Just pass the dang increase already....the showboating has got to stop....here is compromise for you.... reset military spending to 2000 levels, reset spending to 2008 levels, and reset the tax code to 2000 levels. Debt defeated....everyone wins.
cantafford, too bad we all can't think like us but I would set the spendin g at the 2000 level. Remember we had a surplus then. We have a bunch of kindergarden drop-outs in Washington.
what are going to do about 2 conflicts, set them at 2000 levels also?
The irony is that before he became a "highly paid politician" he was a professional FUNDRAISER! But he couldn't scrape up enough for his kids...what an a$$h0l3.
Can you believe it? I don't know if being a professional fundraiser is worse or better than a neighborhood organizer Both seem shady.
Cantafford: You are correct, at least in my view. There is no need for all this posturing & grandstanding. One line statement to increase the numbers, is all that is needed. It should have been done back in April. The GOP/tp associates have created the crisis to perpetuate a false sense of security among the American people, because they believe it would heightened their power base !
WRONG - WRONG -WRONG-WRONG-WRONG- WRONG- WRONG-
I only hope that those who are stuck w/ a tp representative or a power hungry season rep. like Boehner or McConnel will fire them at the next election. Imagine all the stress, that they all have created amongs the most vulnerable of our people. Not something to be forgiven!! Not in my book!! What say you?
Rusty - Neither are shady. Making money for other people but not supporting your own children is vile. Your veiled attack on the President is a failed analogy - he supports and loves his children.
Yes he does. And I would never fault him for that trait. I always thought attacks on Obama's children were stupid, as stupid as former attacks on the Bush girls and Chelsea. Both sides tend to go overboard on this issue. Sarah Palin is goofy as heck in my mind- but I would leave her kids out of it.
Larry - I would end them so yes it would be 2000 levels. The investment would be better spent in OUR OWN country....because no matter how much we disagree we wont go and blow up the new school in our neighborhood or destroy the new bridge in town....unlike those places we are dumping money and infrastructure in while ours crumbles around us.
Thank you Lawrence, for your stand on deadbeat parents. I am a retired child support enforcement officer with the State of Washington. Paying child support seems to be on the bottom of a lot of parents' must do list. The kids never get over this. In their eyes, the parent who doesn't pay for their care doesn't really love them. I have talked with adults who still have this feeling. I hope at least one person feels shamed after hearing you blast Rep Walsh. I just hope he doesn't intimidate his ex-wife into signing off on what he owes. I have seen this happen too many times.
Remember that movie that the House showed the Baggers to get them to sign the bill he put forth would be a good one for for us watch before going to find Joe Walsh to educate him on the importance of paying child support!
Thank you, Lawrence! This is something that's gotten far too little coverage. Being a deadbeat dad is not something to be proud of, and I can't believe this snake is arrogantly strutting about offering his loud diatribes on 'fiscal responsibility', when he doesn't care about the well-being of his own children!
Rep. Walsh: Have you no shame, Sir?
That's why they are called deadbeats, they don't have any shame.
I should have put the 'no shame' line in quotes. It's what he said in a message to Obama. :}

I am one of those kids. My Dad would change jobs when enforcement caught up to him. Once when I was 40, he was bitching about my mom I had to point out how much us kids suffered because he was "punishing" my mom. It had never occured to him. And I suspect Joe Walsh is every bit as self-centered and ego-maniacal as my dad. If I lived in Joe Walsh's district, I would be showing up at every one of his town hall meetings and passing out copies of the court paperwork.
you know..and im not trying to blast on child saupport or anything like that..but child support through the courts suck..why cant rational adults just be allowed to take care of their children without the courts?? if they were still married and a guy losses his job the couple would have to deal with less..so why do the courts think if a guy losses his job and they arent married he should still pay the same as when he was working?? thats stupid and unfair..but the courts are always unfair to the guy..thats just the way it is..and yes walsh is a douchbag because he makes lots of money and wont take care of his children..but there are lots of guys who want to take care of their children and spend time with them but women take advantage of the courts and screw us over..and you all know this to be true
Obviously a man who feels he was taken advantage of.
Sure, there are some of you out there. Your key word in your comment was "rational." Get lawyers involved, and most rationality goes out the window. Men aren't the only ones who get screwed over or taken advantage of by the courts. My divorce cost me $60K, my husband $40K. The ones who got the most out of it all were the lawyers.
zombyx - Far too many men were ordered to pay child support but didn't. "Rational adults" did, but the non-rational ones made their children suffer by their non-payment. My husband paid child support when he was unemployed, but he's one of few that do this. Kids need fed even if dad is not working, and Moms spent a lot of money going back to court trying to make dads pay.
