I have to say, that I stumbled upon this site today rather randomly and for the first time. And Yes, while there are the usual trolls and haters here present, I am gratefully surprised to find people like yourself, who are even tempered, articulate and moderate in their views and expressions. Adults basically! I had genuinely begun to fear that there were none left. Even though I am considered a "liberal" by comparison to the lunatic fringe, I'm not so sure that that is necessarily true. Though it is very difficult to tell, seeing as how there are NO moderate Republican representatives, willing to put the majority above pandering to the insanity.

The nut jobs have always been there. We just didn't give them a venue before.I fear that now we will find it difficult to wrest the podium back from them. Speaking in B-movie one liners, followed by a rapid decent into a personal attack and calling that debate, is something that most people outgrow by what, second, third grade? Yet we have tolerated it for years, since 9/11 and called it policy, why?

I've noticed that no-one talks about the American dream any more. Is it because while we were busy buying plastic sheeting and duct tape for our windows, (remember that?), or more recently, being felt up by the TSA, that it somehow turned into the American Nightmare?

adam, so if you are asking someone a question, and you get a response that is not even remotely related to it, along with the time limits that restrict what can be said on the air, you think it is rude to interrupt and restate the question.

He actually started off restrained, so either ms taitz had a language comprehension difficulty, or she was expecting to just rant on like she always does, and he put a stop to it. If she had answered the question, she actually may have been able to say what she was trying to say; though I think that her questions regarding his selective service form are irrelevant. I honestly wonder WHY anyone even brings her on the air anymore, or even gives Donald Trump the light of day, or even reports on the birther issue (on both sides).

This issue is stupid, I believe that the clause in the constitution itself is stupid (I find it sadly ironic that a country that was founded by immigrants, built by immigrants, has in its highest law of the land a clause that prevents an immigrant from even being eligible for the highest office of the land. Restricting dual citizens, non citizens, or people that have not spent a significant period of time in the US is reasonable. Preventing someone who through no choice of their own; that of the location of their birth; from being eligible for the job just goes to show how the US truly feels about immigrants. The clause was put in to prevent foreign monarchs etc... from becoming president, well guess what, the world has changed. From a world where just about every country was run by a monarch, there are only a handful left, and they are ceremonial rather than rulers. Time to amend the constitution to remove this anachronism)

Actually NEITHER one of Chester A. Arthur's parents were citizens. So even if Anne Dunham wasn't a citizen, Obama would still be eligible based on his birth in Hawaii because of that precedent.

People seem to equate Ivy League with exclusive based on academic qualifications. That isn't the case. Yes the Ivy League schools are generally very good schools, the term Ivy League refers only to an arrangement whereby one Ivy League school would not poach athletic players from another Ivy League school (I believe that this has been struck down under anti trust regulations however).

To be "fair and balanced," (which I don't believe anyone in media is) Lou, we must note that the $2 million spent were for ALL the legal fees regarding the presidency. I'm not a politician or even a PolySci major so I have no idea what they all are for. Also, the for certificate that was on the internet for "3 years", by Hawaii law that is the form that is given to its citizens at birth. The state keep the long form that people wanted to see but the state of Hawaii doesn't give that out.

The people that are convinced that this long form certificate will most likely never be convinced. Even if they do accept it, there are always more things to not believe about Obama.

To answer your question: The State of Hawaii does not ever release the original long form birth cirtificate. They made an exception this one time because of the circus this had become and have stated they will not do it again...AZ also does not release the long form as well, which is probably why the Governor vetoed that ridiculous bill about circumcision papers.

John McCain's birth records are probably overlooked because a) he is a white man b) the vitriol largely comes from the Republican party (look at how Clinton's National Guard service was an issue but Bush going AWOL from the National Guard wasn't) c) he was a military veteran that not only served in a military conflict, but was also a prisoner of war for years.

As for marginal educational qualifications, Bush was a very marginal student, not just on his entrance qualifications, but also his grades while he was a student. Nobody seemed to care about that.

It should also be noted that McCain was born in 1934 and the base didn't have a hospital until 1941, but it doesn't matter whether he was born on the base or in the town's hospital in Panama. His parents were US citizens, and that made him one.

The same is true of Obama. It doesn't matter where he was born! His mother was a US citizen, and it only takes one parent to be a citizen for the US citizenship to be automatic, as long as the US citizen parent lived in the US at least one year prior to the child's birth. (That changed to five years for those born after 1984, but neither McCain or Obama are affected by this change.)

And, by the way, the Constitution doesn't define 'natural born,' so the assumption that it has to be on US soil seems to be just that, an assumption.

This entire birther issue is now, and always has been, a madeup and artificial issue perpetuated by liars and idiots.

Actually Hoover did not have a starve the beast economic philosophy. He was a minimal interventionist however. He didn't deliberately cut taxes in order to force programs to be cut later. He did truly believe in taxing to the extent to what you pay for, he just didn't believe that the government should be there to correct the problems of free enterprise. It was also a different time, and in some ways, the lessons learned then are not applicable today, because the world is so different.

President Hoover may not have been a great president; I think he was just overwhelmed with what was at that time a unique situation with unique causes; but to lump him in with the clearly illogical bunch that are running the show now is unfair to him.

It is interesting to note that by the end of his term as president, Hoover was actually proposing very similar things that Roosevelt was. He changed his philosophy, but it was too little too late for his political life. Also interesting is that Hoover actually didn't lose a lot of respect among his peers, keeping extremely active in government life, pretty much until his death in the 60's.

This dopesn't make you a racist at all. This makes you a sensible person with a differing opinion.

However, the GOP does seem (whether true or false) to have a subtle racist persona. I'm not saying that Republicans are racist by any means, but that is the appearance that is given by some of its members.

If they argue his POLICY there is not problem. When they attack him personally there is a problem and Trumps statements show he is racist. I've not heard anybody call all repuplicans racists.

They can't attack his policy however. While a lot of bills were passed in congress (mostly during the lame duck session), his policies are much more of a continuation of previous administrations. So unless Bush was a radical socialist (hmmm medicare Part D, which had bits of socialism, and bits of handout to the pharma companies), then any real focus on his policies are going to result in the reality setting in that Obama is pretty much like all previous presidents of this general era (post WWII).

This in itself is disappointing to me actually. The government does need to be restructured, however assigning all the sacrifices to groups that can't pay for it (poor, elderly etc...) is NOT the way to go.

Find them yourself. Use the Freedom of Information Act. A lot of this information is a matter of public record. For crying out load, use your brains people!!!

The real problem with the media is its contributors. Corporation own the media, as well as most politicians, through their advertisment, etc. Glenn Beck's show (that I don't care for) got cancelled because of lack of advertisement, even though it was Fox's highest rated show. That's nonsense.

His composure was appropriate to the magnitude of the damage done over the years by the liar he was interviewing. He has and will continue to interview guests that he is diametrically opposed to, and will do so respectfully.
