Just one day after President Obama gave a speech on Israel and the Middle East, things got tense between the President and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House. Sitting next to the President, Netanyahu declared that Israel would not pull its borders back to those from 1967 in order to make way for a Palestinian state. While President Obama looked on, Netanyahu called that suggestion "indefensible."
The President tried to find a more diplomatic tone saying that these kinds of disagreements will happen "between friends." The remarks from the two leaders came after a lengthy closed-door meeting at the White House. "We value your efforts to advance the peace process," Netanyahu said after that meeting. "Israel wants peace, I want peace. ... We want a peace that will endure. ... For there to be peace, Palestinians cannot expect Israel to go back to the 1967 lines."
In his speech yesterday, President Obama said that the U.S. supports the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel based on borders that existed before the 1967 Six Day War.

I'm calling for all democratic and independent jewish voters to vote republican on 2012. We all know this Obama guy has Arab/Muslim ethnic background who is very symphatetic and supportive to the palestinian cause and wants a separate Israel/Palestinian state. Very dangerous thing for all jewish people. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa what was that sound cindy? Are there people in the walls watching you? Is the fluoride in your water? be very very careful.
And you know this how?
Madam,
You are a moron.
CINDY and MELANIE, i hope you read this and respond to what i have written, because you all are conveniently forgetting some recent history.
what the republicans are saying today completely deflates their previous views of the pre-1967 borders for a palestine state.
anything that president obama proposes is automatically condemned by the GOP, even if/though they supported it three years ago, when president bush said it. so, it is completely expected then that mitt romney claims that President Obama has thrown the president of isreal under the bus during his mid-east speech yesterday.
i am slackjawed at the amount of rhetoric by the GOP suggesting that President Obama has come up with something new and radical by suggesting that that isreal should go back to pre-1967 borders. this has been the basic idea for at least 12 years. President Clinton discussed this with Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat at Camp David. W. bush discussed this with Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert. did you get that? bush said it also.
we have seen this over and over from the GOP. they flip flop on everything, even things that they strongly supported before, like the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE, as soon as the president brings it up.
also, you might want to do some research on how the Isreali's attained the land in palestinian territories. there is a dispute as to whether Isreali's settlements in these territories are a breach of Isreal's obligations as an occupying power and constitute a breach of the Geneva Conventions and whether the settlements constitute war crimes.
the republicans must say to themselves and each other-"forget what we said before. if the President is for it we are against it".
Tell that to the INDEPENDENT VOTERS. I don't care what Bush did, I always think he's a bad president but Obama is the worst. This is a guy who received a nobel peace price and look at how many wars he declared already. Now he wants to divide Israel which would consequently put that country in a very precarious situation. Now the GOP may have supported it but forget about what they did, they're not running the country. It's not about Bush anymore, it's about Obama now. Our country is going to hell with this guy and now we have this.
Cindy. You are not making any sense. Re read what Suzette posted to your comment.
NO ONE IS BLAMING BUSH. We don't even care about him...the damage is done.
We are just pointing out that these same words that Obama spoke about Israel and Palestine are almost the same words that GWB spoke yet the GOP had NO TROUBLE when GWB did it but now that there's Black man in the White house, who was ELECTED by a landslide, not SELECTED by 5 RW supreme court justices, they HATE IT. The same words, the same policy, the same sentiment towards peace in the middle east.
GET IT??? They hate Obama and no matter what he does...it will be wrong, bad, cowardly, overreaching...IRONICALLY all the things that the last clown DID do and got away with.
Obama did not get his ass handed to him.
BTW Cindy English is not your first language?
Maybe you should splash water in your face and reread her comments. She said "we have seen this over and over again on the GOP, they flip flop on everything." As an independent voter, I don't care what Bush and the republicans said and stood for on this issue. Blame him or not, it's all in the past. I worry about the present situation. Obama wants to create a separate Israeli/Palestinian state and that's a very, very dangerous proposition for all Jewish people. And above all, I think he's just trying to stick up to his own kind, not that there's anything wrong with it. And admit it big mama, he did get his ass whooped by Netanyahu !!! That's English 101 to you !!!
oh yeah, the GOP wants us to forget about everything they do.
like coming up with the idea for, and supporting the individual mandate until President Obama put it into his health care plan. like the GOP freshmen who want the President to not be so partisan (please) in his rhetoric about paul ryan's deficit plan regarding the defunding of medicare, when these very same freshmen ran for their seats promising to repeal "obama care", saying the President was going to "pull the plug on grandma", and said that "living wills" are "death panels".