It may seem unfair to "rational adults", but there are too many who look at child support as giving money to an ex and will not pay it unless forced to do so.
It doesn't surprise me that he's getting away with owing so much for so long. My ex- has not paid a penny voluntarily in over 11 years. He is now in arrears $51K+. He'll cross state lines, work under the table, and put all of his assets in his girlfriend's name. Child Support Services has caught up to him at a legit job a couple of times, but after garnishing one payment, he quit the job. Since he works off the books, there has not been a tax return filed since tax year 2000. If they won't pursue Joe Walsh, I seriously doubt anything is going to happen with my deadbeat either.
I feel your pain. This story is all so familiar!
Maybe they can garnish Walsh's pay as a congressman. He might quit to avoid paying.
Sounds just like my father, the only great thing about the state I live in is now that I'm 18+ I can Legally go after him for every penny he owes, and I've made it clear to him that I will, not because I want the money, but because my mother deserves some of it, if not all of it.
Your mother must be a wonderful woman and she must be very proud of you.
I find it remarkable that many of these same guys that refuse to pay child support are also on the "anti-abortion", or "I want a say to stop her from having an abortion", bandwagon? Many of them are also all about "not my taxes" to pay for things like welfare, WIC, Head Start, etc., etc.
I know there are many, many, many guys out there that pay their child support payments on time and in full every month. Of those there are many that actually give more when possible or needed. These tend to also be the same guys that want a positive relationship with their kids. Blessed are the kids that have these dads.
What a terrible, terrible shame there are so many guys that just refuse to be responsible adults. They had fun "making" the babies, but seem to consider it such a burden having any responsibility to care.
daMamma,
well said. many of these republican/bagger politicians who are anti-abortion would be the first in line if their daughter got pregnant.
this is so typical of what they do-they say they abhor abortion, and do everything they can to stop women from getting one, including SOLICITING VIOLENCE against abortion doctors (tiller tiller the baby killer) and their staff. they say that god's divine intervention is a part of every pregnancy, chasing teenagers into the back seats of cars, approving of incestuous/sexually abusive relationships that produce children, insisting that the vulnerable and innocent carry the baby to term.
yet they care nothing about the child after it is born into this world.
apparently not even their own children.
Thank you Lawrence. Dead beat dad, teapotter jerk. No one will miss his dithering. You should ban all teapotters from your show.
Thanks for bringing this deadbeat dad, Joe Walsh, into the light. My daughter's deadbeat dad REFUSED to pay child support or provide health insurance for her since she was 5 years old, consequently, he owes me over $65,000 which I'll never see (daughter is now 31). At times, I worked 3 jobs to keep food on the table on our many rented hovels, and once I only had $350 to my name. These guys are all schmucks, but for a congressman to talk about putting a burden on the backs of his kids - what a hypocritical piece of sewer sludge! But this also highlights just why tax loopholes on billionaire corporations need to be closed and tax increases for the wealthy. People can find themselves in situations as I did, literally, overnight through no fault of their own. To loose support mechanisms is a financial death sentence. Redistribution of wealth? You bet! But we need to start it in the opposite direction - instead of from the bottom UP!
i hate to be the asker of such a question but ..if he was such scum why did you a. have sex with hoim and b. have a child with him?? what does this say about so many women who do this??
Ignorant moron! Many women go in to a marriage for all the right reasons, and then things go south - for many reasons. In my case, he became physically and emotionally abusive. After 11 1/2 years, I'd had enough. And, because I had the audacity to leave him he decided he'd show me! He secreted as many assets as he could (now owns a travel agency and 3 or 4 houses - all in his girlfriend's name so I can't get any reimbursement out of him) and left me with nothing. The only nice thing was that I never had to explain to my daughter why I left him. This happens to both men & women, cretin.
Excellent, Lawrence, again! You speak the truth so eloquently. I wish every family-value loving Republican would heed your words.
Another dirtball Republican destroys himself through arrogance and routine hypocrisy.
Well, well, well, will someone please tell me how could the people of Illinois elect a deadbeat Dad to Congress. Congressman Joe Walsh owe his kids over $100,000 dollars in back child support. What a lowlife this man is.
Thanks Lawrence for exposing that fraud Joe Walsh.I'm sure when they dig deeper they will find a lot more on this guy.I could'nt stomach him since the first time Iseen him. When you love the spotlight, the spotlight will love you.I hope the people that elected this idiot take a hard look at him.You said he only won by 300 votes. The so called "angry voters"made some very bad choices in the last election.Hopefully they will come to their senses next time around. The tea partiers must be defeated. So once again Lawrence thanks, but even if he straightens out his child support PLEASE dont have him on again, he turns my stomach.
