Lawrence O'Donnell is a total stud! Keep up the awesome work!
Dear Lawrence,
We took a poll, and the majority of Americans do not care about Malawi. SO, just forget about it. Sorry! We have to compromise.
rocketman07,
Who cares about the majority of the people you know ? This morning there was an $18,000 donation.
thank you O'donnell that is a good cause will make a donation
"Just maybe." Action into community. Energy transfers continually.
Best dang thing I've seen all week.
Please Put up the Malawi school kids email address for contributions and leave it up so we can all write and down and contribute!!!
I just watch your special message about Malawi, and I make this promise. I will do everything within my power to donate money to buy desk for the students in the Malawi schools.
Thank You for sharing that special message tonight. You have no idea how many hearts you have touched tonight. Again I say Thank You, and I look forward to donating.
MR. O'Donnell
I just finished watching your special message on the children in need of desks. It almost brought me to tears. I wish there were more broadcasters of your kind saying the things that really matter to all of us as humans. Instead we have those who would belittle you for your kindness and true thought. I'm sorry that we are not in the position to help, but I just wanted to tell you that I am so proud of people like you who will say what you feel no matter what the others will say about you.
Thank you
Lee Belsan
Sorry Lawrence, We took a poll, and a majority of the American people do not care about Malawi. SO, just forget about it. We checked-- and we just don't have the votes for it!!
I am proud to be in the minority, if that is what it takes to be compassionate. and to have people like Lawrence, Keith, and Rachael who care and take action.... Rock on Lawrence
lawrence,
i saw your show about malawi. i have traveled most of africa, including ghana, south africa, zambia, and the drc. i have experienced the same situations and have worked with orphanages in several of these countries. i can say many of these same conditions exist in much of africa and i applaud your efforts.
while i may disagree with you on many political issues, i would proudly stand with you on your efforts to help the people of africa. there are many things we cannot do for africa, but helping to provide an education is one that we can. thank you.
Mr. O'Donnells report was beautiful and I found his passion moving. This is the man that Rush Limbaugh said, "Epidomized the ugliness of liberalism"????? What is wrong with that man? I'm living on a fixed income and have exhausted my Christmas budget; but come January 2011, I'll be purchasing a row of desk. Mr. O'Donnell was right about the economy having an adverse affect on charity, but for those of you who have knocked a dozen ProV1's in the water during one round of golf.....join us and buy a couple of desk? Thank you Lawrence for MY Christmas present this year....A television program about something more important than the constant rants about how important it is that the Paris Hilton's of the country never have to pay any taxes!
Lawrence,
You are absolutely one of the best journalists in the business! That was an excellent story to choose and it was so well done!!
I commend you for your since of empathy. It truly did make me cry! And yes, I am making a donation right now! Keep up the good work. We need so many more like you!!
Glenda Suber PhD
x2 Thanks for this wonderful gift
Awesome cause...no pretense, no fanfare no pounding the story home..extremely moving and effective..and no Sarah pretending...sorry Greta
Thank you for this Lawrence. I was a product of a slightly worse primary school environment in Nigeria. I am doing a Masters program at NYU at the moment. I cried as I watched because it was as though my life was being replayed. Thank you, again; and may God bless you.
If anyone's interested in learning more about the place: There's a very good film about Malawian music and culture, made by a Malawian/American musician named Kenny Gilmore:

living on ss and a small pension. but i still have $100.00 to bye two desk unite for the kids in Malawi. i don't like to donate if i don't know were its going. thanks for showing me where.
Dear Mr. O Donnell,
Thank you for your report. I have a son serving a mission in Malawi right now. He loves the country and the people. Coming from a home where he has had the benefits of this country, he has really realized all he has taken for granted. Now as a 20 year old he is making a difference, in Malawi. You and I are about as far apart politically as one could get, but on this we are the same. I will do all I can for this important cause, and will bring this to the attention of our world wide church to gets its support and funding. Thank you, we will help the children of Malawi!
Lawrence: Fascinating story but I as I watched I was thinking those desks were probably stolen for firewood before you made it back to the airport. Was any security provided for the desks? If not, they're history desks by now , ,
Today's Malawi temperature: lows = mid to upper 60s; high = mid 80s
For cooking? Doubt most have saws.
I prefer positive energy. Happy holidays to all.
OK then, how about for chicken coops, goat pens or boogie boards. . I'll be watching for a follow-up story to prove me wrong . . Happy holidays 2U2!
Mr. O'Donnell,
Excellent documentary about the children in Malawi. The words of JFK: "Is not what your country can do for you, is what you can do for your country", can be applied to what can we do for those in need. My wife and I enjoy your program. As someone that came to this country with an open mind, I feel that yours is the type of journalism that will bring this country from the bring of division. Please keep up with the good work. MSNBC is an example of what news should be. Thank and Happy Holiday. We'll keep watching you in the next year.
Lawrence,
A worthy cause for children in Malawi. I am a 58 years old and disabled after 6 back surgeries. I couldn't imagine sitting on the floor with a good back. This initiative touched my heart and I thought that if they can't read or write, they can't learn about God and this will definitely help provide them with tools to learn.
If we look back at our nations history at "Old Deluder Satan Law", established our first schools that would teach kids to read and write, that they might learn the scriptures.
Thanks Lawrence
I am a homeschooling mom. Today is the last day of school before our break, and the first thing I did this morning with my children was watch this clip and discuss what we saw. What an incredible way to lead into Christmas, especially when "times are tight" here in America. Tight compared to what? I don't want my children to grow up taking everything for granted, so thank you for this tool- direct, stark, but not overwhelming or frightening.
And P.S., I have one critique. Your dramatic pauses are a bit distracting. They occur too frequently and last a hair too long. Just had to pass this on. Sorry!
ATTN: MSNBC, Laurence and fans:
For whatever it is worth or good it will do, I launched the official/unofficial Facebook K.I.N.D - Kids In Need of Desks Community Page this morning. Due to my former background in design I also created a logo tied into the banner at Last Word.
If you have a Facebook profile or page, feel free to pass the info along. Whether it gets comments or not, the point is to get the word out. But it would also be nice to see interest through participation at the page, if but through a "Hey".
The other reason I am posting this here is for transparency:
This is not some scam or underhanded move on my part. I did some volunteer for UNICEF in Los Angeles years ago and am a fan of Laurence, Keith and Rachel too.
I have also left a link to my personal Facebook page on the FB K.I.N.D. page in case MSNBC or other legal entities wish to verify that I am who I say I am.
If no link show up here below due to page code, simply got to Facebook and start typing in "K.I.N.D" and it should show up.

P.S.: Due some minor but irritating flame comments at said Facebook page for K.I.N.D. (why people would flame something like this project defies decency IMO), I removed the link to my own FB page mentioned in the posting above.
But if MSNBC needs to verify who I am, my real name has already been provided here.
Mr. O'Donnell, HELP! I want to send "desks" to my relatives for the holidays but there is no option on the donation page for a hard copy card with photos and background information, that will cause the recipients to pull out their checkbooks. All I can do is supply their e-mail address (and no one likes that) for an e-card. I have called in twice about the problem and am told they can send a generic UNICEF card and write in that it is for the desk project in Africa, but that doesn't tell the story, does it? Can you influence UNICEF to make this option on the donation page?
Hello,
I'm not sure if anyone reads these things, but just in case, here goes. Mr. O'donnell, I not complaining here, I just want to say I'm sorry that I can't send any $ to those kids and it breaks my heart. This is not a good year for me and mine (being a'99er'). No, this year I can't even afford to mail thoses Hallmark "Night Before Christmas" books to my daughters for my grandkids to hear my (grandpa) voice, maybe next year. I'm looking for work, hell I even went back to school at 57, even made and stayed on the Dean's list, graduated, and now I spend about 6 hours a day having people tell me I suck, but good luck. I'm keeping the Faith that something will break, but as I'm bout to lose my apt. it gets sort-of defeating. Anywho, thanks for doing what you do and maybe when I get a job I'll be able to send ya so $ for those kids who are just trying to have a place to sit. Thanks again. Peace.
I admire your courage, spirit, and actions. The rising costs, "unexpecteds", and job losses of the last two years have caught up to many. And as you, many regret no longer being able to help others, let alone themselves.
If I happen to see you out there, may continued faith in humanity be enough to light the fires that shall keep our hearts warm.
My best hopes for you and us all this season.
I was very touched by your segment last night on your "Last Word" show dealing with your trip to Malawi and the K.I.N.D. program. I immediately went to my computer and donated. Now I have finally found the ideal way to give Christmas gifts to my colleagues at work.
Can you please attach that same segment (in its entirety) on your MSNBC web page, or tell me how to access it, if you have already done so. All the clips that I have seen on the K.I.N.D. web site are interesting, but you gave the story personal life, and I'd like to share that same segment with those in who's names I am donating more desks.
Thank you very much for your elegant treatment of this subject.

Greetings, I was moved to tears watching your message. I am a widow with three children and live as many do just getting by. I am always trying to show my children how lucky we really are, even if at times it does not feel that way. I brought them in and invited them to watch it with me. Just as I was brought to tears so were they. It was a moving and informative message. My children and I spoke after viewing and the wisdom they have about life is so pure. They asked me to please not buy anymore gifts for them instead buy desks for the children in need. This was painful and inspiring to see. They dont realise that there was no more gift to be bought because the money is gone, but to give up the Christmas dreams they have is so selfless. It gave me hope that in their future they will grow to be great people who care for others instead of "things". I wish I could buy a classroom, but I cant. We all agreed that the jar of pennies we had been saving for a trip to disneyland would be better spent on desks. I hope knowing how you have touched my childrens heart, warms yours. I thank you for everything you do and stand for. I also thank MSNBC for always making us "move forward". You and all thoses children will be in our hearts this Christmas and through the new year. Thank You.
