Demonstrators inside the State Capitol in Madison (aka “slobs” if you’re Republican State Sen. Glenn Grothman) performed a rousing rendition of the musical "Les Miserables." Protesters channeled their inner Jean Valjean on Sunday in response to Governor Scott Walker's perceived attempts to undermine union rights, drawing parallels to the oppressed working class and revolutionary spirit of the musical. According to the YouTube post, it took about 24 hours to organize the little show, and it included a wide array of horn and string instruments, singers, as well as a conductor.

Very moving ... but we know what happened to the fine young men on the barricade...
Yep. Slobs and hippies. Sure.

It must have slipped their minds that the "slobs" are paying their salaries.
...but cultured slobs, nonetheless.
Fantastic! Thank you for your inspiration!
Do you hear the people sing
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes
Will you join in our crusade
Who will be strong and stand with me
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free
Sen. Grothman is definitely an anti-union republican who, hopefully, will not be voted back into his senate seat !!
He'd refer to me, just once, as a slob and I beat this punk's ass: WHAT AN ARROGANT JERK !!!
WHO VOTES FOR THESE @!$%#S!!!
That Senator should be recalled. To call the protesters "slobs" is unacceptable. He is showing the Republican "i'm better than you" attitude. They need to get the signatures to recall Walker. And to say its a different "breed" of people. Really. You need to go. I stand with you brothers and sisters. Keep the fight going!
Anyone see the Last Word interview?
He treated protesters with incredible contempt. To their faces!
He thinks they're 'lovable, but slobs.'
Not since 'Let them eat cake' has there been such a public urination on the working people.
When did we begin referring to working people fighting to have a voice -- in the throng of big-money clammer -- as "slobs"? Must have missed something. I think I'm glad I did.
Go show Wisconsin.... stand strong! You've go the right anthem!!!! Good Luck!
I was mortified by the story tonight on the Last Word. I am a very progressive liberal and a faithful viewer of MSNBC, but bringing on 4 protesters, and challenging the Republic leader, only made him look reasonable. The self-satisfied look on his face told the story. He knew that Lawrence O'Donnell had nothing of any substance to add to the debate. I have a Ph.D. in Sociology, and I know that 4 selected individuals mean nothing in terms of the overall argument, and my guess is that even without my training, the segment will seem irrelevant to viewers. Please, get serious about the news.
That's not a real dissertation/second language/ defense Ph.D. Those are only given out in the Humanities. Yours is a Doctorate in Sociology. You designed and reported on a survey.
The Senator smirked and cock-a-hooped in front of the relatives of the people who elected him.
He condescended worse than Qaddafi. He was patronizing and smug.
You'll see the footage when he attempts to run for office again - if he isn't recalled.
You may wish to go back and discuss your school's credentials with them.
Is this the newest trick? Pretend you're an intellectual?
Nolagrrl, though I agree with you that Cecile's contention appears limited and unsupported, I don't think we improve the discourse at all by being demeaning. In our society, substance doesn't matter but video does...I think Cecile needs to take another look at the Grothman segment.
Sen. Grothman is an arrogant, elitist piggish jerk. I could get more graphic but am too polite. Which is more than I can say for someone who prefers to belittle people of the working, middle class who are expressing the Constitution given right to protest the railroading of American workers than to humble himself to apologize. What a buffoon. You go, Wisconsin!
I was surprised to hear Sen Grothman of Wisconsin says that JimmyCarter took away collective bargaining rights from Federal employees. That's strange, I worked in Human Resources in the Federal govt for 30 years - most of the what I did was subject to negotitiations with unions. In fact collective bargaining was put into law with the Civil Service Reform Act of 1984, after collective bargaining was given to employees in 1961 by Executive Order by John Kennedy. Has anyone told the AFGE/AFL-CIO about this? Did I miss something?
I've heard several Republican references to the fact that the taxpayers can't afford to keep paying for the healthcare and pensions of the working "slobs." I wonder who pays for their healthcare and pension program. And how long do they have to work to receive this pension which apparently all comes from their own pockets.
