After Rep. Michele Bachmann's shocking failure in both U.S. history and geography this weekend, Lawrence would like your help. As he explained in tonight's Rewrite, Bachmann told audiences in New Hampshire that "you're the state where the shot was heard around the world at Lexington and Concord" (as you know, Lexington and Concord are in this neighboring commonwealth). Lawrence wants you to take a crack at answering these questions:
1. How ignorant is Michele Bachmann and how did she get that way?
2. Where does she find her shockingly ignorant staff?
3. What explains the rank ignorance of 52% of the voters in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District?
As Lawrence said, good answers to any of these questions will be used on this show, and of course, you will get full credit.

You are right on !!!! I agree 100%
2 words. Fox news.
I believe it is the underfunded local school districts ... you get what you pay for!!!
In other words... Tim Pawlenty.
All of the above.
How do you Libs feel about all of the obama lies. "most transparent administration" RIGHT! And thank God (or Allah) that he got his bracket picks in while he doesn't have time to answer any questions or address the disaster in Japan or the fact that the middle east is falling apart in front of our eyes. All the while you guys think he's great... Kinda tells me who's ignorant!
I don't think he has reach the level of Bush lies to get into Iraq. 935 documented lies!!!!
@voleman. libs have plenty of beefs with obama. helloooo!!!! but it doesn't change the fact that republicans are destroying the country to make obama look bad. with clueless idiots like bachmann, demint, inhoffe, peter and steve king, the republican governors, well practically all of them, how are we to have any discussions on substantive matters? we can't because the right has been usurped by an unhinged lunatic fringe.
It would be interesting to know what voter turnout in her district was. She may have gotten 52% of less than 50% of the eligible voters. If you don't get out to vote, you can't complain later.
It is one of thr highest voter turn-out districts as is the state of Minnesota. I think close to 70%. I am proud to be from the 6th district!!
One of the more ignorant districts, unfortunately.
You want to stupid and ignorant and who at one time supported cop killers, and was a tax cheat and forgot to pay parking tickets, Keith Ellison!
How dare you imply (o.k., outright state) that her staff is educationally lacking! I am willing to bet that they are just continually laughing hysterically and trying to see how far they can sink Ms. Bachmann. "Hey, get this one, let's have her say ..."
I don't think it's fair to blame the staff right out of the gate. Having worked with lawyers for over 20 years, I know it can be extremely difficult to tell them that they are wrong. They don't like it. Ms. Bachmann appears to be the type of person that does not like to be corrected. Obviously, to her own detriment. I live in Minnesota and know people who live in her district who are wondering how she keeps getting re-elected.
I talked to one who voted for her and she said "The republicans are the political party of the LITTLE GUY"..
I pondered that and came to the conclusion that Bachmann panders to the delusional.
It doesn't say much for her district but it says alot about the power of "Gerrymandering".
that would be; The "little guy" being the one that is 3 inches tall. tom thumb comes to mind.
some other little thing comes to mind --
The following answers all three questions.
The "mistakes" made by Bachmann are not mistakes. They are religious beliefs.
This creates an intellectual void for conservatives regarding some science topics.
Bachmann is a very devoted advocate of religious schools and home schooling, which favors creation science.
The complete explanation of creation science includes a clever explanation of race and history that is amoral and profoundly offensive. These beliefs are why conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck have a tendency to make remarks that sound racist without realizing they sound like they are racist because their judgment is clouded by religion. I have mote to say about this topic in another post.
People that advocate this kind of departure from reality are incapable of comprehending the viewpoint of other people. This can be observed when people change the subject, answer a question that was not asked, and say things that are not true while you are speaking with them.
The real battle is over public education. The first amendment establishes a prohibition that prevents creation science from being taught in schools funded by taxes.
Conservatives have declared war on public education because of the prohibition established by the first amendment.
School vouchers and Wisconsin teacher unions are just two aspects of the effort to prevent children from learning science and to teach children about racism.
I've read most of the posts and Crackhead Awards, above, seems to have done the best job I've seen of explaining how Bachmann and some of the others can be so profoundly ignorant, racist, etc.
Oral Roberts University is more or less a faux operation, teaching religious bigotry, but she did graduate from a real college. As Lawrence said, that's way in excess of the elementary school education needed to know about Lexington and Concord.
I think many of us have known professionals much smarter than she who have major blind spots because of religious bigotry, which is what we're observing.
Who was the dem last person that went up aganist Ms.Bachmann, Tarryal " Larry Pogemiller's coffee girl" Clark, where she running next 8th district and after that and all over until she wins. Tarryal stick to running coffee for the dems.

Please read and understand the sixth district!
