Earlier today, The Grio's Goldie Taylor sat down with our msnbc colleague, Martin Bashir, to share her thoughts on Newton Leroy Gingrich's prediction about how African-Americans will vote in the 2012 election.
Suffice it to say... Newt's no Carnac the Magnificent.

"Do you think that is his insidious intention?" Best question. And a simple "yes I do" as the answer. The republicans talked about Obama's Waterloo. MSNBC has a show called Hardball. The Republicans are playing the political game to WIN everything they can.
Their intent is to defeat Democrats, gain power, and pass legislation that helps themselves. Also, they are politicians. They lie EVERYDAY.
Their intentions are not honorable, they are not simpletons. They are purposefully misleading, lying, fear-mongering, spinning, omitting, legislating, getting rich on purpose.
Are you talking about Goldie, because you and go to a different clip on THIS website and watch video footage of Goldie talking about the same subject, but she is asked more direct questions and her answers are different. What was it you said " spinning, omitting, purposefully misleading, I just watched two different clips and of the same person and saw just that. The Dems and the Repubs are doing the same thing they just want the power and money in different peoples hands. I see it as one party is the cancer and the other is the poison that might cure it. But no matter which one it is if we have too much of either it will kill us.
Ever notice Boehner,Cantor,Ryan and Pence just to name a few.How manicured they look.Never a hair out of place, impeccably dressed in their $1000 suits. They look like they should be in a corporate board room. Then look at the other side at people like Bernie Sanders,Sharrod Brown,Barney Franks and others. They look like they've been working all day, which they have.Working for the middle class not for corporations!
you shouldn't ever reference Barney Frank when it comes to looks, nor the front row the he just slobbered on. I'm shore your one of those that praised M Obama for her wonderful wardrobe during the last presidential campaign. I'm shore she would never have even tried on a suit as cheep as $1000, especially with Opra's help. If you going to bring up such a petty comment at least bring Mrs Reagan into the conversation. I'm shore everything she wore would have been ruined by Barney's slobber.
@chem,
i have never seen barney frank slobber on anyone. this is just an ignorant bigoted remark made by you because of his homosexuality.
@joca, i agree with your comments about the republicans you mention above. because of that, i always find it interesting that the republicans refer to any democrat running for office as "elite", or "exotic". i think the republicans do this to draw attention away from themselves, from what they really stand for, from what they truly are.
the "upper crust", the aristocracy, the privileged class, the elite, the rich, the beautiful and the well-born; their peers.
the very people they represent.
Yeap...got it all figured out. Who knew? All you have to do is look at a politician is dresssed to see how great they are!
Kennendy...Sharp
Clinton...Classy
Obama...GQ
Statements like yours are exactly why my headaches keep getting worse. Gimme a break.
As Bugs Bunny once said.." What a Mar**n."
Cuomo 2012 -------------------------Cuomo 2012 --------
What purpose do for profit business corporations play upon our society? Most people will rightly claim corporations form to allow investors an opportunity to sell products or services with shared, taxable income as the reward. Often corporations cooperate with Government advising which legislation enhances or hampers its ability to operate profitably. Society benefits by enjoying not only useful products or services but also generate tax revenues given to Government. The above business model helped America build itself into a global economic powerhouse envied by other societies including Communist ones. The key to such success could arguably be due to the balance and cooperation between Government and corporations within a free democratic system especially when Government operates with its citizen’s best interest in mind; thereby balancing possible abuses corporations might attempt. Our history has recorded many success stories with this relationship, and again proving our Capitalist system functions well; therefore our ostensibly noble corporations should rightly expand opportunities to other nations spreading economic success to other peoples—right?
What happens when the balance collapses in favor of one or the other? Bolivian (South American) Government suffered water quality issues and privatized its water services to American Bechtel Corporation in order to solve this chronic problem. Bechtel promptly increased water rates in order to finance needed engineering upgrades to the system resulting in Bolivian citizens protesting. Bechtel rightly justified the need to fund costly upgrades and continued the higher water rates. Some citizens (not all) refused to accept the higher prices and resorted to drinking rainwater resulting with Bechtel claiming foul to the Government who promptly gave rain water rights to Bechtel who promptly placed a fee to anyone using God’s rainwater itself. Eventually Bechtel left the country after citizens threatened to bring down their Government.
