While the rest of Capital Hill finalizes their SOTU dates, Michelle Obama already has her plans set. The first lady invited a few directly associated with the deadly Tucson shooting to sit next to her as honored guests.
College student Daniel Hernandez, the intern for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, will be in the box with the first lady. Right after shots were fired in the Tucson massacre, Hernandez rushed to the wounded Congresswoman’s side. He is alrgely credited for saving her life, earning him the nickname "hero intern." This isn't his first time hanging with the Obamas; Hernandez met them both as a speaker at the Tucson memorial event
The first lady extended an invite to Dr. Peter Rhee, Chief of Trauma at the University Medical Center in Tucson. Dr. Rhee oversaw the medical care of all the victims. Parents of the late Christina Taylor, the nine-year-old girl killed in the shooting, will also be on hand.
