A protester dumped a bunch of glitter on Newt Gingrich and his wife tonight at a book-signing in Minneapolis. The man approached the couple during the event at a downtown Minneapolis hotel and showered the rainbow-colored confetti on the pair. He then yelled, "stop the hate" and “feel the rainbow,” presumably a nod to gay rights. The protester was later identified as 24-year-old Nick Espinosa.

That flamer should be charged with assault. You can't go tossing BS on people just because you don't like their frikken politics.
I thought people from Texas were tough. "That flamer should be charged with assault. You can't go tossing BS on people just because you don't like their frikken politics." If the gays must accept their marriage rights voted on, the bigots that espouse them can handle a little glitter, tough guy.
Sent by two of his ex wives no doubt!
Inthe Middle:
The rocks come with the farm, boy.
I do not agree with this action, but this statement backing Gingrich further illustrates the homophobia and hate that exists on the Right. It is those type of comments that this action prompted.
Glitter in and of itself is not harmful, particularly if they used "cosmetic" grade glitter. Glitter is dumped on people at various occasions, including birthdays, weddings, and even some political meetings. Glitter is in fact considerably less harmful than confetti, which is frequently used at political gatherings, including conventions. Therefore, it's unlikely to merit charge of assault, or even the relatively minor charge of disturbing the peace.
It's not a method that I would use to express a protest. To many, glitter is seen to be akin to fantasy, to joyful and happy ideas. Thus, as a protest, it doesn't meet the minimum requirements!
However, it certainly did draw attention to the politics of Mr. Gingrich, which tend to be very negative, and definitely anti-gay. I can't help but think it's a good thing to shine more light on his political policies, because it will let people see more clearly what a negative politician he is.
First - it's assault, so stop the nonsense, had this been Obama you would be dragging the glitterer in the streets.
Second - what a non-story. This guy is a blip on the presidential screen, will not survive the first round of cuts, and yet every day now he is front page news. Sounds like the little liberal media is already afraid...
Hey look, it's Officer Bubbles. Bubble get on my shirt, I will totally call my mom.
I see some on here calling this assault. Guess at the next birthday party or New Year's celebration, I'm suing. Can't wait for the next ticker tape parade in NY, talk about a nice class action suit.
I agree, Paul. If a similar stunt had been pulled on Obama, the perpetrator would be torn apart as a dangerous, unstable, and racist piece of trash. Acting this way doesn't score any respect from me.
At the same time, Newt IS a dirtbag who likely deserves every bit of it. Maybe we can put the two into a steel cage grudge match? That way, no matter which one loses, everyone who sees it wins.
Would it have been ironic if the perpetrator had been dressed in a stained blue dress and tossing shredded Tiffinay's invoices?
In the Middle would have said to Rosa Parks "that n****r should be charged with disorderly conduct. You can't go disrupting people's commute just because you don't like their frikken politics."
You'd probably like it OK if it was Obama who was attacked. By the way, is there really anybody who actually would like Gingrich's politics? And, if so, could that person please tell me what those politics are, besides opportunism and race-baiting?
Assault? typical closed minded straight response....Follow the glitter way....It is a non-violent protest....get over it....I think it is wonderful....shows people that if you are full of hate, you are gonna get people telling you to stop the intolerance....Equal rights for all.
At least it's better than spitting on them like the T-Partiers did to gay congressmen while they were walking to the House. And I take exception to the word "flamers".
Disgusting.
I saw a clip of a Republican in Iowa shaking hands with Newt today....the guy wouldn't let go of Newt's hand as he continued to hurl insults. That's more like assault...right? Speaking of 'right,' wasn't this a book signing event? And not a political event?
Oh well, all that "glitters" isn't gold....even for Newt.
Paul & Mark-
Your comparison of Gingrich to Obama is disengenuous. One is the president of the United States, and the other is a wanabe. A more relevant comparison might be how Democrats would feel if someone threw glitter on, say, John Edwards. In fact, I'd say that would be a perfect comparison, on several levels.
As a rather typical Democrat, I would think that no matter which of these two was the target, it would be hilarious, morally appropriate, and a waste of good glitter.
There you have it, a fair and balanced opinion.
IntheMiddle, TX That was a really funny comment coming from Texas where only two things are in abundance , Steers and ______— you get the idea.
Another election is coming in2012. so this guy knows Gay's, woman's rights and Medicare will be Gingrich's main talking points.
This guys just getting his point across before the right-wing nut cases start with the Guns, Gays and God thing again... Like they always do every election. Hate, Hate and more Hate...
C. Thomas, I am calling you out as a despicable liar. The events you describe never happened.
Funny how the left has to invent misbehavior by the right while they celebrate rudeness by one of their own.
It's not an assault... unless you can show the glitter caused harm or his intent was to harm Gingrich in some way.
Actually, plenty of news stories came out about TPs spitting on things and hanging Obama in effigy. Typical conservative behavior. They can dish it out, but they CAN'T take it.
But, maybe he was just (symbolically) sprinkling fairy dust on old Newt to help him see the light. :-)
Sorry, couldn't resist!
Seriously? Assault?
It is just glitter. A harmless stunt. Funny too!
All it will do is make old Newt "sparkle" for a few days. (It will probably take that long to get all that glitter to wash off!)
lemur and C Thomas. Those were all fabricated stories and proven to be so. Try again.
No, throwing glitter on someone while shouting a protest is not assault, but it is immature and does not help the perpetrator's cause. If anything, it makes the person that threw it look silly.
What wasn't fabricated was tea batters bringing guns to rallies where the President was speaking. Yes, yes I know it is a Constitutional right, however, they would not have taken it to a place where some white candidate was speaking. Even though I find Bachman, Gingrich and Palin deplorable, I would not attend one of their speaking engagements carrying my gun.
This is simple: throw glitter? get your f-in teeth knocked down your throat!
Charging someone assault from glitter? Now explain which one is supposed to be the "Candy-Ass" and which is the "Masculine" one.
Homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of heaven. God
Wlee, IF there is a "kingdom of god", expect the pearly gates to be slammed in your face for spreading hate.
As for the glitter; I do not think it was right at all to do, but it's interesting that some conservatives find this event offensive and not a woman nearly getting killed by tea party nut jobs at a Rand Paul event.
Opps, here's a better link!

Not what I said but what God said
Comment # 1 restored for clarity.
From the Photos it seems much more of the glitter was spread on the table than thrown directly at Newt. Throwing Glitter is a pretty non-violent offence, however there is probably a reasonable charge the Glitter Assailant should be charged with, perhaps Disturbing the Peace.
I'm pretty sure that Newt does not want to have to go to court and be placed under oath to discuss his being assaulted by a Glitter dusting. He would undoubtedly be asked on Cross how that was effectively different from having glitter thrown at a New Years Eve Party. The press from him filling assault charges would not be good for his already flagging image. I'm sure therefor that Assault is off the table.
SH is it hate to warn someone of an impending disaster,Jesus said hate the sin not the sinner for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Please source with video proof.
Please also source where Jesus allowed for your brand of intolerance.
I think he is a JERK for throwing glitter on Gingrich.