as a nurse. i can tell you that living wills are meant for the living to plan for their future death, something that will happen to all of us, something we can plan ahead for.
but, i digress.
it is very difficult to forget about what the republicans have done, when what they have stood for in the past, is completely opposite now, and the reasons are obvious. the republicans only concern is making sure that our president hasn't any successes so that a republican will be elected in 2012. the GOP is not thinking about the country as a whole, they are only thinking about themselves.
nazism, communism, hitlerism and republicans, all a form of totalitarian gov't.
this is what the republican party believes. get rid of the democrats, have only one party-the republican party. president bush said governing would be much easier if he were a dictator. but as we soon learned he was only "the decider".
Totalitarian gov't, as in communism, socialism, marxism. I think you mean to say Obama and the democrats.
Cindy-3358832 said this "And above all, I think he's just trying to stick up to his own kind, not that there's anything wrong with it" --------- His own kind is American, it seems to me that you are not the one sticking up for your own kind.
listen cindy, i don't see the democratic gov't trying to take away the rights of people like the republican party is so fond of doing.
republicans love to sling the word "communist" and "nazi's" at democrats, but what they conveniently forget is that both of these "gov't's" have one power, one dictator, a totalitarian gov't. this is exactly what the republican party is trying to do. they want to take rights away from ordinary people (women, gays, african americans, other minorities, the mentally ill, the poor, the disabled and the elderly), and give everything to the rich and powerful (big oil, wall street).
why on earth would republicans refer to democrats as communists when they are trying to look out for everyday americans? do you feel that democrats are nazi's because we want to put regulations on wall street so they can't gamble with our money? do you feel democrats are nazi's because they want regulations on big oil to help make sure the rigs are safe, among other things? do you feel that regulations prevent big oil and wall street from making money and creating jobs? or maybe its just paying higher taxes that prevents that.
whatever it is, it sure appears to many of us that the republican party is not looking out for the average american.
it looks to me like they are trying to do away with everything for the poor and middle class and just give all benefit to a few.
don't you listen to what they say? why on earth would anybody care if a woman and her doctor decide she should have an abortion? why do the republicans care so much that they have to make it their business if two gay people want to get married, and put a stop to it? why does scott walker care if a gay person visits his or her dying 'significant other' in the hospital?
you do see the totalitarian gov't in this, don't you? do you see it? why is any of this their business?
why do women and gays and african americans and others have to fight for rights that should be theirs simply because they are an american, a human being?
WHY?
Obama is trying a diferent strategy . Everyone before has been sugar coating and not telling the truth. We have to let them know that we are behind them but we do not agree with alot of their ways.
Cindy, Please save your breath. These people don't care what you have to say. There is no reasoning or debating them. They are closed minded, full of anger, and passionately hate anyone who does not think and act like them. Nice try though.
Yeah ok kurt, like you have an open mind about anything, like you are not full of hate & anger. I know it bothers you to no end that Obama got bin laden & your good ole boys failed.
You are an idiot.
Don't worry Kurt. I got them exactly where I want them, and they're falling right into it.
Excuse me! I am Independent and I am awake and aware of the world and issues around me thank you. I dont need anyone to persuade me or tell me anything. How is an independent so important to you all anyway. Our politicians like Ralph Nader and others are not allowed in open debate. I am tired of both sides trying to pesuade Independents to think one way or the other. Do you all Know what independent means. I dont think so.If you want to know how an Independent thinks we are very diverse. Check out Ralph Nader, Jesse Ventura, And even Jello Biafra. Very diverse personalities and opinions. Look them up and get an Independent view point. It will open your minds.
listen, kurt, cindy hasn't said much of anything, i have given her many debatable facts, but all cindy wants to do is belittle herself by calling everyone names, and giving questionable thoughts about why our president is a muslim.
if you ask me, it is the republicans who are closeminded, at least on many issues that are facing americans today. they are closeminded on tax hikes to help decrease the deficit. they are closeminded on rights for gays and women and minorities. they are so closeminded regarding moving this country forward (while we have an african american democratic president) that they won't even vote for bills with which they agree. there are always differences between the two parties, but never have seen such open disregard from a party toward a president like we have since this president took office.
cindy does not have me right where she wants me. i am right where i want to be; a liberal progressive hoping and working for the rights of all american people, gays, women, minorities, the disabled and the elderly.
