Breaking news tops the show in just a few minutes: Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate voted tonight to separate a provision stripping public employees of their collective bargaining rights from Gov. Scott Walker's controversial budget bill. No Democrats were present for the vote. All 14 Senate Democrats have left the state to prevent quorum on the overall budget bill. We'll take you live to Madison to find out what this means for the weeks-long battle between Walker and state workers.

What Walker and his cohorts just did was a surprise to me, a Wisconsinite, but the way they did it wasn't. This abhorrent transgression of the people's rights is already filtering down into county government where county boards and their committees are holding secret, closed door meetings and removing elected officials without disclosing the reason to the public and with no input from the public.
They learn these tactics from our US congressional Democrats. Remember how Obama Care was passed? Also, when you take your ball home and refuse to play, the other team will find a way to win the game. You can't win a battle if you're not fighting!
FAB 14 NEED TO STAY GONE. There is a lot of legislation in this bill that we still need to fight for!!!!!!!!!
Looks like the Republican/Tea Bag Koch suckers are working true to form. Keeping on putting the Con in CONservative.
Mr. Phil, I get your play on words, however in this case Koch is pronounced coke. And you should be ashamed of yourself, trying to put vulgarity in this blog where it has no place. Is that the way your union boss taught you to talk?
I stand corrected it's coke. It's not like the former NYC Major. So I'll correct: The RepubliCON/Tea Bag Koch whores are working true to form. If you want to see vulgarity watch the state CONservatives selling out or the gov sucking up on the false Koch brother call.
Didn't Karl Rove just arrive in Wisconsin today? This smells like a Karl Rove stunt, just like in the Bush years.
It's a trap to get the Senate Dems back in Wisconsin... It's a TRAP!
The Republicans are worried about RECALLS and they want time to be placed in between them and the time it takes to get an actual RECALL accomplished.
IT'S A TRAP!!! As soon as the Dems get back they will smile and put the original bill back into session...
are the 14 dems still at risk of arrest in WI?
Tomorrow,a ll the GOP has to do is substitute the original bill for the illegal one because the Dems will be back and they will have a quorum. it is a trick to make them come back.
Anyone play "chess"? The Republicans are trying to "checkmate" the Dems... They need to stay out of WI
I think this may be a trap. It wouldn't surprise me if the Republicans are very aware of the illegality of this slight of hand and that they know that it will be overturned...and they perhaps planned this solely for the purpose of having the Dems return. So when the procedure is overturned the Dems will be back in town and therefore available to have a vote on what they had sought to avoid.
Robert Reich should shut the hell up. He and Clinton helped create this war on the middle-class by shoving NAFTA down our throats. One cannot continue to send millions of US middle-class jobs to Mexico and China and still have enough people to pay the salaries of our public service workers.
Who is still sending those jobs overseas, it certainly not the Democracts. open your eyes and STOP VOTING AGANIST YOUR BEST INTEREST. Republican are not for you or anyone like you.
It blows my mind to hear Dems talk about rule breaking and shady politics in passing legislation. The Wisconsin Governor learned some good hardball tactics from The US Congressional Dems as well as the Wisconsin Senate Dems. It's amazing how the left can excuse any tactic by the Dems, but when it's the Republicans who try similar tactics it's unfair. What goes around comes around!
When you lose your job because of the act of some narrow minded people that don't care about you then we will see how you feel.
There really is two sides to this argument, but on The Last Word program all we get is a parade of Democratic leaders and Union bosses and Democratic strategist, and of course, the host. The Big Business that the Republicans are fighting for are the local school districts and the municipalities and the working tax payers who are not a member of the public unions. Please stop hyperventilating. Virtually all of the vitriol has come from the Left.
O'Donnell admits he is biased and doesn't intend to look at any opinion that disagrees with his. He feels he knows all truth and therefore there is no need to discuss anything else. If he ever allows a guest with an opposite view on he tries to humiliate them by belittling and mocking them and making sure his other guests join in. No wonder Fox News beats MSNBC so bad in the ratings!