Unfortunately, it can not be considered assault because I don't think Gingrich or his wife were hurt.
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT JUVENILE ACTIONS DO NOT COMPEL ME TO SUPPORT A CAUSE. IN FACT, IF SUPPORTERS OF A CAUSE ACT LIKE JUVENILES, I VOTE AGAINST ANYTHING THEY WANT.
I saw video footage. The JERK aimed for Newt's head.
I'm not understanding this assault charge. I mean, it isn't like the guy threw shoes at him or something. Or worse, http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/crimecops/headlines/Man_gets_8_years_for_attacking_Obama_supporter.html
Honestly, there's nuts on both sides of the spectrum. Some people have the arcane ability to bring out the worst in others though.
The so called attack really didn't seem intent on hurting Newt any:

SH Lev. 18:22,20:13. Sorry hate the sin not the sinner was Gandhi. Jesus said neither do I condemn you ,go and sin no more. John8:11 Romans 1: 18-28
So let me see if I can get this straight:
According to so many of the left wing moonbats on here, if you throw something that will make a mess on the person but will NOT harm him/her then it is acceptable? If you disagree with a persons viewpoints on something a cognitive well thought out debate on the subject CAN be replaced by the launching of a predetermined item(s) that has been known to be non-lethal and will not harm the person?
OUTSTANDING! When is Obama coming to WI again?
(Mental note: remember to place order for water balloons!)
I asked for proof. Bible verses are not proof. And FYI, Jesus was the biggest liberal of all time, he would have welcomed homosexuals as his friends & followers.
Jesus said neither do I condemn you ,go and sin no more. John8:11 Romans 1: 18-28
Moreover, where does it say homosexuals are not okay ??? Where does it say no entry into heaven???
Forget it, honestly I could careless. For the record I am neither homosexual or religious, I just can't stand your hypocritical stance. You vomit biblical verses yet you don't understand them, evidenced by your intolerance for gays. Think about that in a way you can understand WWJD?
Well while I do not agree with his actions, I've got to ask you Karen what would have been the point in aiming for his foot???
No you got it twisted. IF you bothered reading, you would have seen that most of us on the left think that it was WRONG no matter who the recipient of the glittering was; but that would have required comprehension on your part.
Define MOST...go back and read all the posts celebrating what this wingnut did...I did bother reading and have no comprehension issues...see the post just after this one..
SH:
You say you're not religious but yet you proclaim to know what Jesus would do or say. Homosexuality is a SIN in the Bible and yes Jesus would accept him but I guarantee he would be cured of that demonic spirit.
Everything in the world is not of God and the church does not conform to the world ,the world conforms to the church. The book will be opened wide on everyone in the end.

My nieces and nephews have a blast with water balloons. We'll support you in CA!
Good for him! Sad it wasn't cow poo! LOl
We are a pathetic people. We can watch a person demean another, and as long as it's somebody we love or hate, we decide how right or wrong the act was. I wish we could put the "united" back into our country and its citizens.
Were was security? This guy should have been tackled, handcuffed, and charged with assault. I'm no lawyer but I believe that constitutes assault, if even in the mildest of interpetations. Sadly, because he is a left wing activist he'll get off with a slap on the wrist or charges dismissed out right. Donna-704408, how right (no pun intended) you are.
I'm a very, very liberal Democrat. It may surprise people, but I don't think there is any good excuse or reason to throw glitter, or humiliate anyone in public, including Newt Gingrich.
It is just bad manners. For one, my mother didn't raise me to act that way.
People cannot be "civil" when it comes to a difference of opinion.
They have to do some outrageous tactic, because they are not capable of expressing themselves with a calm debate. How childish. I hope his parents are proud of this brat.
This guy is nothing more than a punk. Whether it is Republican or Democrat, each person should show respect for a Candidate running for office.
I do not care for Newt Gingrich, but this goes beyond the boundaries of taking a difference in Political sides.
Shame on this kook. Now when he is looking for, or has a job, he will not be hired, nor will he make himself employable. What comes around, goes around. People remember this c-----------, and colleges do not appreciate this embarassing behavior, either.
Give this "kid" a time out---his parents should count to 3..
ppppfffftt. I don't care what point the guy was trying to make, you all missed the best point. Newt can get up and spout off whatever he wants, whenever he wants a corporate paid puppet for the right. The normal guy has no such podium. We can vote for one crook or another crook but, then we aren't heard from again for 4 years. He just took the opportunity to make his point when he saw the best chance to do so. He was heard by thousands. Nice work.
its kind of funnt, gays want the same rights as a normal couple do until one realises..."hey, i'm not gay" then if married and a divorce ensues, at least one wants things to be like it never happend, and walk away. rather like the woman who abducterd her and her significant others child and fled acrodd the borders.
feel the rainbow? lol, i think ill pass....with all the kool aid floatin around the last thing i need personally is to feel rainbows as well.
Hello gays its 2011 no one care that your gay any more you win stop insisting on being a victim , i don't like Newt ether but if you would have assaulted me and my wife like that ,you would have got your gay ass stabbed or shot. not because your gay but because your a douche that attacked me.
Sounds like Barrack Obama is shaking in his boots. He should play the race card. That is all he has left before the uhauls remove him from our White House
Newt's Child Bride Callista was reported to have said ohh! Shinny. Can I have something new from Tiffanys? /s
So how about we throw glitter on all the gay people we know and see how the feel about it. I'm fairly certain that no matter how much some of my gay friends like glitter they would still be pissed. Get reall people...... free speach is one thing, but this a$$ clown took it one step too far.
So how about we throw glitter on all the gay people we know and see how the feel about it. I'm fairly certain that no matter how much some of my gay friends like glitter they would still be pissed. Get reall people...... free speach. This a$$ clown took it one step too far.
Sweetiep;
All democrats show their true colors of distain and hate by actions such as this.
If Gingrich was one of your zombie-politcians and this happend of course you would call for the attackers b*lls to be cut-off and hung from the partys flagstaff.
Have a nice day (in your own idiotic way)
Sweetie - You're an idiot. I suppose you you thought it was great when Gabby got shot at a rally. Assault on anybody is a serious offense. That you Punk nees to have his azz kicked and then arrested for assault and battery. What if he had a gun? Would that be funny to you? Again, you're an idiot.
Right Sweetie P - assaulting someone is a VERY effective way of changing their mind, isn't it? Hmmm...bet you don't think that is right when the shoe is on the other foot, do you?
Really.....@ Mike K348891?? Assault? Because he "glittered him to death". If that should constitute assault so should someone's child throwing a ball of paper at another child. Suspend them and make them do community service too. I'm not right or left wing but at some point you have to draw the line somewhere. I'm not condoning his actions...but jail...really...for glitter. Let's get our coffee, wake up and join the rest of reality.
@thedeandre2010
You not-so cleverly attempted to shift gears to children throwing things at each other.
We are talking about adults and we are talking about assault. You may not know what constitutes assault, but thankfully the law does. He should be jailed.
jimmy-1104097 said-
Uhhh, Jimmy, are you actually equating being shot in the head with being dusted in glitter?