All I can say Lawrence is that the progressives are going to be using "Operation Chaos" (thanks Rush Limbaugh) to help her get the Republican nomination for President.
I'm in.
Did she ever pass a state bar exam?
Did she ever pass a state bar exam?
did she pass the bar exam?
There was/ is NO Masters in Law from William and Mary ... You can get a Masters in Business with a JD or in Public Policy or Arts! They all require a JD!
She is pulling someone's leg again!
I don’t know about her passing the bar exam or not, but she went to Oral Roberts Law School. That tells me all I need to know about this woman...
Even Oral Roberts LIED to his flock, and the country about God would strike him down if he didn’t raise a million bucks! She must have learned all she needed to from him.
Oral Roberts not William and Mary
that kinda says it all...
also - it no longer exists...
Did she ever pass a bar..... :)
I'm guessing that is a NO.
Hey Lawrence, ask Pres Obama how many states are in the US--he said 57--
Funny there are 57 muslim countries in the world--wonder if he was really confused.
Please define "Muslim country."
Sorry Dallas, but your pals have already piled on to that bone and refuse to let it go. Move on.
1. Do you think Barry believes or ever believed that there are 57 states?
2. Do you think that Michele believes or ever believed that the "shot heard round the world"---the start of the Revolutionary War---occurred in New Hampshire? Needz answering.
Remember when Palin quit Alaska and joined the tea Party, the IQ of Alaska and the Tea Party went up.
Squirrel!
He was counting 50 states & 7 territories.
I bet you voted for Louie Gomert, didn't you?
57 states? You never heard them at MSN-OBAMA-BC, report that. Maybe Barry Obama should go on smarter than a 5th grader? One of the questions would be, what are the three form of the US government? Barry would say, of course, Barry,Hussin,Obama?
Mnguy:
Ok you can calm down and go back to listening to Marching Songs of the Reich now.
She has 5 kids and 23 foster children that she homeschooled. Can that make up for 52% of her district? They could, quite easily, be the ignorant staff she has. That's the only answer i can come up with.
And I bet your a real genious?
@kurt - Genius*
you're
Kurt:
You're [contraction of you are]
And....how much does she get from the state for each foster child? I mean, c'mon, she's alreadey gettin' state money for her phoney psyhco clinic and she's rippin' us off fer how much more?
She has over a million TAX FREE dollars for those kids...
"Your" calling me a "genious"??? You might want to go back to elementary and learn the difference between "your" and "you're", as well as "to" and "too". I'm certain you get those confused as well. I'm such a "genious" that you made me look like one in one swift click of the mouse! I shall now retire my argument, because you humiliated yourself already.
Thanks for the spelling lesson. While all of you were attending "your" or "you're" Ivy League schools perfecting "your" or "you're"; 1. "Hate thy neighbor" atttudes. 2. Elitest personalities, and most importantly, 3. "Your" or "you're" spelling and gramar abilities, I was serving 27 years in the Marines ensuring you had cheap gas for "your" or "you're" BMW's. So I apologize for the errors, I will make sure to use spell check next time.
Michelle Bachmann is not stupid. She wants to appear stupid so TPartyers will approve of her. Her staff helps her out by inserting various tidbits for the media, which are duly reported, giving her more publicity. Remember all the press Bush got for being stupid? He is the role model for the TParty candidates.
Kurt,
Don't get all butt-hurt now...
If you'RE going to sarcastically call people out for being "geniouses", you can expect to get called out yourself for spelling two out of only seven words wrong (especially since there were only three words that had more than three letters)
"Your" & "you're" is SECOND GRADE ENGLISH.
But hey, maybe that's only in "elitist" grammar schools... What do they teach in "non-elitist" 2nd grade classes, tire re-treading?
Spell-check won't pick that up... it's grammar. It would have caught the "genious" one though.
emcee....whatever bachman may be or may not be ...her children are off limits and do not qualify her to be a congress person...
She is lying about her Masters in Law ..no such thing at William and Mary I would bet my last buck on it! I posted up line what is offered!
Some ONLINE groups offer and LL.M but not WM!
@Don't you people have jobs? You are (you're) absolutely right! I should be embarrased and ashamed. However, in defense of my seemingly very low gramatical abilities, I would have to say I was a product of the Public School system and If I remember correctly that day in second grade when they taught us the very important rules of "your vs you're" my union teacher was at a protest. Hopefully I can get my S%&*t together and one day I may be able to fill out one of those very important TechReps you referenced. I guess John Kerry was right when he said only stupid kids who couldn't spell ended up in Iraq.
Dear Lawrence,
In a word, Gerrymandering. Check out the shape of the MN 6th. It caps the Twin Cities in what we call the "Bible Cap".