Every time I heard Congressman Joe Walsh mentioned I think of Joe Walsh the singer/songwriter, former member of The Eagles. Which may be very appropriate since Joe Walsh's (the singer) biggest solo hit was (Living the ) Life Of Illusion.... which is what the Republicans are doing.
Dear Mr O'd
This has got to be one of the great journalistic gotchas of all time. Your outrage is more than appropriate. Thanks.
This guy is the congressman in the district next to mine and I think he's ignorant and a hypocrite. From what I've heard he also owes his campaign manager money. And he only won by a little over 300 votes. Thank you, Lawrence, for your Rewrite tonight. I've been saying every time he comes on why do these people give him this exposure. I'm glad I don't have to see him on your show any longer. And this just shows the true nature of his character.
Joe Walsh, sexist Republican slob, eviscerated by the revelations of his own actions. You may clean your bowels off of the floor, sexist Republican, Joe Walsh.
I hope district 8 in Ill. makes this loser start his political career as a freshman and end it the same way
Why am I not surprised...another lying, delusional Republican. I heard him on the Chris matthews show saying to Chris " Obama is your President" over and over. Chris said to him "he is your President too" The man is hateful and irresponsible, not fit to be in Congress or anywhere else. Who pays his salary and for his health care? The government he claims to hate. Think about it, he chose congress rather that a 9-5 job to get the same thing he is against....Con Man!!! I feel badly for his children, to have a dad like that!
He had his home taken from the bank and "used" it ( the foreclosure) as a " I am a regular joe with financial difficulties..I feel your pain" crap, to get elected. The child support just became made public knowledge. What a low life. He should be pulled out of office or all of his income should be turned over to the children.
I watched Lawrence, tonight and saw the replay of all his speeches this week,..."I won't let this debt fall on the backs of my children..." What a joke.
What a scumbag.
I won't have the evil democrats lay their debt "on the backs of my children"... I'm the father, I get to starve them MYSELF!
You should give some "sample" interview questions that responsible journalists should ask if he ever gets on any program ever again.
Thank you, Lawrence for exposing the hypocrisy of "family values" fraud, Joe Walsh. Moreover, thank you for raising the stake on this form of domestic violence that is just as evil as physical violence, stealing from strangers, burglary, fraud, sexism-of which this is a prime example of how detrimental gender discrimination against divorced mothers of minor children is and how much it costs the taxpayers to subsidize the family-which I agree we should- but go after the deadbeats as well. Former Social Worker, PA. You have the best political policy show.
To paraphrase Mark Twain; Are the people in Congress really smart and puting us on or are they really idiots who mean it?
I concur with Agile-3829775 and would hope that more of the radical politicians on both sides of the aisle and the Tea Party were banned from broadcast media. Look what broadcast media made of Casey Anthony. The girl would be spending the rest of her life in jail if Nancy Grace and the like hadn't made her a so called celeb. The broadcast media keep putting our elected idiots on which raises their position to their radical agenda. Of course we know what to expect from Fox News, but I expect better from the other broadcast programs across the country. Thank you again Lawrence. Now if the rest of the MSNBC broadcasters would follow suit it would be a good start.
I am so happy that Lawrence has made this decision. Why would anyone listen to this deadbeat dad and I will make certain that I never listen to any interview that includes him. He is a deadbeat loser and being in the Congress doesn't change that.
GOD LOVE YOU LAWRENCE O'DONNELL!!!
Thank you for exposing the hypocrisy of these anti-abortion dead beat dads - there are 3 in my family alone! Waiting it out till the kids are 18...Yuck! Enough is enough already! Cut 'em off! I'm all for your ban.
That was classic...Great job Lawrence!!!
GOD LOVE YOU LAWRENCE O'DONNELL!
Thank you for focusing the light on the insidious, pervasive, and under-reported problem of anti-abortion deadbeat dads - there are 3 in my personal sphere alone! Enough is enough with the hypocrisy already! I appreciate your taking a stand and banning his butt from your show! And all this talk of "manning up" just makes me want to... So glad you did!
Gratzi Gratzi Gratzi!
You're the best >> keep at 'em!
Loved this segment! Why don't more journalists report such hypocrisy all the time? Maybe a Facebook page of deadbeats (dads and otherwise) would encourage/promote/inspire more and better reporting. In the meantime, can we make the Joe Walsh scandal into a bumper sticker?