And you're calling Sweetie an "idiot"?
Not a funny action. Kinda of gay if you really think about it. Who the hell pours glitter on someone.
Shows that even gays are haters even those with the left wing agenda.
But somehow this is okay in America now? It used to be civilized....now I don't know.
Divided we are. United we are not.
No, throwing glitter on someone while shouting a protest is not assault, but it is immature and does not help the perpetrator's cause. If anything, it makes the person that threw it look silly.
I don't like Gingrich's politics or admire his personal life, but what this confetti-sprinkler did is the same thing as the guy who threw the shoe at Bush (remember that?) or the man who shook hands with Gingrich this week and would not let go while he hurled insults. Have we still not moved beyond the days of throwing tomatoes and heads of lettuce?
Politics will always provoke angry feelings on both sides, but hey, all you grown-ups out there - can't we be better role models for our kids than this?
Actually, sweetie's comment prompts a few questions.
Obviously cow poo would be offensive enough to constitute assault. What about water? What if the water was very hot? Or very cold, as with ice cubes? What if the substance, whatever it was caused some material damage, such as destroying the books being signed? Or that clothing had to be dry cleaned ?(I'm sure this was the case with glitter). Or eye damage?
My opinion is that this act clearly WAS an assault, and the guy should have been arrested, the severity of the charges depending on the severity of damages as well as intent.
By not arresting him, it opens up the way for the next person to escalate the violence on another candidate.
Sweetie P,regarding post#2:
I don't know Sweetie, wouldn't that be redundant.
Showering sprinkles on a turd is almost like putting lipstick on a pig.
;)
littleboyblue,
Athough glitter does not harm anyone physically, let's face it ... no one can ever get rid of glitter ... I still see Christmas glitter occasionally in our carpet at home!
But, seriously, you are right ... if this immature protestor is not charged with something, this could open the way to some worse assault in the future.
to littleboyblue-
Oh, you mean escalate the violence like when Gabby got shot, right? Oh, and that was a Republican protest, since Jimmy wants to compare the glittering to Gabby being shot, let's do that, so Republicans protest=a Democrat being shot, and Democrats protest=a Republican getting glittered??? Seriously, there is no comparison, this isn't an assault, not even close. maybe if he'd thrown a brick and hospitalized Newt, this could be compared to an assault.
Maybe the left-wing needs a few more gun nuts to start showing the right-wingers what real assault is too. Throwing hissy-fits about glitter?!?! I'd have thrown alot worse at W. given half a chance. Maybe a grenade in his case. or better yet, a water-baloon grenade, filled with hydrochloric acid. Now, that would be a decent reminder to the Right what real assault looks like, and to someone that definantly deserves it, since our current leader wants to be as PC as possible and not bring him up on the charges he deserves.
littleboyblue, regarding post #2.20:
Oh my! ....... I didn't realize Glitter was so dangerous Littleboyboo-hoo.
Hmm ....... yes I agree.
They might break into a candidates home and decorate it with :
......................<<<<<<<<<<(((- Glitter -)))>>>>>>>>>>.......................
Oh my God .....the horror ... the horror, ....... they must arresst that terrorist!!!!
lol
:D
Hawaii2: "People cannot be "civil" when it comes to a difference of opinion"
You are correct, reference O'reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Savage et al. Their incivility come sthrough the airwaves a palpable HATE. In fact, how many times have you ever heard any of these "pundits" refer to Presdient Obama as "the President" or "President Obama"? I will answer my own question: almost NEVER- the slurs, racial and otherwise are thrown multiple times per minute in some cases. My wife likes to listen to right wing talk radio so we can understand where they are coimng from adn what the talking points of the day/week will be. I repaeat, ALMOST NEVER do any of those above mentioned "persons" refer to the President of the United States with any politeness or even use his real name. In fact, savage NEVER does, he only throws around words such as communist, socialist and much much worse.
"The normal guy has no such podium". Please stop being stupid. Ever hear if Michael Moore? David Letterman? NPR? Come on, for crying out loud!!!! Unless the commenter is also acknowledging the democrats care about the common people as much as Bin Laden liked the “west”.
And what about the mythical left-wing concept of tolerance and diversity? The left considers all ideas of being “equal”, so it even more hypocritical for them to denounce ANYTHING (if they were true to their values, they would go along with conservative values for the sake of preventing conflict, but where would that leave those of us in the center?)
It astounds me as to how you justify yours and others want for violence. The guy that shot Giffords was not some agent of the GOP, he was a mentally imbalanced individual who looked for an opportunity to vent his crazy. Unfortunately people died as a result. These two situations are in NO WAY even comparable on any level, and to draw correlations in any manner is just sick and demeaning to victims. You, good sir, should be ashamed.
As for this "glittering" it does constitute assault but the law does take into account severity of assault. He should recieve a punishment in accordance with the severity that "glittering" someone constitutes. The discourse for this discussion should be how to excercise our First Ammendmant rights PEACEFULLY. Do you think our founders would look approvingly on what this guy did? This is nothing more than a watered down 21st century version of tarring and feathering.
Everyone chill out and set aside your own crazy before we all get glittered :)
glitter=assault - WHAT??? I have an idea, pull your head out of your arse long enought to get some oxygen to your brain! The shooting of Gabby Giffords was not a political statement. It was an act of violence perpetrated by a seriously mentaly disturbed young man. It was an attempted murder on Giffords and a murder of others including a 9 year old girl. The actions of this glitter thrower should in no way ever be compared to the acts of violence that took place in AZ. And you and the others who do try to compare them must be running around with the mental capacity of a turnip.
As for your rant against W., He did nothing that we as a nation did not let him do. Did you see any mass protests like those in Tunisia or Egypt? Didn't OUR elected officials pass his bills and give him the authority to do the things he did? YES!!! So quit trying to make invalid comparrisons, and accept the fact that the blaime lands squarely on OUR shoulders. Thats right, we, as a nation are responsible, not one man.
to glitter = assault:
You are not seriously calling Gabby getting shot a Republican protest, are you? That was one one mentally ill persion who was ostensibly offended when she snubbed him at one of her town meetings at his college. He was NOT a Republican. In fact, he was a former supporter. I, and a great many other Republicans mourned her shooting and rejoiced in the swiftness of her recovery. Party lines have nothing to do with genuine tragedy. So, please do NOT go there.
It was an action by someone on the right that saw the political ads with the crosshairs on Democratic states and took the message of it literally to go and assault one of these politicians. I'm responding to these other idiotic arguments by littleboyblue and Jimmy trying to compare throwing glitter to an actual assault, that did take place, and it was politically inspired at the very least, if not politically motivated, so would it be considered a political protest? Google "define political protest" and:
Web definitions
It seems to fit that description to me. Mentally disturbed or not, he was making an overt reaction to those campaign ads.
And I wish we had rioted against W. when he decided we would go to war with Iraq, in full opposition of the U.N.s decision against it. He lied to us, and the ignorant fools that are the majority of our country ate it up like cattle going to the slaughter house. At that time, they polled people and something over 75% of the general public believed that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. I wished somebody would stand up to him back then and question his right to be commander in chief when he decided to invade Iraq before we had even caught Bin Laden! But unfortunantly our fat, lazy majority don't care about our political climate enough to do anything about it like the rest of the world.
