Kicking Rep. Anthony Weiner while he’s down, today several Democrats joined the chorus of Republicans calling for the New York congressman to resign.
Former DNC chair Tim Kaine was the first to publicly come out against Weiner, followed by Rep. Allyson Schwartz, Rep. Mike Michaud, Sen. Mark Pryor, Rep. Mike Ross, Rep. Niki Tsongas, Rep. Joe Donnelly and former Governor Ed Rendell.
During his teary confession-filled press conference on Monday, Weiner said he does not plan to leave the job.
Adding a new twist to the saga, multiple sources told NBC News that Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, is expecting the couple’s first child. His office had “no comment.”
Though, his office did release a statement addressing a new X-rated penis shot reportedly of the congressman, which was posted online today by Sirius XM hosts of the Opie & Anthony Show.
Weiner’s spokesman told NBC News, "As Representative Weiner said on Monday when he took responsibility for his actions, he has sent explicit photos. To reiterate, he has never met any of these women or had physical contact with them. As he said, he deeply regrets the pain he has caused. With the full support of his wife, he is working on righting these wrongs with his family and his colleagues."

I agree with Lady J. This is so preposterous. Weiner is not the first elected official to be in a sex scandal, and sadly, he won't be the last. We Americans have so many very serious issues to ponder right now. What does all this attention to a lurid scandal say about US?
I guess we can all feel better about ourselves when we look at scamps like Weiner. That is a cheap way of getting self esteem, and it will not make our problems go away.

It's laughable that some polititions are saying that he should resign because he lied. If all of them resigned for that reason then who would run the country. The voters that votes for that district should be the ones who decides, not Eric Cantor (AKA) the little weasel.

He is not my Representative so I think they should decide who the want to represent them. Until these recent events I would say that he was doing an exceptional job. As long as this was between consenting adults I would have to say this is best left between he and his wife to sort out. Lets face it the Internet and all these other tech gadgets which keeps everyone plugged in has created a bunch of new classification the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) so Weiner is just the tip of the iceberg on this one. In fact I would wager that more then 10% of posters here have over disclosed in some from on social media outlets. Besides the celebrity crazed culture that we are generating in American breeds men and women who are essentially set out to pursue anyone they believe to have money and or power. We may need to think about producing more actual goods and services in America rather then celebrities.

I am loving all the "They're doing it too" arguments. There are too may examples of these politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle, to say your guy is better than the other all the time. It is up to the DNC, his congressional peers and the people who vote for him. How effective will he be after Weinergate?

OK, so I'm just gonna put this out there because it bothers me. It seems to me that congressman Anthony Weiner is being made an example of. Not cool. Personal peccadilloes aside, he does his job and he does it well. Did he do something illegal? If he did, then prosecute him, but this public flogging is too much. I hope everyone is making a list of the gutless dems calling for Weiner's resignation. I know I am. And if my reps in NY23 and elsewhere know whats good for them, they'll either back Weiner or keep their mouths shut. Because I won't hesitate to contact their offices immediately.
How about we stop letting fear of what the GOP will say manipulate us this way? They're going to make hay of it no matter what, so I think Congressman Weiner should stay put and do his work for as long as his constituents want him to.

He messed up BUT he s a good politician. Anthony Weiner should stay. That is between him and his wife. I do not like that he lied about it and perhaps he should answer for that. Worst things go on in Washington all the time. I also feel that he is always fighting for all of us against the Republicans over all the wrong things they try to do and we should not forget that
Oh, for God's sake, I think all supporters of not holdiing Weiner responsible for showing his Weiner have probably done similar sexting and are afraid to be too shocked for fear that they will be exposed. I can assure you that given my low paying teaching job gave me enough sense not to "sext" so ya think a Congressman would exercise more self control. I would think that with the mess we're in in this country that Congress members would be too busy for such; they have too much time on their hands.
How can someone who shows his private parts indiscriminatingly be a "good politician." I think there must be a lot of scared sexters out there who are afraid to criticize him. Poor George, Abe, and Franklin.

What does that have to do with politics. That is a personal problem
Not only by definition but by the title of his occupation, the individual discussed here is ultimately a representative of the United States of America in their entirety and of all its people. And, regardless whether he broke a law (or laws), or didn't, and regardless of all the philosophical and technical rhetoric that transpired thereof, my bottom line is that a person engaging in the apperant documented behavior as presented, is: an inappropriate representative of the United States and its people. And similarly inappropriate is any other official of an alike ranking as the case may have been or will be.

I am not a New Yorker but I don't want Weiner to resign and apparently his constituents don't either. His wife loves him and will give him another chance which is a pretty typical response and no one has any right to criticize her for it. What he did was dumb, but he's not the first one, nor the worst one, nor the last one. Does it make it right...no! Does it make him a flawed human....yes! There probably are very few men in the world who haven't at some time stumbled a bit here....or lusted in their hearts at the very least. None of this alters the fact that I'd be deliriously happy to have Anthony Weiner as my Representative here in Phoenix over the Republican Flake (Jeff) who is my representative. now and who rubber stamps every word out of Republican leaders' mouths.
I also am making a mental list of the Dems who are calling for Weiner's resignation and you can bet they won't be getting any of my support in the future. I'm going to give their share to Anthony Weiner. They are way off base here because it truly is his wife's and his constituents' business. I've already written Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid about their jumping through the hoops to the Republican tune. I find it embarrassing to see my Democratic Party leaders bending over backwards to please the Republicans.
As for the two-faced Republicans, particularly Eric Cantor, their "OMG Weiner is so bad and should resign is sickening in light of their staunch support of Esign, Vitter and others were forgiven and given the "it's up to their constituents" chant, makes them all the more sickening and hypocritical.
