Mr. Frum mentioned that Corsine (I think that is who he talked about) was worried about primary challenges to his seat. You know what? Who cares? It is not a JOB. You are being paid to represent your community. It is a service for the people in your community. It is not a job! If you do the right thing and work with the other party to bring about the best approach for the country and lose your seat, so what. At least you'll be able to say you did the right thing. And when the idiot that takes your seat completely fails you can run again the next time your seat is up for election. I get so sick of these jerks in DC who think of this as a job that they can stay at for years. We need term limits and now! How can we do this without needing to get these tyrants involved? Because that is what they are. They are no different than some of these rulers in Middle Eastern countries who use money, lies and deceit to stay in power. And they do it while the people of their countries lose everything.
I agree. The President of the United States can only serve two terms, eight years. While Congresspeople and Senators can stay till they die or is defeated. A term limit should be set for them also. Two terms is enough for them also.
Nor should they be able to vote their own pay raises. In fact, since this is public service, and people seem to need to be independently wealthy to run for office, it should also be an unpaid position.
Change the subject for a minute. I'm not a fan of this Greenwald fellow. I was reading that he is connected with the Koch Brothers. Let me finish reading that article about this matter and I will have more info about Mr. Greenwald. Whom I don't trust.
Annie,
You are as wrong about Greenwald as is humanly possible.
There is a common thread in both of these segments though. At the end of this one David Frum mentions the path of the executive claiming Constitutional power to raise the debt ceiling. The Greenwald segment it was all about the difference between candidate Obama and President Obama re executive power and the exercise there of.
So Republican Frumm blames Obama for encouraging the fanatic Republican no-sayers by giving in too much to them, thus leading us to disaster if no deal is reached, and Brooks states: "If responsible Republicans don’t take control, independents will conclude that Republican fanaticism caused this default. They will conclude that Republicans are not fit to govern. And they will be right." 1/07/05/opinion/05brooks.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss --
And the Congressional Budget Office rightly states that making quick and drastic spending cuts would actually hurt the economy, slow down or even reverse the recovery, and cause higher unemployment. - Sewer systems, water supply systems, bridges, etc. are time bombs throughout the US. We could save money in the long run and help the economy at the same time by spending money now to address these problems.
Frumm is right. We are presented, on the one hand, with a confederacy of right-wing nutjobs, on the other with a weakling President (for whom I worked and voted, by the way) who is doing everything he can to enable their wing-nuttery.
Great. Just great.
The Republicans won't raise taxes on the 'rich', so where to start cutting? Social Security my friends. Anyone making $50,000 and drawing SSI gets nothing. See if the Republicans get creative after that punch in the mouth.