Comment # 2 restored for clarity.
common sense
You pose an interesting question. So I asked a couple of Gay People I know how they would feel, here is their paraphrased response.
"If people would stop calling us faggot or pervert, stop telling us we deserve to die or that God wants us dead, and they stopped trying beat us up or drag us behind a truck but threw glitter at us instead. How would we feel? We would be f**king deliriously happy, that's how we would feel".
The hypocritical bastard deserves it all!
Since there are plenty of hypocritical bastards on the left as well, I guess this means open season, huh? Anyone know where Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank are going to be the next few days?
Most likely in a different time period than yours !!!
amen to that one pbdoo1-2691725 , maybe someone will dump coal ash on them lol ,
time period? you mean time zone unless they are in the future or died thousands of years ago
Hypocritical? Hmmm, I don't think so. Although I think the protester was wrong, it was much much milder than tea party crazies stomping a liberal woman's head at a Rand Paul event.
Hypocrisy tends to lean right when it comes to American politics.
I would contend that the Right has been "tossing BS" on President Obama since he announced his candidancy, Mr. IntheMiddle, TX (is that you, George Jr.?)
Right hasn't had to. President Obama's shovel has been full of socialist "BS" since he walked in the front door. Mr. Gingrich is not any better.
Socialist BS versus the better form of living... greedy Capitalism? lol. Moronic comment. You are another brainwashed American that corporations love!
Obama may not be a Republican but he is just another corporate paid stooge like every president from either party since at least Reagan. Wake up and smell your roasted coffee. Corporations peed in it.
Go on consuming, voting for corporate stooges and getting poorer as the top 1% get richer. You'll be complaining soon enough.
mhoff: I love liberals like you who will buy a computer....made by a corporation, pay a monthly fee to an ISP.......set-up by a corporation, and use a free blog like this.....provided by a corporation.....so they can bitch about corporations.
in all honesty, let's be serious. this has nothing to do with assault. it's a simple lapse in judgment. was it wrong? Yes. Jail time? No. We can sit here and play the "what if" game all day. "What if he had a gun"...but he didn't. "What if it were the president"...well it wasn't. The problem with our country is that no one is willing to meet in the middle. It's a sad mentality where it's "my way or no way". Everyone is so divided about little things that the bigger picture gets blurred. You can't get mad at the House or Senate for not getting anything done when WE THE PEOPLE won't even stand up and tell them to stop the bullcrap and take care of business instead of just trying to play along party lines.
theandre2010's comment out of all the comments thus far, makes the most sense. No one was harmed in this "glittering" incident (small picture). We, the people of the U.S. contineu to be too politically divided and we tend not to see or voice our opinions where the big picture comes in (glitter-thrower may have some problems voicing his political views; Mr. Gingrich has had a controversial political past). Sort of on the same note, I continue to be amazed at the "birther" movement. People like Donald Trump want to continue to drag their "issue" ad nauseum, for example. Let's not be so naive (duhhh): black president has been checked out from the "rooter-to-the tooter" , as in racial profiling BEFORE being inaugurated. Crap like this continues to divide us and blurs our focus on the BIG PICTURE.
I don't know how the majority of the gay community views this, but is this not an embarrassment for them instead of a victory of some kind? No offense meant, but is not glitter kind of a silly and gay stereo-type thing?
Seems there would have been some other more dignified way to make a statement of protest.
I just LOVE elections.
All I can say is.....THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. Although I remember it being the GOP, in the last election? The next 1 1/2 years are going to be sooooooo, amusing!
Think OLE "NEWT", got the Message?....LOL
Like most, it is apparent that you did not get the message.
Hey Conservative Not Republican - cannot the argument be made - the liberal is consuming what the corporations produce. So who is benefitting from whom? The answer, no matter which side you try to spin it from is: Both. Show me one society that has never paid taxes. Our taxation needs to be fair, level-headed, and in congruence with the amount of the total GNP and money supply. Remember, the money supply is a paper #,nothing else. Consequently, the Gov spending will always be a percentage of that, nothing else. As soon as you cut spending, you are taking income from some consumer. Often times, a conservative. Because if you don't think there are a lot of rich, conservative, corporate-types, that aren't doing business with the government and the tax dollars of libs and cons alike, I have some nice property in the Everglades I can sell ya. FLUCTUATING TAX levels, based upon this 4 year ritual of everyone trying to get thier "labeled" guy in the White House, is what is truly hurting us. Show me one candidate who says, I am neither a lib or a con, but everyone needs to support a 40% tax rate, and the spending will be divvyed accordingly from that. That is the guy I will vote for. I don't care if it's a woman, a Hmong, a gay person, or a highly decorated war veteran. What I want to see stop is all of the "flag-waving,patriotic,family values crap. AND all of the socialist, lib- bashing, and con-bashing crap" I don't like having to spend a lot of the money I do (gas, heating, everyday food, taxes, rent, etc.), but it goes with the territory of being privileged to live in the greatest social system ever devised by men. And as for the "freebie" issue of welfare, there are ways to end the giveaways, by basically forcing people to work for that money. They'll then be educated about reality, and either continue living a substandard life or they will chose to better themselves. You see, I am not against helping anyone who needs it, but I could never live the way they do, so I chose and work not to. But, having said that, welfare amounts to .03 of every federal dollar. Microsoft and the computer industry does more federal business than the whole welfare/food stamp program combined. So again, which liberals and conservatives are benefitting which liberals and conservatives? When did we ever stop being brothers and sisters and countryman?
I hope the homosexuals get the treatment they need.
Clearly they have a mental defect.
And like the polygamists, and pedophiles, they just want everyone else to accept them as normal.
Perhaps one day in the future, we will be able to isolate the effected areas of their minds and solve their problems through surgery.
Until then, we need to understand that they cannot control their actions, and shouldn't be treated differently because of their mental problems.
To mnmule, well done!
I'm a democrat and certainly not a Gingrich supporter, but this was assault. Anyone saying otherwise because it happened to the "other team" would be shouting a different story if this happened to them. You don't necessarily know what's being thrown at you until it hits. Is that water or acid, confetti or thumbtacks? Shoes, pies, paint - where does it end?
Agree. Liberal Dem here & I say it's not right. HOWEVER, way tamer than when tea party thugs stomped a woman's head at a Rand Paul event.
Where does it end indeed.
mnmule: The point is no one is forcing him to consume anything. The hypocrisy of his statement in light of his own corporate usage is stunning. If he / she hates corporations so much. Just quit using them. No one says you have to have a computer (many Americans get along just fine without one you know) so his using a computer, ISP and this blog is totally unnecessary in light of his stance on corporations.
I'm just asking him to stand up for the courage of his convictions.
By the way, when you say you want 40% taxation, you do mean that you want "everyone" to pay that, regardless of what they earn don't you??
I mean fair is fair after all.
And you did say "everyone", so I assume you mean just that...."everyone".