if you or cindy has read what i have written, you haven't responded to defend your positions. it isn't that i don't care what republicans or tea partiers have to say, its just that most of the time you come here to say we are stupid and call us names.
i watch mostly MSNBC because i agree with the views stated there. but i also watch fox, because i like to know what the republican party is saying, even though i already know. just as republicans know how democrats feel on various issues.
cindy or kurt, answer my questions above please.
there can only be one reason why the republican party wants to stick their nose into women's personal business, and to restrict their rights and the rights of gays and minorities. they want to force their beliefs on everyone else. they want everyone to live a certain way, this is communism, nazism, taking away the rights of individual american citizens. do you not see this? IF the republicans lived perfect lives themselves, and really knew a better way, they at least could argue their point. but they stand on the bible and god, and family values, and they do not practice what they preach.
do you get this?
any republican or tea partier feel free to respond.
Suzette, nothing personal, but you are just a little dillusional. I am a Republican who supports gay's rights. Alot of my personal friends are Republicans who happen to be minorities. That is hard for you to digest I am sure. They know the welfare mentality the Democratic Party espouses has enslaved minorities of this country for too long. Also, I believe in a woman's right to choose, as do alot of my republican friends. I am sure that confuses you too. I also drive a small car and don't own a gun. Now you are really confused. However, I support all those who choose to own guns, I support a smaller government, I support the idea that if you work hard you deserve the fruits of your labor. I also believe that socialism is dead wrong. I believe Mexicans are the hardest workers in this country, however, if they are here illegally then they need to go through the proper channels like millions of others. I also know that the left is bitterly hateful and angry, for what, I am not sure. You have a Democratic President, who I actually like (imagine that), and you had control of the House and Senate but still couldn't get past your anger and hatred of anyone who didn't drink your kool aid to accomplish anything. Did I mention I am a hardcore Republican who does not care if gays marry? All of your predudice's need to be re-evaluated. You seriously have a very narrow view of the world. Go out and meet new people. Do you have any minority friends? The left always says deraogatory things about Republicans in refernece minorities but most of them are rich elites who happen to be the real closeted racists.
what you write in your post above, does not represent what the republican party on "capitol hill" puts forth. granted, when i speak, it is about republicans as a whole, it is about what i hear them say, what they are not afraid to say or fight for. the republicans in power are in lockstep. it is rare to have a republican speak out for gay rights or for legal abortion in public, openly. give me the name of one republican in washington who has openly supported rights for gays or women. even the republicans who are themselves gay (as we now know), have never fought for the rights of those they use for their sexual pleasure.
NOTHING that you have written above confuses me.
i guess conservatives would refer to you as a RINO. in other words, a republican who isn't quite good enough to refer to himself as a republican. you hear me. you know what i am talking about. when it comes to civil rights, for example, or abortion, with all due respect, your views as a republican don't count because you only have the power of one vote, and really no voice to help promote change.
i am angry that the republican party doesn't care if everyone has civil rights and that they speak so openly about it. one must wonder what they really feel, because we know they wouldn't tell us that. you do not see that the republicans are trying to take power from individual americans, or at least to keep them in their place?
the republican party has treated barack obama horribly. where democrats will work with a republican president, for some reason, the republicans have refused to work with this president, even on issues they have agreed with in the past. surely you can see that.
listen, i appreciate your post, but i am sure i am much older than you. i do not drink kool aid, or expect or want anyone to drink mine. i only want to express my views, which i happen to believe are right.
since you are a republican, it doesn't surprise me that you see democrats as being angry and full of hate. i see the republican party that way, especially after the way they have treated our president.
tell me how the republican party represents what you say you believe, not including the welfare state or low taxes please. i am right about the republican party, as a whole, wanting to take civil rights from certain american people. that is mostly what i am angry about, and they have the guts to say it outloud. when you vote republican, though it may be for other reasons, you are voting to take rights away from gays and women and minorities.
I guess we can just agree to disagree. However, if the Republican Party is so hell bent on taking rights away from women, minorities, and gays then how come during the last elections there were far more newly appointed Republican women and minorities into Congress than in the Democratic party? Oh I know, they are all "Uncle Toms".
they were tea partiers, right wing extremists. voted in because the economy isn't turning around fast enough.
they think they have a mandate now, to do whatever they want-(paul ryan-kill medicare, scott walker union busting, defunding of planned parenthood for poor women, just a few of things the extremists have on their agenda). we will see how this turns out in 2012.