Learning many American municipal, state, and local governments privatized typically government services, e.g. toll roads, parking meters, etc. to corporations, one wonders if the Bolivian experience might not happen here in America. Granted our corporations could be deemed too honest to abuse such services, but that is not the purpose of this very political discourse. The purpose is to point out consequences to mistakes. Our Forefathers structured a check and balance system of government into three branches each diluted with power limitations, but does this system work as intended for corporations? When Iraq invasion became a preemptive strike against weapons of mass destruction and deemed a mistake, rather correct the mistake the mission changed to killing Saddam Hussein, and when that mission successfully concluded, the mission changed to nation building. When America interned Japanese looking citizens, the mistake took years to rectify. When Wisconsin citizens discovered their newly elected Governor attacked the very citizens who voted for him, they had no recourse to change the election until a year later; by then the damage has been done. There are numerous instances where we Americans make mistakes, but are completely incapable of correcting them to the detriment of all—why is that?
We Americans are proud peoples; we have difficulty in admitting mistakes, and even when admitting them we often blame others, and do nothing to correct them. Our pride is one reason, but another more sinister reason exists; manipulation by sociopath type entities such as corporations, but not exclusively so. These entities have no reason to serve society, but instead to perpetuate their very purpose of existence, i.e. produce (not goods or services) profit for its creator. They do not swear allegiance to our Constitution but often enjoy the protection and rights it provides allowing complete freedom to operate in our very integrated society. Are all corporations honest? Do we or our Government possess a check and balance over corporations, political super-pacs, or other organized entities? We as a people certainly do not possess any means to control such entities unless we are in possession of large funding to fight in courts, and these corporations often fund political leaders making any mistakes they inflict on society almost impossible to correct. Obviously we suffer from many mistakes given the condition of our nation, but do we have the unity and courage to correct them? That is the question only our inheritance will answer.
"jealous gods monopolizing power, destroying all rivals, compelling exclusive loyalty"- (walter lippmann).
"rulers who always look good until the last 10 minutes"-(jan masaryk).
fascism, totalitarianism, dictatorship.
Blacks will not vote for anyone in this republican party, because they have been playing the "race card" against our community to long.
Like the statement that newt stated, Barack let the African-American community down, when in reality, it is the republicans who low balled the President(african-American) at verything.
Little do Americans know Candidates Mitt Romney and Michele Bachman will not only become the Republican nominees for president (Romney) and vice-president (Bachman), but they will go on to the national election narrowly defeating incumbent Obama. The logic to this claim stems from American history dating back 10,000 years where our ancestors hunted and gathered food together eventually settling on serendipitous land, formed culture, and elected leaders according to not the wisest, but the person who could kick everyone else’s ass (and often did). We humans have certainly evolved from selecting our leader by brut strength, but rather good looks and these two candidates fit the criteria. Many wiser candidates have offered their wisdom to lead only to find defeat against a more visually pleasing winner. Although electing our leader by looks sound as primitive as our ancestors, we all are guilty of this behavior. News anchors; Hollywood stars; politicians; school class presidents; propelled into the public spotlight pleases our visual senses.
Cerebral citizens rightly point out the illogical nonsense in such a primitive selection process, but over look the fact voting proves logic has nothing to do with how we like or dislike another person. America is a predominately white society where a non-white was elected (anyone but Bush, or anyone associated with him phenomenon) creating such revulsion by ‘typical’ citizens that talk of revolution (Tea Party), secession (Texas Perry comments), and violent reactions (guns at rallies ending in Phoenix Massacre) proves we are still a primitive culture who can not select with logic or reason, but by emotion. The 2012 Presidential election forebodes an emotional roller coaster ride worthy of history ending with our evolutionary fore-brains intact or suddenly a new evolved, logical voting citizenry—anyone willing to bet on the latter by election time? Hail to Chief Romney! Hail! Hail! Hail!
Everyone by now realize—or should realize—corporations (and bankers) have conquered us (so why bother voting phenomenon) leaving our political process to only decide social issues, e.g. abort or not; gay marriage or not; pot or not; keep grandma alive longer or not; share prosperity or not; etc, etc. Our political process begins with your local assembly persons or council, state, and national elected offices, but in fact anyone who receives our tax dollars, e.g. judges are part of our political process; may I suggest you follow your dollars and watch how it affects your social preferences. At this level, you will vote with your money not your eyes.