I am pretty sure that a charge of assault requires a threat of some kind of harm or threat that would endanger the victim. I don't think a confetti shower would qualify.
Actually, it could. You can fart at someone and it can be considered assault. Most people would not bother pressing charges for something like that though.
perhaps certain mothers would consider a fart sufficient to constitute an assault, and there are a few old farts who are assaults just by being around too long. For instance, a certain former Speaker of the House who cannot accept how discredited he has made himself and now thinks he could be POTUS. I mean how far can stupid analogies be stretched?
It wouldn't be considered assault. I am sure they can trump up about 5-6 other charges on him though.
Yes, it would be assault. Imagine getting that stuff in your eyes or inhaling a bunch of it. It could potentially cause harm to a person.
If throwing a glass of water in someone's face is assault, I'm sure this would be assault too.
He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Neutered has long been accepting donations of MILLIONS of Dollars over the past several years from conservatives and known mafia right-wing donors that he has given to STOP gay rights. He has been condemning Gays and Lesbians for 20 years. If you would all stop condemning the young man and read more and do some research you will find that Gingrich gave over $350,000.00 over the past year to right-wing HATE GROUPS that specifically Target Gay Rights groups and Gay Groups wanting gay marriage. This is not assault and battery and the young man was smart enough to realize that, so stop your stupid comments, especially those that say he should have been tackled and handcuffed. It wasn't a gun or a knife, you sound like a moron saying to tackle and cuff him. Remember the Paul campaign in Kentucky when the poor woman was thrown to the ground and a 275 pound 6'4" man stomped on her face. That was assault and batter and he should be put in jail. Gingrich deserves much more than glitter for all the Hate, Bigotry and Ignorance he has spread and helped spread to make ignorant morons harm and harass gays and lesbians. It's a matter of human rights and freedom, not against your tired and lame morals of what you think a person should be. Why don't you stop and think about this young man as your son and think about how he feels and his friends and his mom and dad. Maybe if you weren't a bunch of homophobic Bigots you would try to understand him instead of staning up for an old, Fat, Fart who is on his 3rd wife, and who he had an affair with while still with his 2nd wife. I guess you also forget that Neutered was having an affair with the woman that would become his 2nd wife while he was still married to his first wife and she was in the hospital. You seem to leave these facts out in your bigotry and hatred.
the only legal requirement for assault to become a criminal act is a perceived threat. If someone walks up to a public leader reaches into a bag and throws a substance on them; this is not only assault, it's assault and battery. If this guy was anything other than a gay activist, and what if the bag contained chemicals or biological agents? I would fire my security manager, especially after what happend to Giffords. The police should arrest the "activist" for disturbing the peace at a minimum.
Actually, an assault can be verbal only and doesn't have to constitute a threat. Assault and battery only requires the addition of any unwanted touching or causing unwanted touching (in this case, throwing confettie which then touched Gingrich) by one person upon another. At least that is the statute in Michigan. Each state will vary.
One fleck of this stuff in YOUR EYE, and YOU would be seeing the world, one dimensionally. Sen Carl Levin got a pie in the face, here in Mich, and as libertarian as I am, I wanted every weight possible dropped on her sorry ass. All she got was probation, and he got hit with an object. Everything that happens to others, especially if you don't care for them is always real funny, until it might happen to you or yours. Then, NOT SO MUCH. Since Do No Harm is a personal vow I've made, unless I am in self defense mode,This DEE BAG would have been Really Hurt,in my presence, and NO, Band-aids ain't a cure. Oh, does anyone know if he threw it like a GIRL?
@KayEllen
You may be pretty sure, but your wrong. Spitting on someone doesn't kill or hurt them. It still constitutes an assault though.
I will add though that this is an iffy video after watching it a few times. It looks as if he makes an attempt to keep it away from Mr. Gingrich. So he may be in the clear.
joesmoe2098049- That's a lot of detail for someone with a message of acceptance. How does that help things, really?
Kay, assault is the act of possible endangerment, Assault and Battery is the actual act of contact. This would fall directly into the 'assault' catagory. Of course, I think that it is now ok to throw bibles at gays? or consitutional papers at 1st ammendment activists. or...get the picture? where does anyone draw the line of decency in this country now?
This was neither. The gentleman simply used another way to put lipstick on a hog. Of course, notwithstanding Mrs Gingrich.
Marty, that was an extremely ignorant description for assault when you said " I think that it is now ok to throw bibles at gays? or consitutional papers at 1st ammendment activists." You're just promoting violence against gays and other protestors. If you were going to use an example why didn't you use one such as throw a bible at right-wing conservatives or something along those lines. It's very easy for a 14 year old to see the comments in this section and throughout of those that are against gays and hate gays even though they don't come out and say it, but it's implied. If you look at the picture everyone you see that all the glitter is sprinkled on the desk in front of Gingrich and none is on his wife as you can see she is still signing a book. People here didn't look at the photos as much as just read the story and assumed it was completely accurate. Imagine if you were that young man and had been harassed and perhaps spit on, slammed into lockers, kicked, hit or beat up and embarrassed and also what his mom and dad and the rest of his family had to go through. You all seem to pass judgement on him, but you don't think of his feelings. The idiot "Triangular Freedom" shows his ignorance and hatred and prejudice by saying "the DEE-Bag would have been really hurt and then he asks if the guy threw it like a girl." That's really some open minded intelligent talk isn't it? He's harassing and criticizing the young man and making fun of him right there. Truly another ignorant hateful bigot!!!!
So now we are defending the guy who threw confetti?
Really?
I know liberal's are wacky in the head, but this is how it's suppossed to be?
So when a conservative does this to Obama, Reid, Pelosi, or Huffington - you are going to say it's OK?
We know you liberals hate the US, and have no concept of decency, but this is not the way to promote your political positions.
You are the one that is wacky. You're just promoting violence against gays and other protesters. If you were going to use an example why didn't you use one such as throw a bible at right-wing conservatives or something along those lines. It's very easy for a 14 year old to see the comments in this section and throughout of those that are against gays and hate gays even though they don't come out and say it, but it's implied. "You can't go tossing BS on people just because you don't like their politics," yet strangely that is precisely what Newt does. Newt dumps BS on his constituents just because of politics. The Fox News Channel has just announced their foray into episodic television with a retread of "Flipper" starring....Newt Gingrich. Based on Newt's history, both long ago and recent, this new Fox series will have material until the year 2018. At least this new show will be based in truth!
Poor, baby, wimpy Republicans. They can repeal the rights of the gays away, but the moment they're confronted, they behave like exposed bedbugs.
Problem is that Democrats preach tolerance when they're not in control, and practice intolerance when they are in control. If someone did this to Pelosi or Reid, it would have been labeled the crime of the century. BS goes on both on sides of the aisle. Talk about bedbugs.
@Independent-3458629-That was a completely baseless and typically moronic Republican brainwashed comment. Well done.
How Lyrical. Metaphor is not physical assault, and you obviously got a problem with opposing points of view. By stating this asinine bilge, you basically admit you flunked or never took Basic Logic,or Objectivity. Do the ads on MSNBC ever offer refreshers on anything like that? You know," Deep Thoughts BY Rachael,Chris and Keith."