HAVE THE RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS, THE TEA PARTIERS, WHO HAVE THE REPUBLICANS BY THE BALLS, GONE TOO FAR?
And, I am calling the nearest mental hospital to take care of you.
Who do you think said this? An Arab, a Muslim...? NO!
Surprise!!!!!
"Now is the time to make difficult choices," Bush said. An agreement will require "painful concessions" by both sides, Bush said, but he predicted one could be reached within a year, putting himself more firmly on the line than ever for an achievement considered unlikely by many experts.
This is how Bush described the opening point for peace negotiations:
"There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people. These negotiations must ensure that Israel has secure, recognized, and defensible borders. And they must ensure that the state of Palestine is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent."
"It is vital that each side understands that satisfying the other's fundamental objectives is key to a successful agreement," the president said.

Thats right the cowboy who destroyed our nation.
All democrats and indepentents with ANY BRAINS need to remember the mess we are in and how we got here!
How we got where? You just can't admit that Obama got his ass handed to him today. Didn't have anything to do with Bush. The blaming Bush days are over. Any credibility that Obama gained by killing Bin Laden, he completly erased today. Showing himself to be immature at best. And Lawernce is such a pussy he stuck his fingers in his ears while shouting I can't hear you. Sounds like you're in the same sinking boat nama
melly the teabagger with typical teabagger speak. Obama once again takes the same stance as gwbush & folks on the right go nuts(even more than they already are) Folks on the right never gave Obama any credit for doing what gwbush & cheney could not do & they never will, they will simply repeat what they are told to.
melanie, do you not get it?
no one is blaming bush for what President Obama said. all we are saying is that bush and Obama are on the same page.
they agree on this.
read my post above to you and cindy for some enlightening facts.
p.s. the blaming bush days are not over. if the republicans can give bush credit for water boarding that occured 8 years ago for the killing of bin laden, then they can certainly take credit (blame bush) for the tanking of the economy.
they pick and choose about what they want to take credit for.
one more thing-john mcCain got a detailed report from leon panetta, and he said that torture did NOT lead to the killing of bin laden.
@ Melanie...The facts were handed to you about bush giving the same speech yet you ignore those facts and blame Obama. Hypocrites, no wonder no one takes the rabid right that come in here seriously.
Jews just want to live in peace and 90% of Muslims just want to exterminate them. All of you liberals who back those murderous hethens are no better than Hitler.
netanyahu is an assassin.
not all jews or all muslims want to live in peace.
90% of muslims do NOT want to exterminate the jews.
get your facts straight about netanyahu.
Wow Suzette you are seriously losing your grip on reality. Did I mention Netanyahu's name at all? Go take Logic 101 and get back to me.
he is the prime minister of israel.
there is a connection.
just sayin'.
Not only is Netanyahu an assassin, he could also be considered a terrorist by many definitions.
WOW.....did Obama just get his lunch handed to him or what ! He looked what he is a neophyte, next to a TRUE statesman ! Now we know why he didn't want to meet with him ! What a coward !
Amateur hour !!! What do you expect from a guy who was a community organizer with no executive experience on top of being an imposter and a crook.
net ann yahoo is a typical right wing nut job with nothing but contempt for average folks.
You are foolish.
Obama wanted freedom of expression and the press and for people to "speak their minds" in his speech earlier in the week. Netanyahu has the right to voice his opinion. Who knows what was said behind closed doors. Negotiations are negotiations. Maybe it is good that Netanyahu gets the chance to say no, and Obama can say "well at least I tried." Obama outlined the conflict well in his earlier speech to the State Department: The Middle East is the birthplace of the world's three major religions. OK. Got that. Everyone in the region wants to live in freedom in modern democratic societies (See Iran, Egypt, Libya, Syria, etc.) Israel wants to live in Peace, while in the region children are taught to hate Jews. Got that. There is the rights of minorities to consider in an ethnically and religiously diverse region. OK, now everyone go to work and try to make everyone happy and content, working for the good of their own countries and the region, stop with the ethnic and religieous tensions and leave the poor Jews alone and let them live in peace, too.
Pagliacci said this "while in the region children are taught to hate Jews" ---------- I say that is true BUT you folks always forget how much jews are trained to hate muslims. Look at how folks in the USA are now being trained to hate muslims, it is much worse there in that region.
