Nuclear view from the Midwest.
Greenpeace just launched an updated version of its “Nuclear Plant Locator Map.” You just type in your zip code and it lists all the facilities near you and how many people would die, should there be some kind of catastrophic nuclear meltdown. It’s a little morbid to think about, but the feature helps visualize the wide-spread scale of this kind of disaster, like what is happening in Fukushima now.
Just today, Japanese officials found short-lived radioactive contaminants 10,000 times above the normal level in groundwater below its stricken nuclear power plant.
There are currently 104 operating reactors in the continental U.S.

The Republicans are such hypocrits. They can talk about a financial meltdown but yet give an unfunded $750Bil dollar tax cut to the wealthy and super wealthy & an untold amount to their corporate interest in tax breaks. They would prefer to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class, the poor, the teachers, the fire fighters, etc. Please voters wakeup - the Republicans do not have your best interests at heart!