Sincerely,
Harold Miller
MN 3rd district resident (where Michelle Bachmann comes to campaign, unfortunately)
Look at the idioits in the 5th Mn cong dist, that elected Keith Ellison.
Lawrence you have it right!!! Ignorance is bliss
Maybe Bachman won her seat becauise she is smarter than her opponent? haha
To ask how stupid are the people who voted for her is quite a question, but maybe you should also ask how stupid is the person who ran against her and still couldn't win? Neither side should be able to claim the monopoly on stupidity.
Roger and Tired,
An excellent comeback! However, like most of Bachmann's remarks, not based in fact. You are obviously not from her district. By any measure of intelligence/smartness, both of the candidates that Bachmann has defeated could, and did, talk/think circles around her. To no avail. I doubt anyone voting for her did so based on her superior intellect.
She won it because the sixth district is filled with fearful people who don't have the gumption to face facts, the intelligence to understand complex issues, or the common sense to find a representative who can discharge the office with a modicum of decency. Instead they (and we) get the vacant stare of a third rate clown that spews out nonsense and is rewarded with undeserved attention by a media empire that thinks everything is entertainment. (And the audience of clueless voyeurs agrees!)
That's how.
All manner of redistricting goes on in every state when there is a repub take over...would imagine this is one more case! Probably a bible belt district!
You mean the Dems coffee lady, Tarryal "Larry Pogemiller's coffee girl' Clack. GO Tarryal jump, sit, walk, talk run in the 8th, running for govenor, run for senate, run in the 6th again, hey tell Tarryal go back to minority in house or senate.
Well Lawrence she pulls it RIGHT OUT HER ASS. We live within 20 miles of her....
Thanks you for your show
Frostbite of the brain.
I agree...I think aliens must have abducted Bachmann and her staff and replaced their brains with CRAP! Wonder if she has any relation to Christine O'Donnell (R-Deleware)? They both seem to have diarrhea of the mouth... Go Fig!
FYI...I think you meant to use "their" rather than "there." How about utilizing spell check firstbefore you share your "AWESOME" (Not) remarks!
That is ALL!
Thanks...?
Ha! Oh Yeah...by the way, I'm a female, so I would actually have an "Old Man" (Or do I?)
Genius!
annnottheman
You still didn't get it right. Your grammar and punctuation are both bad. A spell checker would not correct "there", "they're" and "their". Would not properly punctuate "don't" or put a period at the end of a sentence.
If you're going to throw an insult, can you at least write correctly?
The way you do it makes you a half witt.
Annnottheman:
I dont think you get it bill, its a big NO and im not trying to insult someone and stick the period up your A$$, and if you dont understand that then your a halfwitt
Such a wonderful reply, you should run for Boner's replacement when he retires to a life of golf........Oh he has already. Get in there you CONservative soldier.
Have a check on how often John the Boner gets out for golf before you point the finger at everyone else. Try the wonder of google you like to point too. Even state gov wouldn't employ that crying work shy bum.
what's mearly? Ah a RepubliCON education.
All I have to say is if you are going to spend this much time on this gaffe, you should look into the staff that worked and works for President Obama. Out of the many, many, many gaffes he has made and lies he has spoken, maybe we can start with the one where he thought that there were 57 states are in the United States of America.
Good god, are you right wingers this shallow, predictable and ignorant? See my comment above. Clearly, you people are one trick ponies, ignorantly all going back to the same trough of stupid to get these lame equivalencies. What a bunch of *genioooses* Republicans are.
Pete is drinking the kool aid. Another "progressive" who thinks he's got it all figured out. What a closed minded and objectionable person you are.
Michelle Bachmann's historical errors regarding Concord/Lexington and that the Founders freed the slaves are not mere gaffes--nor excusable on any level. Bachmann herself should not need a staff to know these facts because any half-attentive high school graduate who lives in America and who claims citizenship should know basic American history. This is fundamental to prosperity and freedom. I believe it was Aristotle who wrote that those who do not heed history are doomed to repeat it--which we see again and again throughout history, unfortunately. Americans--especially those who are elected to represent Americans--who do not know where they have come from CANNOT KNOW WHERE THEY ARE GOING--at least not as Americans. They are the blind leading the blind. And this seems to sum up Bachmann's career and followers, as well. Perhaps arrogance in being uninformed drives what seems their willful ignorance.
They're like a dog with a bone.
"many many gaffes and lies lies lies!" Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!
It was pretty clear that Obama did not think there were 57 states. It was an off-the-cuff comment not written by anyone on his staff. And as I remember, the right-wingers DID spend this much time on his gaffe. And you are STILL talking about it. I doubt if three years from now anyone will still be talking about this ignorant comment of Bachmanns. Especially since there are SO MANY ignorant comments by Bachmann. But this statement by Bachmann was not a gaffe. She clearly said what she thought. It was a speech written for this occasion. And probably rehearsed.
