The glamorous life of a reporter.
Vice President Joe Biden's communications team apologized to a reporter after his staff kept him a broom closet during a recent fundraiser.
A newbie Biden staffer asked journalist Scott Powers to kill time in a “storage” space before the event in Florida on Wednesday, then prevented him from leaving. The cramped area was filled with boxes and shelves.
Powers explained what went down in a blog. He wrote, "I sat to wait, mistakenly thinking it would be only a few minutes. The door wasn’t locked, though every time I opened it and stepped out to see what was going on a staffer told me I couldn’t come out yet. He’d let me know." Powers said he grew "impatient and annoyed."
Biden was on hand to help raise money on behalf of Sen. Bill Nelson. But, the Orlando Sentinel writer arrived to the party before Biden, so this move prevented him from talking to the high-profile guests. A hold room is not an abnormal occurrence for a private event like this. The broom closet — total stretch. Luckily, they slipped the poor guy some food and water for the hour-plus wait.