Independent-3458629 Your comment was not baseless but right on target. mhoffman-129's comment was baseless ... slinging insults because a Republican has an opinion. Typical.
@mhoffman-129- Your repsonse to 'Independent' was a completely baseless and typically moronic Liberal brainwashed comment. Well done.
Did you miss the spitting and racial slurs being yelled at congress members as they approached the capitol during the HCR vote?
That being said - the jerk that threw glitter at them did nothing to further his cause and looks like an idiot. He got the attention he wanted - but he looked stupid doing it.
Hold up signs - protest - do what you want but you dont have the right to do crap like this.
Triangular....if you are Republican, you flunked "Logic 101". AND sleeped through Ethics
Aww a little glitter. Maybe a shoe would have been more appropriate. Newt is done anyway. NEXT!
Ya' might as well throw some glitter cause Newt's campaign is in the sh***er!
Good point Greg ... this may be the only glitter his campaign staff sees.
He was not assaulting "The Newt" he was just decorating him!
Actually I think Newt deserves it, but I cannot agree with it...there are other ways, never invade a persons physical space.
Talk about a contradiction in terms. You think he deserves it, but you dont' agree with it. You can't have it both ways. Many think it is funny. I wonder how they would have felt if it was a dangerous chemical that was thrown on him and his wife. It would appear that the liberal party has not only become the part of hate, but the party of destruction.
I don't mind protesting when it is legal but this is just wrong to throw stuff at people and make the cause the person is representing look like hooligans. I hope this guy gets charged with battery or disturbing the peace. Represent your cause more professionally and you will get recognized respectfully and not seen as a joke.
Is that the same as when people throw tomatoes or rotten eggs on speakers?
I just can't help myself.
Jtoon: "Represent your cause more professionally and you will get recognized respectfully and not seen as a joke."
Do you mean like Donald Trump - before he decided he didn't want folks to have access to his money records and QUIT (kind of like Sarah Palin). There are a lot of folks with egg all over their faces by being taken in by a scammer - otherwise known as Donald Trump!
Surprising that Newt's day in the sun appears to be a brief one!
Oh please - from the Nancy "Nazi" claims to King Harry not allowing votes, to the disgusting, weak minded non-stop attacks on Bush for 8 years - you animals taught the right 1,000's of new ways of being mindless, insolent children.
I'm guessing that Newt Gingrich should probably represent his cause more professionally and try to get recognized respectfully, because right now he is the biggest joke around. So he converted to Catholicism, in order to pick up those voters, and with his dog-whistles to the fundamentalists, he figures on locking in both those groups. Is there anybody sleazier in politics right now? Newt, a better man than you (Mike Huckabee) has left the race. Do you still have the gall to present yourself as a patriotic adulterer and a viable candidate, when even fellow Republicans (and the Wall Street Journal) have come down on you?
So how does Trump or Palin come into the equation of someone throwing stuff at a person as part of a protest?
@jtoon. Trump and Palin have been throwing crap at others since they've been on the national scene.
And PAULF is living breathing proof of his own proposition. I cannot find a coherent truth in his entire posting.
like when Rush played that song "Barrack the magic negro", a definite assault on the president of the United States.
Well Said!
There is something different than a verbal action and a physical action by the way.
Go insane, go insane, throw some glitta', make it rain....
Does the man dumping the glitter hate Gingerich as he is saying "stop the hate"?
In the blurb above, it states that the man said, "stop the hate" and "feel the rainbow," an apparent nod to gay rights. Seriously, don't just look at the pretty pictures...if you'd done a little reading, you wouldn't have had to post your question. Newt is homophobic and therefore another reason to protest his candidacy.
No, he doesn't hate the man, only what the man does.
Newt can be reformed with prayer, glitter, a limit on his credit cards, some cosmetic surgery ala The Joker, and a heart transplant.
It will be a fresh start for Newt, since he never had a heart before.
Hating haters is noble and not the same thing as the one who originated the hate.
And before you know it we forget who the "original hater" was as the hate gets passed back and forth. Each side convinced the other started it and is to blame.
Name JUST ONE great person who stooped to the level of those he or she opposed.
Actually such tricks and bits of street theater are too clever to be statements of hate. Powdered sugar would have done more damage.
I hate what breeders do: make kids for others to have to pay for; then act like they are holier than thou.
A guy comes up and dumps glitter on someone he appears to presumably hate, and demands his victim to stop the hate. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black....
Independent-3458629
Actually, there's a big difference. Newt has been guilty of race-baiting, including his birther comments, which included derogatory insinuations regarding Kenyans, as well as his "WTC" mosque comments which were inflamatory and racially charged mischaracterizations. Newt has a podium with the ability to reach millions at the drop of a hat. When he says these things, they foster hate in the people who listen to him.
On the other hand, the glitter-guy is just some poor schmuck who wants Newt to stop the antagonistic rhetoric, and so he makes a weak and harmless public statement, that no doubt will have greater consequiences for him than it does Newt. In fact the only thing the glitter-guy has succeeded at doing is to provide ammunition for gay-bashers, as can be seen throughout this thread.
Newt will trash an entire culture to get your vote. The glitter guy is just unhappy with Newt.
They are not the same at all.
To F2Murphy: If I am homophobic, what of it? If I take a stand, and advocate ONLY in the Marketplace of Ideas, like minded people ally and others do not. Terms like homophobic and racist are no different than teaching soldiers in time of war to hate THEIR enemy by dehumanizing them, which is EXACTLY what this infantile exercise is. Then, all who agree with the term 'du jour' falsely believe that THIS is success. Mental Wet Dreams are not success, only a delusion, and it is DELUDED you are. Want to generate acceptance? Stop playing to your audience and act like a human being.
Strick9 your mom was a breeder. I guess she should have aborted.
@homophobes
There is no difference between denying rights to gay people and the denial of rights to people based on their skin color or sex. Are you just like your ignorant forefathers who wanted to deny women or blacks the right to vote, marry outside of their skin color, drink from the same fountain, eat at the same restaurant or go to the same school?
To actually try to get laws put in place to deny rights to any group shows that you're trying to repeat history and haven't learned a thing. Go Hitler wanna-bees, you do your hate groups proud. Make sure you salute Adolf Gingrich and his SS properly or you may be next.
This country was founded on law not religion. People fled their countries for freedom of religion which is allowed here by law. When religion dictates law you end up just like the countries run by Sharia, Muslim law.
Oh, it's ok to kill them, they're not Muslim, they're infidels. Sounds like the beginning of Christianity with a twist. Yes I know, Christians at least tried to convert you before they killed you. We're not far from slipping into the past and becoming like the Muslim countries that will never know peace.
marinmom: A "hater" is defined as someone who disagrees with your ideas & values. Never deceive your self into believing anything different.
Ironically we often want the save outcome. But we have become so polarized we often forget that.
The problem is we have "evolved" into a intolerant, selfish, immoral culture. I think it is sort of funny that conservatives think they can somehow stop the direction we are heading. It is equally amusing that liberals think that somehow it will result in a safer, more prosperous society.