No Jason, we are just trained to hate you.
The trolls are out in force tonight.
I am amazed that the very people who wave the flag and pound their patriotic chests are the first to talk about the President of the United States as if they were throwing down at some biker bar. This country should take some of the lavish aid we give to Israel and get a few more of you to stay in school and learn some manners, civics, and world history, for a start.
Pot, meet kettle...
I agree 100% Aunt B
Cindy and Jesse are two shining examples of a failed US education system. Maybe they will at least hope any offspring they have try to make it past the third grade.
Whatever Obama has inherited from prior presidents and their 1967 landmarks, he is not acting as an advocate for anyone in the middle east. Bush was accused of supplying weapons for Israel and Pakistan got nothing. No matter what Obama suggests, the GOP will make crazy statements just to disrespect him.
Cindy Arab / Muslim ? what bagger / Con Hogwash Obama has just 2 1/4 yrs after taking on global crash TARP- edge of depression- 2 long wars based on lies & profits- 3 huge unfunded corp - billionaire tax cuts and Bush hidden war debt - jobs overseas with cuts - wages down. Your guys Reaganomics Bush 1-2 Cheney & their con courts--Goldman Fed boys fat cat policies- cuts- greed- GOP deregulating of the robber barons till the people have NO power left led us to disaster .Common thread that unites Repubs is 1. Ignorance of facts 2. Hate of Obama
Melanie The incredible Damage Bush Cheney Rice & Rummy & Bush 6 yr GOP congress caused will linger for many years to come. Lies- long wars- fear tactics- huge unfunded corp tax cuts- hidden war debt- giving up on finding Bin laden Thank God Obama cared and did NOT give up. Bushs loss of jobs- lower wages- more enemies than ever for attacking Iraq for NO reason- except revenge for his daddy and profits. How gullible / short sighted yo u Bush apologists are
The President's secret service must be working 48 hours a day. This man has a gun to his head at every turn. First it was the GOP. Then it was Big Business. Then it was Wall Street. Then it was the professional left. And now it's the American Jews.
Put yourself in the head of the first President of the United States who gives a darn about Human rights. On one hand you got Israel surround by people who want to destroy them. On the other hand, you have a thug nation with nukes who would destroy the whole region out of spite and land. Talk about a Mexcian standoff situation.
The President has to weigh these things. I feel bad for Israel. I really do. They are surround by nuts who want to destroy them. Yet, I also feel bad for all the nuts who have to live under the constant threat of being blown up by a nuclear rain. Or worse yet, have some spy's come in and just kill people.
Israel refuses to sign the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. Yet, they want everyone else to disclose what they are working on. Israel leads the world in humanitarian violations of NATO.
Israel is no choir boy nation. That's why they try to make Palestine look worse than them. There is nothing wrong with clearly defined borders with land swaps. What Israel is doing is called colonization. America doesn't support that nonsense anymore. That goes back to the Monroe Doctrine. Israel is pushing these people off their land like America did to the Indians and the Pacific. Civilized nations don't do that crap anymore. BTW...what makes anyone think Israel is anymore civilized than Palestine? They are thugs with nukes.
It was embarrassing to see Natenyahu looking like a college professor scold the far less experienced student Obama;in fact it was humiliating; but we can correct this mistake;2012 is almost here ; lets get Obama out of the white house before he destroys our country.
Joe, just keep demanding your reps and senators vote for Ryancare. Tell them to support Exxon, Shell and Chevron for another 21 billion in subsidies next budget. Tell them to continue taking credit for OBL. Tell them to vote against raising the debt ceiling.....It willl be a banner election for the Reichwingnuts I promise you!
I still don't understand why everybody is cross with the president. I could understand the political bias of most people on this blog but Obama has really not said anything new or hold a different position of the last 3 US presidents. He has only gotten to the bottom of the problem which is the fact that Israel all along will never go back to the 1967 agreement contrary to US long held positions. All this talk about throwing Israel under the bus has no basis but are as usual an attempt to grab on straws and oppose Obama on anything and everything it does. The truth will always come to light!!!!
Lost in all this mud-slinging is a very important issue. Obama has just proved one of two things: Either he a total moron where world history is concerned, or he does not care about any Jew's concerns anywhere in the world. In 1967 Jews were blocked from visiting their most Holy site - the Wailing Wall. A return to the 1967 borders would mean a return to that situation. He mentioned "Swaps". When have the Palestinians ever negotiated in good faith? In recent history there was a problem with the Gravesite of Sara. The Palestinians did not give anything in the line of consideration in that case.
