Republicans are playing two very dangerous games of brinkmanship with the vote to raise the debt limit. Msnbc's Lawrence O'Donnell discusses the issue with Dr. Alice Rivlin, a member of President Obama's Fiscal Commission.

Lawrence really acts prissy when he talks about Donald Trump. His insinuations about racism and Trump are just a stretch, and clearly show how much the Democratic Party and Republican Party fear the possibility that Trump could win. I like Pres. Obama, but it looks like his hands are always tied with the Republicans. I never thought I would see the day that Lawrence would put more value on an evil person like Carl Rove, than a "not welcomed in his own party", Donald Trump. Wake up Lawrence, before you're looking for a new job.
I believe Lawrence has really gone to far to suggest that Donald Trump throws himself at the feet of the racists in this country. What ridiculous propaganda Lawrence. At one time in the past, I use to enjoy listening to you, when you didn't present yourself in such a pompous manner. To think I actually heard Lawrence support the thoughts of an evil person like Carl Rove with regards to the Birther question. There's nothing wrong with not trusting folks in the news media about Pres. Obama's birthplace, if it's really there, then just "show us the money", as they say. I like Pres. Obama, but it seems as though his hands are always tied, I don't feel Trump would have this problem. Lawrence just shows how much both parties are afraid of Trump.
Wow you call trump a racist because??? Then you relate it all to Seinfeld pulling out of a charity his son was hosting yet was sill going contribute? You sir are worse than beck and thats comming from a relative conservatve...I came across this comming back from a dinner and have no idea how my TV got on the real news "MSNBC". Racist? Really?
Gee folks, what alse coul dbe the motivation for challenging the citizenship of an American who was born of an American mother and has been certified over and over again by the State of Hawaii as having been born in that state.
I understand you think Trump is a racist. Since you hate republications are you saying anyone who does not vote again for Mr. Obama is a racist also? Sounds like it. I voted for him but have decided not to vote for him again. I must be a racist then. You are spreading hate also-the very thing you claim to despise. Democrat or Republican spin from reporters has become horrible and angry and one sided and filled with alot of bull. You all are making me suck. Maybe I wont vote at all. Keep up the hate talk--Enjoy
I understand you think Mr Trump is a racist. Then I would assume from the way you talk about people anyone who isnt a registered Democrat is also a racist? I voted for him last time I have decided not to vote for him again am I now a racist? You proclaim to despise hate mongers but you partake in it every show. I don't care if your Democrat or Republican you are all spewing hate and bull. I'm over all of you. I think Ill skip the damn vote coming up and you all can kill each other for all I care. Enjoy your version of the truth and all YOUR hate speech.
This is America, two way street, and not a one way.Lawrence O'Donnell is speaking within his means, like Trump, and most GOP's do, evertime they get in front of a microphone.
Lawrence and MSNBC will do well, if they get away from idology and partisan ship. When jouranlist focusses on issue nuetrally and presents all sides of argument without themselves attaching to one or the other side, MSNBC will be able to compte and they will do service to people of America and to America.
There is tremendous hunger for neutrality and discussing a serious issues facing us. Unfortuantely such journalism is hard to find. Solutions comes from politics instead of clear vision and benefit for the people. When solutions are political, they are most of the time less effective and subpar.
Such political tinge spoiled the Healthcare solutions that was needed to be oriented towards reducing cost. Instead it came out to be things that at least does not do one thing: Reduce cost credibly and sufficently.

"To think I actually heard Lawrence support the thoughts of an evil person like Carl Rove with regards to the Birther question."
This is a perfect example of the most common, and one of the most fundamental, of logical fallacies. It's called "ad hominem" -- "to the man."
Boiled down, your argument is that anything that Karl Rove says is wrong. Why? Because I don't like Karl Rove. The message can be ignored because it's irrelevant.
It's the equivalent of what a Tea Party candidate in Florida said before the last election: "If Rachel Maddow is for it, it must be wrong."
donald trump is the biggest Bully I have ever seen. he knowns he is lying about the President's place of birth, but this tactic will give him full attention. Why are the other Republicans so quiet?. They are giving him full reign as they want the American people to believe him just as the polls are showing. Why is he getting so much attention from the journalists?. This is what you call dirty politics. I do not understand why the "blacks" are still involved with his fake show. He is only using them to get ratings. They should walk away and find another source for the funding of their charity. I have to turn off my tv when I see his face appear. he should be thrown in jail for lying about our President's place of birth.
There are doubts about his citizenship and it is shared by republicans, democrats and independents alike. Remember it is a constitutional requirement that you be a natural born citizen to be president. By not releasing his birth certificate only further suspicions. Everyone is saying it's all a crazy conspiracy - well, so is watergate. Candidates should be properly vetted because they are running for the highest office in the land, not some job at a 7-11 store. I think it's just fair and reasonable. If Obama has a birth certificate then he's fully qualified and will put all rumors to rest, if not then it's too bad.
Lou, the doubts about his citizenship are found only in a very select group of the population, and that group includes the majority of Republicans. The belief that he's somehow an alien seems unshakable. See FactCheck.org or any other respectable information source. Or ask the governor of Hawaii. Or check the two Honolulu newspapers that announced his birth. None of this will change the minds of a birther, I'm afraid. If, instead of a "Certificate of Live Birth", something called a "Birth Certificate" were posted on the internet, the believers would demand to see the original, not a copy made up of pixels. And if they held Obama's birth certificate in their hands, they would say it was the most clever forgery they've ever seen.
This belief belongs with the "Truthers" who claim G. W. Bush was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, FDR knowingly allowed Pearl Harbor to happen, and the earth is flat.
I really hope he has one because there are birther bills being proposed around the country and if it becomes law, you know all sides will be fighting over it and for all intensive purposes this issue might probably wind up in the supreme court. And as you know, there, they are gonna open up the books, they gonna sift through all the evidence. But the bottom line is, it's still gonna come down to a long form birth certificate to settle the matter. All I'm saying is, I really hope he has one or the world is gonna turn upside down if he doesn't.
lou, robert, have you not seen the ABC interview (stephenopoulos/bachmann)?
google it.
of course this (non-issue) debate over the president's birth certificate/registration will continue, because they will not believe what they do not want to believe. and we cannot forget that it is serving a purpose. they don't have to talk about anything that is important to the american people (jobs?), as long as they glob onto an emotional topic like this.
Here's a quote from USA Today. I don't know why I'm bothering to post it since it will not change the mind of a single person.
"What the would-be sleuths won’t find is Obama’s “long-form birth certificate,” a confidential one-page document containing his original birth records kept on file in the first floor of the Department of Health.
Those original birth records typically include additional birth details, such as the hospital and delivering doctor, said Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the state’s former health director who twice looked at and publicly confirmed Obama’s original long-form birth records.
But those documents are state government property that can’t be released to anyone, even the president himself, said Joshua Wisch, special assistant to the state attorney general. Obama would be able to inspect his birth records if he visited the Health Department in person, but original records of live birth are never released, he said.
Fukino, who served as the state’s health director until late last year under former Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, said in an interview with The Associated Press she’s convinced the long-form document is authentic. She issued public statements in 2008 and 2009 saying she had seen the original records."