It would appear he is no better than the rest of the haters.
stevenx, where did you get that definition. by it, everyone is. truth is that some vile derrogatory action is necessary before hate is apparent. firrppp
If the protester had removed a jacket to reveal a T-shirt and snuck a photo of Him & The Newt, I would have been impressed. But glitter....GLITTER? There's plenty of ways to get your point across, but.... GLITTER?!?! (here's yer sign)
Well, you gotta admit, glitter is pretty gay.
No, Rock Hudson was gay.... Glitter is .... silly.
Rock Hudson was gay but appeared manly. Glitter looks silly but is really gay.
Sorry guys, but these last three comments fall into the category of gay-bashing.
No, gay bashing is physical assault. This is commonly called exaggeration, ridicule,or at worst, stereotyping. What is SORRY is that you ,along with some others on this line, mix terms to suit your argument, and attempt to pontificate to all others. Acceptance comes from example, not demagoguery and doing whatever in hell You call it. Your example defeats your intended purpose, and in fact defeats same. Just thoughts on a rainy Wednesday.
Triangular, I don't think any logical person would classify gay bashing as being ONLY physical assault.
I'm not entirely comfortable with the gay lifestyle but I recognize that there have been gay people since the beginning of people. They have existed throughout time and in every region of the world and in numbers too big to ignore. I also recognize the contribution made to society by gay people. Even the redneckyest redneck rocks out to Elton John and Queen.
You can not ignore these people and pretend they do not have a right to exist.
Well then I guess being gay really does suck?
How fun! I love the whole idea!
They don't have yer kind in OKC, there, Mark! lol! Ok, glitter is fine for a little girls TEA PARTY, but it IS a mess to clean up!
Well, Newt.....I suppose this just proves that "all that glitters isn't gold." (even if the gold is from Tiffany's)
Really, He's real damn lucky he didn't get what Gabby Giffords got!
Low
Didn't mean it that way, but it is something that should be in the back of every public figure's mind after the AZ incident.
It's scary out there today!! One nutball is all it takes.
And there it is - Greg brings out the real motives of the angry left - so Newt is damn lucky he didn't get shot? Really?
Yeah. Newt is lucky all he got was glittered on. It could have been much worse. Luckily, most liberals aren't like the psycho republican right.
That is the most stupid and uncalled for comment on this site so far and there have been plenty!
That is the most stupid and uncalled for comment on this site so far - and there have been some really stupid comments!
Gimme a friggin break. Scary? Because once in a blue moon some nut goes off? Even an a-hole like Gingrich has more to fear when he crosses the street. Try to get some perspective and stop listening to the fear mongers. Think for yourself.
marinmom
Yeah. Newt is lucky all he got was glittered on. It could have been much worse. Luckily, most liberals aren't like the psycho republican right.
I hate to disappoint you, but Giffords was shot by a Liberal, not a Republican. Most of the psychotic stuff going on these days is done by the Democrats.
@-Matt-343495-Most of the moronic comments going on these days are made by brain washed Republican citizens. I hate to disappoint you but, Giffords was shot by a person who was mentally unstable, therefore he HAD to be Republican.
Good one, mhoffman-129, good one!
My visits to this site are very infrequent, now I know why!!
Oh it was soo good hyuk hyuk hyuk.WOW
I agree with Naomi....One stupid comment, encouraged by another. All in the name of "MY POLITICAL VIEWPOINT IS SUPERIOR TO YOURS"...wingnuts
Now HERE is a Real A--Hole from my home area (south central oakland cty.) Real liberals don't use guns and are afraid of same,so what would he do?, buy one and throw it at Newt? Like a Girl? ("TAKE THAAAT!") Kill him the old fashioned gay way, and slip him some Amyl Nitrate ("poppers"). THAT'LL FIX HIM!
Triangular Freedom and or righties,
When buying a gun they don't ask you if you are a Liberal or not. Seriously. Conservatives: I wouldn't bank on Liberals being unarmed. That's all I'm going to say on that one.
The Giffords guy sounded a lot more like a connie to me.
I have been to anti-war rallies where we have had connies lean out of their car window and shriek at the top of their lungs with purple veins popping out of their neck. I had one guy "bump" me in a left turn lane, and another lady pound her horn for about 30 seconds behind me screaming "No, No, No!!!" when she read my Obama bumper sticker. Had another guy in a Ford pickup pulling a trailer try to run me off the road, right after he rolled down his window and called me an "Obama Faggot".
Got another guy in a dark blue Chevy Blazer with two Marine Corps stickers in his back window. Michigan licence plate number BGE-0178. We drive the same route to and from work. He gets behind me, leans on his horn, flashes his brights and flips me off. He does this every time we chance to meet on the road. Does everything but bump me. So far..........
If one of these people tries to confront me with a weapon do you honestly think I'm going to sing Kumbaya with em? Seriously?
I am too well acquainted with connie "passion", and I know how to deal with it. Trust me.
I hope no further violence befalls any other politician, or public official,...either party.
Violence, like adultery and many other human reactions/responses are not limited to one particular political party
I believe in recycling-not old washed up politicians though..like the Newt..he was a hypocrite by censoring CLINTON WHILE adulterating with his girlfriend..just like Ensign..oh and like the "Adulterator"-arnold..if Obama did this he would be hung..but Arnold can have a love child with the help..like the "massa" of the old south..disgusting..
You're funny - it's ok to cheat on your wife, at work, in the office, but if you're a hypocrite, well that's just wrong!
I bet Obama is hung. Unlike Newt. I bet Newt's hung like a newt.
This thing with Arnold just broke. Give it a day or two for the jackals to start nipping at his heals.
First of all, Newt didn't impeach Clinton, Clinton impeached Clinton when he lied before a grand jury..
paulf, if you don't know what's wrong with being a hypocrite, most of the rest of us know why you don't.
Wow Marinmom that was really well thought and very intelligent....I think I'll vote Dem from now on....you've convinced me
ahh Bob, you may have missed Paul's point....He didn't say he didn't know what was wrong with being a hypocrite....
If any of you think it is O.K. to do something like this to anyone...Rep. or Dem. you have some other things to think about...You might think it's OK to infringe on someone's rights, butI wonder how loud you will yell when the rights trampled are yours. I will not compare dumping glitter to shooting someone, but the fact remains that the man could have done much more than dumo glitter and left unchecked may do somethign worse next time as he is encouraged by his "success" if you will
I'm pretty sure this protester was upset because Newt doesn't care about his rights and he wasn't being heard. I'm sure Pugpower cries like a little girl whenever HIS rights are infringed upon.
No marinsmom I generally stand up and do something about it, however I suppose if someone dumped glitter on me and I dropped him in his shoes, I would probably be arrested for assault. Once again you prove that while you are capable of slinging insults, you are not very capable of presenting an argument. Please stop bringing a butter knife to the swordfight madam...you are embarrassing yourself. Now continue to communicate as you have so far by flinging a few more childish insults about someone "crying like a little girl"...The fact of the matter is that many of us are very unhappy when are rights are violated by people like you...the Pelosi loving left. How intolerant you are when YOUR opinion is not shared by others!