I haven't been on this site for a few weeks because I actually have a life. However, I though I would check in for a dose of hate and ignorance. I must say, you have all delivered well. Same old people spewing their same old vile "I hate everyone who isn't a card carrying member of the socialist left" rhetoric. Get a Life people! (Suzzette, Jason, Former Rep. just to name a few)
Next time your after hate & anger kurt, look in a mirror you will see it staring back at you
I don't hate you at all Jason, just feel sorry for you. And your comment above about Bin Laden, shows your maturity level. Or lack of it. Don't respond because I could care less what comes out of your vile mug.
Just the facts man, you hate everything Obama stands for & that includes killing bin laden, your guys failed miserably & Obama cleaned up the mess, just as he is doing throughout the rest of the infected USA government. Save your sympathy, as if you knew what that was, kurt. Use it for yourself, as the next 5+ years are going to be a living hell for you & the rest of the right wing nut jobs.
You are the only "nut job" Jason. But thanks for proving it.
Netanyahu gave the President a history lesson. That is a problem with us putting our two cents into other countries affairs. Before we do we need to know the history of how this or that came to be. I think we all can agree to that. Truman, Nixon,Carter were experts on the middle east and Israel. Now Carter is still alive Obama needs to ask Carter for advice. Obama sure dont hesitate to ask Clinton for advice.Remember Carters only milestone achievement in 1978 was the peace agreement between Egypy and Israel.
on this issue I am a Zionist. To be a Zionist in today's world, one must be very different than most Americans, Israeli's, and Palestinians. This is because I back the only morally correct solution to the Israeli/Palestinian "issue"; which is to return the country of Israel back to what it was before 1948, a place where both Palestinians and Israeli's lived. Of course, the Palestinians were never treated like the original land holders in their own country and that is one reason how the Arab-Israeli war created the Palestinian "refugees".
From: www.palestineremembered.com/Acre/Palestine-Remembered/Story674.html
Fifty years ago the UN decided to partition Palestine into two states, one Arab, one Jewish. The ensuing Arab-Israeli war ended with Israel expanding its share of the land by a third, while what remained for the Arabs was occupied by Egypt and Jordan. Several hundred thousands of Palestinians fled their homes, becoming the refugees at the heart of the conflict. Israel has always denied that they were expelled, either forcibly or as a matter of policy.
From: www.palestineremembered.com/Acre/Right-Of-Return/Story430.html (2001)
"Half a century has passed since the dispossession and expulsion of the Palestinians from their homes in 1948. This event shaped the history of the area ever since, and remains, until today, the major issue of Middle East politics.
In spite of five major wars, innumerable raids and attacks, coup d'etats and removal of rulers in all adjacent countries, this volatile issue remains unresolved. Palestinian rights have not been restored nor justice done.
Arguments on both sides of the conflict are loaded with propaganda. The Israelis, however, have been more skilful and powerful than the Arabs in presenting their views. They desperately needed to justify the conquest of land, and the expulsion of its people, and portray Israel's heroic image in the eyes of the West, from whom they derived material and moral support.
Recently, however, partly due to the release of Israeli documents, a number of Israeli historians have re-examined the events of 1948; notable among them: Morris ( 1987,1990), Shlaim, Segev, Pappe and Flapan.
In this monograph, we re-examine the events of the 1948 War, which led to the Palestinian Holocaust (al-Nakba) and derive some conclusions from them. We then examine the means to redress this injustice by applying the Right of Return. By demographic and other considerations, we show how it is possible to effect the return of the refugees with the minimum population dislocation, thus laying the foundation for a truly lasting peace."
It was nice for Obama to visit his ancestral home in Dublin, Ireland. But would'nt be also nice if he visited his other ancestral homes back the Middle East and Kenya. It would be really good for him and the country and could really help smooth relations between the United States and the middle east.
The real problem is there is to many religeous beliefs clashing in such a small space. Nothing else causes more termoil than differences of political and religeous beliefs. You have Zionist,Judaist,Musslum and others all competing for one small piece of land. Until the people become more tolerant with each other and except one government this will never end. The zionist are in control right now so they need to except it and build around those principles.
I beg to differ, the zionists ARE NOT in control ( not the zionists I point to in my links ( did you read those?) with the one country, two peoples solution). If they were, there would be much less "controversy".
