raise the taxes for anyone making more than $750,000 and it should help. Make the corporations pay, and stop paying the oil companies to sell us oil.
Even if we CONFISCATED, that's right, CONFISCATED 100% of the wages paid to the top 1% of the richest Americans, we would not balance the budget annually.
The real solution is to require all recipents of America's treasury, i.e. "entitlementees" to prove "worthiness", by proving citizenship and hardship.

In such a monstrously disparate wealth and income situation, "the real solution" is to claw back all that the the wealthy and their corporations have PLUNDERED from the poor and working classes over the past 50 years.
A beginning would be the Eisenhower era's tax rates and focus on wealth and unearned income (a TMR in the 90+ percent range, interest, cap gains and inheritance.)
The founding fathers never intended wages to be taxed at all. Jefferson wrote in letters that the rich, who could afford it, were to pay all costs of the government, infrastructure, and the general welfare. Even I (and other progressives) don't go that far - but perhaps we should, given the voraciousness of greed pulling so VERY far in the opposite direction.
Wisconsin and Michigan are a warning of what happens if we alone occupy a position of reason and compromise.
This is NOT a day and age in which to occupy that position against the over-the-cliff looney bin Right, because that's the ONLY "Right" there is. Congressman Weiner is right wit his statement of the "library book/ knife fight" metaphor.

And history shows they were never conceived to be durable entities, only ephemeral, ad hoc, necessary evils; to be watched carefully, stricty regulated, and revoked if they exceeded their charters or their limited duration. To allow corporate motives in the financial realm, for instance, is insanity. And it has permanently destroyed the economy.
What are the facts from any other past Presidents birth certificate being questioned? If not, why is the debate being done over President Obama's coming into question. I believe that the only reason it is is because of his name and possibly because ofhis race. if not which of the past President had to suffer this type of abusive questioning?
If everyone thinks he is doing so good, then why is he trying to destroy Social Security, that rightfuly belongs to the American people not the IRS. They are stealing monies that is deposited into a trust fund ( the working mans 401k) for retirement. As for Obama's birth certificate, try using one like his to get your Social Security Number benefits.
I have always used a birth certificate EXACTLY like his for SS, Military Draft Registration, Voting, etc.
Like a great many Americans, (probably more so than not, considering the time span) mine was destroyed when the small local hospital burned down, long ago.
It has NEVER been a problem. I would bet that many who are perpetuating this absolute insanity are in the same position and don't even know it. Even if it exists, you are not ALLOWED to possess or remove the "original" they talk about. It's a strictly private hospital record, no more valid" or "legal" than the Certificate of Live Birth - which is all ANYONE possesses, for EVERY possible legal use.

Obama is like every other Baby-Boomer to ever live... They have never paid for their wars, social programs, TARP ect ect. Now they send GenXers and Yers all over the world to fight wars that Boomers started then they want to cut the defense budget.

Not sure how to answer because I'm not sure exactly which ship Obama is commandeering from~is it the DNC - ie the REAL Democratic Party base or the oxymoron "The Third Way" C Street Cult BlueDog DINO Chamber of Commerce franchise set up by Bill Clinton? I cannot imagine anyone sitting and watching your commercials, or any commercials that run 5 minutes with a 15 second "break" then 3-5 minutes of commercials again.

Dear Mr. O'Donnell -- I often listen to your show as well as Rachel and Ed. One pet-pieve that I harber is the one where your guests as well as yourselves consistently state that Social Security and Medicare are entitlement programs. The assumption being that it is paid by the tax-payer. As a Federal employee, I pay 1.76% of my gross salary every two weeks for the privilege of becoming a recipient of Medicare when I become 65 years old. I have paid this amount since Carter implemented the manditory deduction from my salary since around 1980. I am not allowed to claim this amount as a tax when I claim income tax. I would like to state that these are not entitlement programs for those who invest (i.e. contribute) to these programs. Now I wonder, if the Republicans are successful in abolishing Social Security and Medicaid, will I get my money back with interest?
Agree with you 100%. Not only "...get my money back with interest..." but, also STOP deducting these contributions from salaries - Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and FICA!
It concerns me that your commentators and you consistently refer to Social Security and Medicare as ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS. Before I became a Federal employee, when I was enlisted in the Air Force and before I paid approximately 7.65% of my salary to Social Security. As a Federal employee since 1980, I pay 1.75% of my salary every two weeks with a promise that I will be eligible for Medicare when I am 65 years old, which is three years away. I cannot claim this amount on my income tax as a paid tax. If the Republicans and blue-dog Democrates are successful in eliminating Social Security and Medicare, will I get my money back with interest?
I am watching your show right now. You stated that Congressman Ryan budget bill lowers taxes to the highest wage earners. That it does as I watch a majority of shows and have read the document. What you did not state is that it takes away the loopholes and deductions and keeps the revenue the same. We are trying to understand all of the components of the problem with spending but by not saying the entire truth you lead us the wrong way. Also the spot you showed on President Obama seemed to say that he got a pell grant for college. Where can I find this information because we are concerned from where he got his money for college. We have a hard time on who to believe these days on the tv news because everyone seems slanted one way or the other. We are educating ourselves in every type of media and reading to find the real truth. Why are shows that are on tv like yours and almost all others just simply telling all the facts. People seem to forget that at this time in the Reagan presidency unemployment was 10% and his approval rating was 43%. The republican experiment of tax cut for the rich and deregulation was not the instant sucess that the present avocates claim. if it was not for the mass defense spending the ecomony would have taken even longer to turn arround. President Obama has taken a far worse resession lowered unemepoyment to under 9%. The undepoyment rate is going down at a rate of .1 per month at that rate unemployment will be close to 7% by election time.
I can't believe that he actually thinks the Republican Club is going to work with him on anything! Am I the only whitey that sees the Good Ole Boys still doing their thing? They will never accept Obama as an equal much less give him the respect he deserves. You often try to stare into the camera with these clueless and one-sided 'passion' that I must say is rather disgusting. What a blunder. Michael Isikoff all but had Donald Trump admitting fraud in interview and he let him off the hook. And other MSNBC talking heads are following suit. Trump was asked if his three bankruptcies constitute business failures. Trump paused for a second and then answered that they weren't failures and that they were successes, asserting that he did well out of the bankruptcies. It was obvious that Trump was admitting that the bankruptcies were intentional and that he had basically just gamed the system--creating great debt for his companies and then hiding behind bankruptcy laws to stiff his creditors and still come out without personal damage. That is fraud boys and girls--not just "business failure". Trump was right there saying it right to Michael Isikoff's face that those "failures" weren't failures and instead of slamming Trump right to the wall with "aren't you gaming the system?" Isikoff merely stuck to his contention about those businesses as failures and moved on. The had this CON MAN right there and blew it.
Trump is conning everyone. MSNBC needs to wake up on this point. This was a terrible failure. Trump's bankruptcies where him "keeping the oil" or "screwing Qaddafi" in the land deal. He's a fraud and a con man and no one is hammering him straight away on this. Wake up.

It's disappointing that Congress seems to be ignoring who gave them jobs - voting for the benefit of party rather than for what's best for the PEOPLE. I think the President needs to be stronger when it comes to the debt solution. If we need to cut spending and boost revenue, then cut the tax loopholes for the rich... loopholes are expenses. For companies like GE to pay NO TAXES, that's criminal.
