and baggers feel so comfortable making their snarky and bigoted remarks. when i was very young, about 20 years old, i lived in savannah, goergia, and went to the "Bible Baptist Church" every sunday. i grew up in the midwest in a rural area, and never saw an african american until i moved to georgia. i understand now the attitudes of the religious right because of the "education" i got from going to that church every sunday, and it pisses me off.
if you have cover from a book and a god, based on your mis-use and mis-interpretation to PROMOTE FEAR and you think that book and a god hold reign over any other thing, than there is no hope for compromise or change, only for status quo, and for keeping the "less then" in their place.
Well, I think everyone was correct. The short clip didn't really do much for me, either. After reading the comments down to here, I conclude there are a bunch of whiny cry babies on this site. Get over it.
sixpick, we aren't "whiny crybabies".
huckabee is a hypocritical boring old fart who, like many republicans hides under the "religious right", taking license where he has absolutely none.
huckabee told this 9/11 cartoon W. bush's way, when he included saddam hussein in the cartoon when saddam hussein had nothing to do with 9/11. some of us are still angry over innocent lives lost (iraqi and american) because W. bush had a personal vendetta against saddam hussein for making threats on daddy bush's life. there may have been some other reasons for going into iraq according to cheeeney, LIKE OIL, (not that the bush administration would ever admit that) but iraq and saddam husseein had nothing to do with 9/11.
if you don't like this site because of what you perceive to be whining, please leave.
Making money off of 09/11...hmm, Amazon.com lists over 6,000 books on the subject, wriiten by people who are giving their view and making money at it. The publishers are making money at it. But that is different than a former governor, presidential contender, Baptist preacher, TV talk show host, conservative who is doing the same? Did MSNBC make any money off of 9/11 by broadcasting it and selling advertising time during those broadcasts? If you don't like what former Gov Huckabee is doing...don't buy it.
Someone is making money off of 9/11? Hmmm...Amazon.com lists over 6,000 books on the subject. I wonder how many of those authors are voicing their opinion and trying to make money off of that event? But, they're not a 'baptist preacher, conservative, former Gov, former presidential contender, talk show host (on that other network)'. Could that be the main reason that people are against it? Did MSNBC (and it's parent company) make any money off of 9/11 with all it broadcasts and the ads sold during those broadscasts? If you don't like what Gov Huckabee is doing...don't buy it. He has a right in this country to voice (publish) his opinion, you have a choice to buy it or not.