Lawrence has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to Wis for example , every knew what the walker e-mails were about but not Lawrence
He should stick to what he clearly care about charlie sheen and other mindless BS
He simply does not understand progressive poltics .
What the Republicans are doing in Wisconsin is a trick to get the absent Senetors back in the State then will vote to reconsider their vote and vote on the orginal bill. they will get them in the chamber then lock the doors while they vote. If I was the Democracts I would wait until the Gover signs the bill before I return.
O'Donnell is now carrying on a stimulating conversation with one of his valued politically aligned leftists: Kathy Griffin. The authorities he looks to for political agreement are people like Kathy, Bill Maher, Jon
Maybe now we can stop hearing about stealing workers rights. What about the 90% of American workers who don't have the same rights? I am sure alot of us would love to collectivly bargain. Oh, and I live in Wisconsin and there is alot more on the agenda then this. It is time for elected officials to do their jobs!
I would tend to be more sympathetic to the 14 dems if it were not for the fact that most union dues monies go to electing liberal dems, of which I'm not one, so let the repubs continue on!
I almost forgot, in collective bargaining, who gets to collect, and who gets the bargain?
WONDERFUL! The crooked unions got just what they deserved!
It seems that too many people look at the unions as being able to spend untold dollars. The one thing that Unions do that Rebublicans do not; that is they tell who an were their money goes, you can not say that about the Republican supporters who give much more than the unions in elections.
If this continues it's going to be like back in the 80's when people ended up dead. The union members are just as passionate about their rights as the Republicans are about taking their rights away and all it will take is one of them to do the same thing Laughner did in Arizona. I pray to God this does not happen but at this point I would not be surprised if someone gets taken out by some union member. There is a reason the Republican senators were all escorted out by police tonight and that is because they know there is that potential. The peaceful protest we have seen thus far is now over. And I have a feeling violence is next.
I surely hope you are wrong.
well I do not agree with what is going on in Wisconsin but I can tell you that people are getting what they voted for from the Republicans. Maybe next time they (the people) will make the time to go vote even if the Republicans bring there guns again next time. Do not let the Replubicans scare tactics (GUN TALK) stop you from going out to the poles and making your vote count. The conservertives talk about the constitution but I will guarantee you there is no mention of coporations in the constitution anywhere. Corporations will not hire no matter what their tax rates are and how can the people of the United States win a war where all the business (china) are ran by the government. Is it time for the United States to open companies and business to compete with corporations here because that is the only way corporations are going to hire here in the United States is if they are forced through unfair tactics that they are using for profit in china and they are as no better then the chinese working they are taking advantage of for their huge paychecks and bonuses. There is only some much mone in any economy and the wealthy can not support the US economy without the middle class so we can all go down on the same ship of fools.
What with all the "Name-#######" troll commenters on here?
well at least we used are names and not a user name and MSNBC will not post the last names. So who is the real TROLL the governor of Wisc dont yeah think.
All of this protesting could've been avoided if the dems would've stayed on the job, and not "took thier ball and gone home" like a bunch of spoiled kids. But wait and see, the news media will spin all of this to make it seem as if the repubs are to blame for everything that has happened in Wi., when we all know it is the dems that left work, and not done the job they were elected to do. Whine, whine.....
Where does it say in the rules of democracy that the duly elected majority must bow to the will of the minority in the State Legislature or State Senate? The Wisconsin GOP won the majority in the latest elections. This is just another case of the elitist Democrat left crying because they were voted out of office, and now can't get their way under the rules of the game, and their playground tactics were just exposed for what they are. Childish and worthy of ridicule. So, now that you are in the minority, please show some respect for yourselves and the system, and get used to it, because in a democracy, the majority rules. When you have a majority, if you ever get one again after your recent display of reticence, feel free to then willfully abuse the minority, if it will make you feel better about yourselves, and help justify your existence.