At least she is consistent. Consistently S T U P I D !
Where does she find her shockingly ignorant staff?
She finds them at Walmart.
as dumb as her staff are, her campaign staff must have been brilliant - they convinced 52% of the voters to vote for her
Check your facts again, G. Thomas. She may have won an election to something in 2002 & 2004, but she didn't get elected to the US Congress until 2006.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again ... Maybe her constituents are insane rather than ignorant.
Must we all google "Stearns County Syndrome" yet again? I think it is the secret to Michele's success!
And then, they quit.
Hi,
I don't have as much an answer as I do another question. How much money does Michelle Bachmann secure for the people of her district in Minn? Like many a good mystery following the money is one way to find answers. As you have a very smart staff, I imagine they can put this information together very quickly.
Thanks for all your work to draw out the right questions.
Cathy
She's an anti-earmarker and, according to her home state detractors, has brought absolutely nothing to the state.
Did she ever pass a state bar exam?
I think the question you missed is why can't the Democrats in a predominantly Democratic state can't come up with a candidate that can beat Backman.
She represents the affluent...white...northern suburbs of a big liberal city in a small rural state. While MN is a democratic stronghold in most cases, when you get a record amount of out of state, dirty big business money, and you have good looks ( for a republican anyway ) even a deaf dog barks once in a while.
Because Bachman is backed by all that Karl Rove dirty money, and she's probably bought and paid for by the Koch bros too. Seems to be a common trait among the Repugnican'ts.
Because her constituents are ignorant, fundamentalist Christians. They only believe in Jesus and Michele Bachmann.
RE: Because Bachman is backed by all that Karl Rove dirty money, and she's probably bought and paid for by the Koch bros too. Seems to be a common trait among the Repugnican'ts.
Michele Bachmann -- Koch whore. Has a kind of ring to it.
and what's the definition of a woman who sells herself???
The definition of a Koch whore in the dictionary has a picture of Palin and Bachmann standing side by side. Been out helping their fund raisers again annnottheman?
Wow.
You've got quite the mouth there annno...
I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that you don't flap your gums like that to people in real life...
You will not be missed...
Then you're either very old, or you spend a lot of time being beaten up.
Go on you became a RepubliCON when you though Sarah winked at you didn't you.
Sorry dude I wouldn't touch either of them. Some of us like a woman who can think and hold a conversation. The Koch Sisters do not fit that bill.
Lawrence .... Look up Sterns County Syndrome.... it's the only explanation I can come up with and I live in Mn.
Oops...sorry...you beat me to the punch, Mike! The whole country must be made aware of the terrible SCS!
Stearns County Syndrome (not Sterns).
You'll find it in the Urban Dictionary and in Wikipedia under "Lake Wobegon."
In fairness to my fellow Stearns Countians, Bachmann narrowly lost Stearns County to Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg in 2008.
Bachmann's stronghold is Wright, Sherburne, and Anoka counties, with Stearns and Benton counties more evenly divided. Bachmann typically loses in Washington County, where she lives. Anoka, where Bachmann graduated from high school, is the country credited with clinching Jesse Ventura's gubernatorial victory in 1998.
Lawrence, I sincerly hope you were saying this with tongue firmly planted in your cheek......she is, of course ignorant, and the fact that she has a degree is no evidence of any intelligence. Remember, "W" had a degree from Yale and could hardly put a sentence together. And she obviously surrounds herself with an "echo chamber" when picking staff. Heaven forbid that anyone should question her "logic". And lastly, you must know that people mostly vote their "emotions" not from a logical view of the issues. It is truly a sad state of affairs. Some worry that the "debt" will take us down as a country....it's the "masses of asses" that will bury us instead.
I suspect her constituents don't care that she's ignorant. They care only that she spews hate so well. And maybe her staff has that figured out. We attack Bachman for stupidity, her voters spring to her defense and it all works out for her. We already know the far right has no use for facts or accuracy.
Answers:
1. Is the Oral Roberts University Law School even accredited?
2. Minnesota bowling alleys.
3. I think she's drugging people in her disctrict through bad Lutheran coffee.
Dan Fenn, Northfield, MN
Needed a good laugh......very funny..AND..you are probably right on all 3..too funny Dan..thank you.. meanwhile, there is still no reasonable explanation. Dumfounded here.
She IS an ORU grad and she aptly reflects the scholastic and intellectual rigor of her alma mater.
don't know if it was ever accredited....
but it is in fact no longer in business
nuf said!
I was one year away from retirement and my office was shut down, if the people of her district are still working and making so much money send me a check, I need healthcare, not what she call Obamacare.
