As Lawrence casually mentioned in a tweet earlier, he's going to be talking about a "lotta gay sex" in tonight's show. (How's that for a tease?) The story actually involves presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann and the therapy clinic she co-owns with her husband.
NBC's Michael Isikoff reported that undercover video taken from the Bachmanns' Christian counseling center reveals staffers are using prayer and Bible scriptures to help cure people of homosexuality.
At 8pm ET, Lawrence gets details from Wayne Bessen, founder and executive director of Truth Wins Out, a gay rights group behind the undercover video.

If you are going to talk about God, then you better read his Word, i.e. The Bible. God states exactly what he feels about homosexuality. He groups it with bestiality, pedophilia, adultery, sodomy, etc. He detests homosexuality and calls it "AN ABOMINATION" several times in His Word.

let me point out a few things, if you are interested.
during the "biblical period", when these words would have been written, there was no such thing as homosexuality", neither in the Hebrew era, nor in the New Testament era. homosexuality did not exist as a term or as a person.
at the time the bible was written (both hebrew and new testament) homosexual acts were just variations of "having sex". during the greek era when the new testament was written, homosexuality between an older man and a younger man was seen as a very common form of mentoring.
i do not understand everything perfectly either, but i do know that what looks to us like blatant hatred for homosexuality, the biblical theology has nothing to do with homosexuality per say. you mention sodomy because of the story of sodom and gomorrah. if you want to take that story at face value without any thought involved, or of not knowing biblical history, it is easy to make that simple assumption.
to get this straight, marriage in biblical times was usually polygamy. women had the status of cattle and were bought with gold, and were simply there to have children for the men. there might have been a component of sexual attraction, but the women were there to have children with their husband's name.
leviticus 19:22; god says to moses, "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman, it is an abomination". in leviticus you will find 600 other strictures as well including do not eat shellfish; do not spit on the floor; prohibitions about women having their periods. these strictures would certainly be of interest to an anthropologist, but these things are not anything we would live our lives by today. these things are the wisdoms of a rabbi; the ban against eating shellfish is of equal value as the ban against homosexual acts.
i simply do not believe that god detests homosexuality.
to my knowledge jesus does not say anything about homosexuality. he does say alot about not judging others, and loving your neighbor.
you don't have to agree with everything your neighbor does, but it isn't up to you to say that god hates the act of homosexuality. you might be taking the bible at face value, without learning the history surrounding the writings of the bible.

You need to actually read the book you are hitting others over the head with. "He" does not group "it" with those things. But lets take the one accurate word you quoted "an abomination"...a word used in Leviticus about "man lying with man" . You are right. That exact word is used again in a previous chapter of Leviticus...the exact word.... to describe.... THE EATING OF SHELL FISH. Strangely, I have never heard a single Leviticus quoter as riled about eating Lobsters, Crabs and Shrimp as they are about gay marriage. Wonder why.

i am not hitting anyone over the head with the bible. i am simply relating facts as i have understood them to be based on studies i have done.
i do not simply read a parable and take it at face value. there is a deeper meaning behind the parable or story.
and yes, when god speaks to moses he groups homosexuality with eating shellfish, spitting on the floor, all are strictures in the book of leviticus, including "you should never see your sister naked".

I saw what Marcus Bachmann said on the show tonight (12th) and am in complete agreement. He is a good Christian man and what he is saying is exactly true. I wouldn't go so far as to call homosexuals "barbarians," but I understand what he was saying. That therapist is a good therapist to talk about God to his patients (even if they are idiots to try to videotape a private conversation during a therapy session). God has stated that "to lie with a man as you would a woman is AN ABOMINATION!!" I am shocked that the democrats are so fine with a social environmental sickness that needs to not be encouraged. Homosexuality is a very sick way of life psychologically, as well as physically, i.e. AIDS, STDs, etc.
I'm really surprised at the acceptance of this way of life and the way liberals make fun of anyone who believes the Word of God and tries to live their life by it. Liberals are more accepting of social perversions than a moral way of life. I think it is sad.

Using John Becker as your mole was a bit unfair. He would rate at least a 12 out of 10 in temptation. However his counselor did nothing in the least improper sexually. The counselor, even if he were gay, would have no risk of being seduced. He would have a heck of a time getting a gay date. I wonder how Mr. Bachmann himself would have behaved on encountering the stunning Mr. Becker. Bachmann's accent gives away that he hung out in the 60s with screaming queens. That does not jibe with his current story. I would also like to know why there was such a high turnover of foster children in the Bachmann household. Michelle Bachmann is a deeply evil person. It stands to reason there are some corpses rotting in her personal closet.
This show really grieved me tonight. Comments were made that this is something that cannot be healed by prayer, derogatory comments were made about Christians who had failed, as if a couple of examples meant it was true for all.I do know of someone who was set free of homosexuality through prayer, and is now helping others. "christians" have opinions all day long on everything because they feel they have the word of god to back them up. it may be possible for some who are gay to change their lifestyle IF the desire is strong enough. some of this may be based on the guilt they feel, knowing the embarassment and shame they may have caused their families, and not wanting to feel responsible for that. some may feel the need to change to fit into a more acceptable lifestyle, and some gays may truly feel that the way they were born, and the resulting feelings and lifestyle is sinful, and they fear the repercussions of that (hellfire).
michelle bachmann, sean hannity, glenn beck, sarah palin, the republican party as a whole profess to be christian. yet they are very busy trying to keep gays and lesbians as second class citizens. when people who profess to be christian say the mean and horrible things that they say against gays and lesbians using the bible to back up their hateful rhetoric, i have no sympathy for these kind of christians.
what we do know is that when a person is born gay, if the desire to change, FOR WHATEVER REASON, is strong enough that person can make changes in his or her life. As a follow-up to Rob and Suzette, first let me say "Thanks". As a pastor who does a lot of teaching on biblical issues, including "same-sex" matters, I can tell you that there is more--much more--than a strong case to be made that one can be Christian and gay at the same time. One problem those in our Christian "gay-welcoming-and-affirming" camp have is that our position doesn't fit easily on a blog post, while the "anti" crowd's does all too easily. Suffice it to say that to "tie one's theological can" to Leviticus' dire denunciations of all same-sex activity would mean that one would also have to condone slavery, the subjugation of women, and the stoning of remarried divorcees, who are, as Jesus so clearly taught, adulterers. But here again, this isn't a good place to explain why that is.
