In an exclusive interview with Chris Hayes on The Last Word, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer rejected the 85:15 spending cuts/revenue increases ratio reportedly on the table.
"I believe the Bowles-Simpson commission gave an excellent report — that doesn't mean that I agree with everything they had in there, nor did they expect everybody to agree to it. But they had about a 2.5 to 1 spending cuts to revenues ratio," said Hoyer on the show. "They believed, in a bipartisan fashion, that was a reasonable ratio; 15 to 85 is not a reasonable ratio because what it means is the wealthiest people in America are getting a big tax break and the most vulnerable people in America are being asked to pay the bill. That is not an American value, that is not the values we share, and it's not a program we would support."
Hoyer met with President Obama and a small group of negotiators at the White House today. Watch the video for more on his insider update.

As a citizen of this great North American Nation,I strongly urge the democrats, and the President of the United States to under no circumstance allow social security, medicaid, and medicare on the bargaining table.People will remember who is for the people, and who is for the special interest groups.....The democrats should not be on the defensive, and if anyone should be,it is the republicans, and some democrats who are on the sell out to the corporate world......Mr. President Obama, listen to the American people if you wish to be rellected in 2012..........The working class as it stands now is carrying the burden of special interest groups, who for these past 20 years not paid any taxes......STAND UP FOR THE PEOPLE WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES FOR OUR FREEDOM,LIBERTY,AND JUSTICE...

Social Security is supposed to be the "retirement plan" for the non-pensioned workers who don't have a union to get them a nice company retirement plan. Let's cut the big fat retirement plan that government workers and congress have. Let all those who are double dipping the system cut their budgets and live on their company retirement plan and get off social security. And yes, let the government pay back all that they have borrowed from Social Security to balance previous budgets from taxes collect from the very corporations who benefited the most from non-union workers.
Corrupted republicans are in collusion with wealthy people like the kock bros, corporations and wall st. banks. The corporations won't hire, the banks wont loan money to small business and the kochs are just greedy. This is all in the grand plan to bring down this administration. If they can hold down job creation for another year, which it looks like they can, they likely will win the Presidential election. After they take power they will give more big tax breaks to the kock bros banks and corporations. Then suddenly voila, they start hiring and lending. The republicans think that the people will be so happy with them they will never vote for another Democrat. As gullible as some voters are, they may be right.
dont forget that they will hire again but at real low wages.
But hey . . . all we have to do is get 5 jobs at $3 per hour . . .
serving coffee, cleaning toilets, pumping gas, doing lawn care, and other menial things . . .
for the wealthy and for politicians . . . and we will have it made !
OR . . . we could move over seas where all our middle class jobs have gone and make $3 per day.
There are options being created for us by the ruling class.
Gee . . . thanks . . . hey ?
When the Dems had a super majority, they tried to pass tax increases and couldn't do it, so why would you think that the Republicans would do it, also how can you say it is a problem with the right when the left did the same thing. There is an obvious problem with the spending in Washington when, again the Dems with a super majority doesn't even set a budget and the 112 Congress has to squabble over setting the 111th budget, and furthermore the Dems voted 96 to 0 against President Obama's last reposed budget. since I was born the revenues to the Goverment have tripled, yet their spending has increased 5 times.
If any govenment offical cared about the working class they wouldn't be trying to raise taxes on the rich( big corporations) they would be finding a way to make big business share there obsene profits with the working class that are employed by them.
Dems voted 96 to 0
there was that many??!!
at best maybe 56 with one interdependent and a nonindependent fool.
sorry to vote was 96 to 0 everyone.
Sorry to break the bad news, but the Dems haven't had a "super" majority in so many years it doesn't matter. 58 is not a super majority.
The trouble is that the majority of either party are just puppets for the corporations and those corporations that are part of the military industrial complex that have become far to powerful since the end of WW2 and their introduction of the CIA that was started to ensure that our government would always want newer and better weapons to counter those that their CIA says the other side has. 99% of the CIA reports on Soviet weapons were hyped and the numbers pumped up to scare congress into ordering more bombs, missiles and planes to deliver them with. By the way these same corporations own most of the major media outlets here now too. That means they can control the propaganda that will always keep them wealthy and in control. Ike warned us about this in 1960 and we didn't pay attention, we were too busy with all the distractions such as pro sports and the latest cars and gadgets that were put in our faces by the TV. more to come......
