Glenn Beck (file)
Monday's Rewrite taking on Glenn Beck and his deplorable remarks toward women and Planned Parenthood seem to have struck a nerve with a lot of people. The comments here on the blog and Facebook, along with your tweets have spoken loud and clear. There's typical right-wing radio rhetoric... and then there's this.
A woman close to me told me when she heard what Beck had said in response to the email Lawrence received that she was "sickened." She went on to say, "It was so hateful towards that poor woman, all women, and the truth. It just made me so angry."
That's beyond understandable.
Our MSNBC colleague, Martin Bashir, also seemed to have a rather visceral reaction to what Beck said. But rather than respond in kind, he relied on his intellect when saying his piece, today. He gave a nice tip of the hat to the work we do here at The Last Word HQ, and I wanted to make sure to respond in kind. Here's the must-see segment from his show this afternoon.

Very well done Mr. Bashir.
Glenn BecKKK is a despicable human being. His Mother should be ashamed of him. That's assuming he has one. Actually, I think a Vulture pooped him out on a rock and the heat of Hell hatched him.
I am still laughing at this image.....well done, Cindy_S.
Thank you, Mr. Bashir. As a young adult my mother was an alcoholic and not very present in my life so I used Planned Parenthood to educate myself on preventing unwanted pregnancies. I raised daughters who are now educated in protecting themselves from STD's and pregnancy. I am forever grateful to Planned Parenthood and all of the women who came before me to empower myself and all of our daughters. Shame on you, Mr. Beck.
Like Martin said: Beck is a "fraud."
Mr. Bashir: your remarks have such an impact, especially since they were delivered with class and dignity....something Mr. Beck wouldn't comprehend.
Thank you Mr. Bashir. Eloquently stated, but probably lost on the classless, clueless, tactless Mr. Beck.
SMACK DOWN!!! Bashir vs Beck
TKO Beck
You prove civility is far stronger than vulgarity.
Your sophistication and the powerful command of the english language,is probably too much for beck's (high school drop out) capability to understand, but to everyone else, that was WELL SAID.
--- and well said by you, calypso-3224388
This man and his ilk are truly vile. Them and their hatred, lies, intolerance, hypocrisy make me sick to my stomach...
Thanks you, Mr. Bashir. Dismissing, disrobing and discarding the fraud Beck as you did was priceless. I truly hope there is a God and that in time, he will cast the worst curse on the heartless Beck.
I wrote this with Lawerance O'Donnell in mind. Unlike Lawrence, it is mean spirited and judgmental, but I still thought he as well as Martin might enjoy it:
That was a great read, Bob.
Agreed. A coherent, articulate and beautifully written piece. Can't think of anyone who could have said it better.
Thank you Mr. Bashir. Thoughtful and eloquent as always. You are a journalist to be respected....thank you MSNBC for putting him on the air.
Beck is typical of so much of the religious right in this country. A bunch of supposedly religious people with a total lack of empathy, compassion, or serious understanding of the interrelationships of groups within society. I can't understand why those who are, actually, religious want to have anything to do with the Republican party.
Like Mr. Bashir stated they're a fraud!!!
Beck prides himself on being a morman and look at how he hates on the world. If Mitt, who is also a morman runs for president will he also hate on the world?
Athough I find it really strange how the morman church was founded I have always thought well of the morman church. But over the last two years they have lost any crediblity since the church of latter day saints 1) funded fighting aginest gay marriage in CA, 2) did not denounse BECK and all his evil rants and 3) BYU treats athletes of color differant than anglos and is now is showing its racist card.
Beck shined his light on the morman church.
In the dictionary, next to the word "imperturbable" is a pen and ink drawing of Martin Bashir. His verbal evisceration of Beck is the equivalent, in Bashir world, of a manic episode. Too cool.
-what a cherry picked definition of 'Christian'... dude went through the Bible, read a nice part, skipped the genocide, skipped the eye gouging & jumping off cliffs suggestions from the Jesus character... the gang rape, the kid killing, demon casting, rape as reward for war, etc. etc. etc.
-It's not that Beck is 'non-Christian'... it's that he has, and promotes, some unethical and some false views.
Planned Parenthood is a fine and useful organization, but it shouldn't be funded by the government. If PP is funded by the government, why aren't ALL fine and useful organizations funded by the government?
Bashir is such an asset to MSNBC and many of us feel that he should have a show in the evening so that a larger audience can listen to his wisdom. A fine journalist - but now also a sublime commentator.
Warmest thanks to Martin Bashir for his comments about Glenn Beck. I admire the courageous way in which Martin Bashir upholds the Christian worldview on which Western civilisation has thrived for centuries. He did it again last night in commenting on the Royal Wedding on BBC TV's Newsnight Programme. Mr Bashir - well done and a huge thank you.
Martin Bashir does not speak the truth. I pledge to NOT watch NBC or affiliates. The truth shall set you free. Just listen to Bashir and then spend equal time listening to the truth. Your heart will know.
Scumbag Marty B. Go back to the U.K. and finish your wish of help it turn into a Sharia law country. Palin has more class in the turds she leaves than you'll ever have. you really are a scumbucket, Obama worshipping, sorry, crybaby POS .
Bashir is a U.K. reject and a MSNBS / NBS standard. He talks about GB and or Sarah Palin like he's the all knowing /caring Oblabla communist useful idiot commander.
This guy Marty is not worth the time or effort to write this so the jokes one me.
According to Bashir on his show today, he seems to consider prayer as "junk science". Really?
What part of the word "Representative" does Martin Bashir not understand? His criticism of the members of the Tea Party in Congress is disgusting. When I vote to elect a representative to Congress, I don't choose one that will walk in stop with Nancy Pelosi or Reid - or even a Republican leader. I choose one that will represent ME.