Kathy, John Edwards enough said
So, conservatives are OK with water-boarding, but draw the line at glitter?
ok with waterboarding terrorist who have killed or helped kill Americans...YEP you bet
Ok, so Newt's a scumbag to women. AND he broke some rules, paid a huge fine, and lost his job..... BUT, HEY! That was the roaring 90's!
Replace Newt with Clinton and the statement remains true. Replace with every Kennedy and replace the timeframe and the point is even more true
Dumping manure on that scumbag would have been more appropriate!
oh hell suck it up! life is full of pleasant surprises!
8-D
How creative and non-violent! Thanks for making a celebrative statement for gay rights!
As far as I'm concerned, the celebration extends way beyond gay rights. Maybe it took someone who is gay to think up a non-violent and quite humorous means of protest. It just isn't something your basic thug would think of, so all the basic thugs are trying to figure out how it was an evil act.
So how about we throw glitter on all the gay people we know and see how the feel about it. I'm fairly certain that no matter how much some of my gay friends like glitter they would still be pissed. Get reall people...... free speach. This a$$ clown took it one step too far.
You do not throw ANYTHING on or at a potential candidate for the Presidency of the U.S. I do not like Newt either but this is getting out of control. Next it will be a bomb. Prosecute this piece of trash and take him off the streets.
For glittering him?
The problem with our country is not that this sleazeball was glittered. It is that people such as yourself can actually refer to this slime as a potential presidential candidate. He is not presidential material by virtue of his complete lack of any moral values, and his hypocrisy in pointing out the faults of others while he himself was engaged in serial adultery.
That's it parade the horrors so you can equate this with Giffords and make them both the same. It's a frightfully sociopathic tactic -- like the equating of W's military record with Kerry's, both "contoversial". And to think you people rant on about 'morality'. Fudge.
"You do not throw ANYTHING on or at a potential candidate for the Presidency of the U.S. I do not like Newt either but this is getting out of control. Next it will be a bomb. Prosecute this piece of trash and take him off the streets"
Next it will be a bomb? lol. Seriously? Wow. The human race really is getting dumber. He's a piece of trash that should be prosecuted for....glittering someone? Please show me where there's a law that makes it a felony to glitter someone. lol. Too funny. Maybe some community service such as...sweeping up the glitter? That would be fair I think.
You are an IDIOT!
So because all of you think Newt is a slimeball, that makes it OK to do something to him. Well don't look in the libby slimeball closet with Pelosi, Clinton, Barney Frank, the Kennedys etc. If being a slimeball would make it legal to do "something" to people, the Dems would have a few people being "glittered as well. And to think a bunch of these prior posts are calling other people idiots...WOW...
"Next it will be a bomb? lol. Seriously? Wow. The human race really is getting dumber. He's a piece of trash that should be prosecuted for....glittering someone? Please show me where there's a law that makes it a felony to glitter someone. lol. Too funny. Maybe some community service such as...sweeping up the glitter? That would be fair I think."
So I can just walk around town and dump ketchup on random people? I can go around and pour water on whoever I want? I can spray random people in the face with silly string whenever I want without consequence?
These are instigative acts. Same as what this guy did.
And I'm all for gay rights. I'm not for calling homosexual civil unions "marriage" because it's not. The problem is the extremism on these issues. Instead of protecting the sanctity of marriage, our political and cultural leaders would rather attack homosexuality. By doing the latter, you leave the former open to degridation. Instead of respecting the wants and needs of BOTH sides of the issue... it's all or nothing and in the end, equal rights trump personal beliefs in this secular society. We're heading towards equal rights for homosexuals. Unfortunately, now we're heading towards degrading an institution that means something very specific to a lot of people as well. An unfortunate casualty to this culture war. One side has to win right?
The irony of the whole situation is that tax benefits to "married couples" were originally aimed at promoting the rearing of children and contributing to the future of our society. Providing a home for them, giving extra money to help offset the costs, etc. etc. was all about our nations kids. Since so many abused the system... people forgot that.
Just another example of how populous thinking should not dictate society without being kept in check. Our founding fathers warned us of the tyranny of the majority... and you see this very demon playing out in every election.

That guy better watch out, Newt will divorce his wife AGAIN and then try to marry him when he campains in Iowa.
Poor Newt! Poor his third wife, who was cheating with him while he was still married to his second wife and was persecuting President Clinton for his adultery! To be assaulted by glitter! Good for this guy who did it. To be portrayed as "immoral" by people as trashy as Gingrich and his THIRD wife is intolerable. Newt's a slut. That's the truth.
Right on, Pattie.
Amen.
Jesus said your forgiven go and sin no more
What a creative and celebrative way to make a point! Thanks brother...great protest!
Yes & now Gingrich's new nick-name will be "Twinkles?"
Well, technically, it may be an assault (or even a battery) but can you just IMAGINE what it would do to his image to PURSUE filing charges? EEEEWWW I got GLITTERED!
It's neither.
Well, actually legally it is both. An assault is an attempt to commit a battery. A battery is any unconsented to touching of one person by another, or by an instrumentality controlled by the other (in this case the instrumentality being the glitter.) But, the political blow back of pursuing such an action would be the nail in the coffin for this candidacy.
And we wonder why it's hard to get the best and brightest to run for office.... I suppose this also helps the cause of democracy. Give people freedom and they'll behave and choose rationally....Riiiight....
I usually don't like sarcasm but, in this case, I think it efficiently presents the points to be considered. Forget the constitution, perhaps the onus is on the US public to prove they have the maturity to be a democracy, forgetting for a second that other forms of government would likely fail worse because of the sinfulness of man and the corruption that power tempts.
If you think Newt is the best and the brightest I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you.
mm, so you think it was an assault and that the point of JST's comment is that newty is among the best and brightest? I think you need to read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and stop reading cookbooks.
You seriously still believe the federal branch of your government is still a democracy JST? lol
The post said "YOU WONDER WHY IT'S HARD TO GET THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST TO RUN FOR OFFICE... NOT that the person thought Newt was the best and brightest...At least reading cookbooks teaches you to actually READ...what are you readin Marinmom and Bob because your response to the post proves you didn't actually READ the post...
I read it and comprehended it just fine, Pugly.
nice ladylike point moronsmom...I'll join you in the lefty insult contest but I bet moron is quite lucky to have been reared by you. I think Pugs are attractive by the way. Do us all a favor and try to do something besides sling a few 2nd grade insults. Ever heard of logic? Do you have a point when you post or are you just sitting around criticizing those who have a point? Very original on the brigde comment as well, you are quite the thinker there little lady.LOL
No security people to ask what he had in mind for the glitter? I mean even TSA checks babies diapers to see if they're trying to smuggle anything past them.
Looks like Newt has a smile on his face so it couldn't have been TOO bad. or is it a grimace?
Newt can't distinguish between a smile and a grimmace. Not that unusual even on this site.
Yeah, how can you tell on a reptile?
Gingrich should thank that it was glitter, not some dirty, smelly thing from the gutter, which is characteristic of most of his public and private speeches and behaviors. Job well done!
Looks like Gingrich got both.
