Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
NBC News has confirmed Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been tapped to lead the Democratic National Committee.
Wasserman Schultz replaces outgoing DNC Chair Tim Kaine. He announced today he plans to run for the open Senate seat in Virginia.
Wasserman Schultz will be doubling up on duties, as she does not plan to give up her House Seat.
It's not totally unheard of though. Former Sen. Chris Dodd also served as both DNC chair and as a U.S. Senator.

WOW democrats actually did something good. This is one of IF not thee best move democrats could have done. Schultz is going to be an outstanding chair.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is an excellent choice. She is a natural leader in the caucus. Incidentally, Democrats are still the party of civil rights, promoting women and minorities with more frequency and better taste.
thank god. tom kaine was a disaster. look at 2010. gov dean would have been better. he did a great job before but that runt that worked for obama blocked him. i meam rahm the bomb.
Super cool! She's exactly what the DNC needs.
Schultz the mouth of the south (sorry didn't mean to degrade the south) maybe weener will be her secretary.
I gather you prefer Rick Scott who sees himself as the dictator of the South. Or maybe Haley Barbour, who shows us that racism is still alive and well in the South. Or maybe John Franklin, who wants to put women's uterus's under state control.
i can't believe that people who have an interest in politics aren't familiar with players on both sides of the aisle. how about an intelligent discussion instead of the mealy mouthed one liners that are childish, partisan and used because you might not know the facts. i don't know of any democratic woman who would want to have the reputation that palin or bachman does, because they don't have their facts straight, or they mispronounce or think a word is a word when it is not, yet this doesn't stop them from continuing to do the same things over and over, and blame the media for reporting on it. even their own party does not take them seriously, and would not back either of them for a presidential run. unlike hillary who had strong support from her party.
She is a RICH Liberal Jewish New Yorker, do you dumbocrats really think she gives a sh&^& about the common folk?
yes, she does care! Maybe you are just used to the conservative crap about them caring and then vote for tax breaks for the rich. She is a well informed politican and up on the facts. Try listening to her sometime. I'm rich, jewish and liberal and I too, care about the people..especially the new LOWER CLASS that the republicans have formed with all their cuts to programs that the people need. They think that by cutting food and health programs the people won't need them, but they don't really care anyway because their part of the elite and just care about stuffing their pockets with taxpayers dollars.
Fortunately, democrats don't have any females who are as ignorant and uniformed as Michelle Bachmann...and yes, that Jewish, New York Female does care about "the common folk!"
The bulk of money raised by Wasserman Schultz was in the "individual contributions under 250 dollars" category. Yes, Democrats do receive large donations, often from Unions which are essentially channeling individual contributions as well.
I don't think it is fair to characterize Democrats as equally dependent on contributions from wealthy individuals and corporations. Citizens United makes it abundantly clear that there is waaay more corporate and rich guy money out there for Republicans, and us serfs are scraping our couch cushions to try and get a little equity in our laws.
You make a very good point that Michelle Bachmann is also good at raising money. She is possibly better at it than Wasserman Schultz. Which is why she is a congresswomen despite having no interest in writing laws. Some congressman do nothing but make speeches and take votes... and some are spending a lot of time reading and writing legislation.
Our new DNC chair has actually written and co-sponsored many bills concerned solely with providing higher health care and safety standards for us little folk. Her concern for the common folk is a matter of record going back through 20 years of legislation. You may need to update your stereotype book on New York Jews.
I think we can both agree that the money spent on political campaigns is stupid. Look at Las Vegas during Reed vs. Angle: people were ready to take a baseball bat to their TVs they got so tired of hearing political ads. All that money might as well have been poured down the drain. Priorities are skewed when we spend a billion dollars on a campaign and then can't find 450 million in the budget for heating assistance for the elderly or for unemployment insurance.
America has 300 million people. If 100 million gave 100 dollars each, that would 10 billion dollars. So yes, individual contributions still matter a lot. It is interesting and awesome that you use Obama for your example, because he famously raised the bulk of his campaign donations in 2008... that's right: on contributions of less than $250 dollars.
Although I think campaigning should be reformed to be less expensive, I still believe in supporting candidates who will vote for the values and principles I believe in. We can't surrender this arena to the rich, and we don't have to. It still comes down to $5 and $10 dollars here and there, and knocking on doors.
I think on either side of the isle, we should criticize our women politicians for their policies, and not make demeaning personal comments.
I guess you've never seen Debbie in action. She's smart, tough, and very capable.
I find it disgusting when people who know nothing about someone, and don't want to bother to educate themselves about the person, just keep demeaning and bad mouthing them, and showing just how totally ignorant they themselves are by doing so. They leave no doubt they are true followers of their mentors, Palin and Bachmann.
Its interesting how people are quick to insult an intelligent, well-read individual like this lady without knowing anything about her. It just shows how unintelligent, unread and stupid they are.
G.Thomas - "It's all about greed and money for the DNC"
And you, of course...expect intelligent people to think that this is not the case with the RNC?
kurt-3183071 - "These hypocrites talk so much trash about others but cannot stand it when their own are criticized"
Before I criticize anyone I at least take the time to first look up who they are and what their background is. I listen to their speeches and learn what they stand for. I don't just arbitrarily condemn someone without even knowing who they are or just based on their political affiliation.
Tink-You would be one of the very few. Almost the day after Palin became the VP Candidate she came under vicious attack by anyone on the left. I was not the biggest Bush fan in the world but I believe he will go down in history as a good president, that is if you can look through all the hatred he endured.
kurt-3183071 - I have always hated gossip, as it is normally based on bigotry or jealousy, and is always intended to be hurtful. Before I make up my mind about someone I try to look at things from all sides, to find out the facts for myself. Before the Internet is was harder to get information, but, with the Internet, information is at your finger tips, both good and bad. It is up to the reader to decide which is the truth. I don't rush to judgment, as that usually turns out to unwise, and often embarrassing for both sides. I do not care for what Bush did to the country with the decisions he made, but, in an effort to try and be fair, I think many of those decisions were based on misinformation from those he relied on and many of them used him for their own personal agenda. Cheney being the biggest offender. While he is not the only one to be a victim to bad advice, he did nothing to try and improve his advisers.
But, that is my opinion, and not everyone agrees with me, nor do I agree with their opinion. And I normally ignore opinions of those who are obviously too lazy to even try to educate themselves and merely spew rumor, innuendo and opinions of others.
As for Palin, she made her problems, no one put the the hate in her heart, and forbade her to try and educate herself on the job she was running for, and she ignored those who tried to help her. And her lack of even common sense and ability to communicate in a reasonable manner did not win her any accolades even from within her own party. So don't put the blame on everyone else for her troubles and her reputation as she does. She made no effort to try and improve it, and instead constantly played the victim of media abuse. She was, and is, her own worst enemy. That she continues to bad mouth McCain and tries to blame him for their losing the 2008 election makes her even more unpopular, and that is no one's fault but her own.
I realize that you likely don't agree with me, and that is your right. I just exercised mine.
